  1. Campho-phenique works pretty good on chigger bites, but when I was little, my mom put Lysol disenfectant (liquid in a brown bottle) on them. Either one of those usually took care of them.
  2. We can't wait to see your display..so far, we've only seen it on You Tube. We'll come look for you, hopefully we'll get to be in the 900 loop again (maybe 912 if KampfireKim isn't there).
  3. If Florida is anything like Texas (and I think it is, only more so) then you need to make reservations somewhere for the winter. We've had friends who went to Florida during the winter months, without a reservation, and they could not find a place to stay. I don't want to be a downer, but staying in Florida during the winter is like trying to get reservations at Fort Wilderness during any major holiday. Florida residents, please correct me if I'm wrong.
  4. Thanks for the info. I was afraid it was going to be dark...since we're dining without kids and can't see the animals, would Jiko be a better choice?
  5. I've booked a dinner at Sanaa on November 29 at 7:10. My question is...at that time of the year will it be too dark to see the animals at dinner time?
  6. I read a post in one of my other camping forums to use bars of Irish Spring soap(its supposed to repel them like moth balls). I put them in all the storage bays under our motorhome...it now smells great under there!! However, we had a rat..not a mouse.. within a month of buying our motorhome.( This was pre Irish Spring Soap) I went to war with that rat ..and..I did kill it, but I think the TomKat rat bait is what killed it. Haven't seen signs of anymore since then, but I got in trouble at the storage facility where we keep our motorhome for using poison.
  7. I forgot about the bath towel (hooded type)...it actually turned out good also...so I guess I"m batting 3 for 3.
  8. I haven't been doing much embroidery for about a year now ( taking care of elderly parents) and now I'm trying to turn out several baby gifts. Unfortunately, everything I touch seems to turn to sh*t. :-\ I have now messed up a diaper bag and two blankets. I'm in a hurry and making mistakes I haven't made for years. This baby is fixing to get a diaper bag with a mistake on the outside, two burp pads which turned out GREAT!!!(what a surprise) and two blankets with nothing on them. Some days, nothing seems to go right...
  9. We have a similar snake in Texas (could be the same kind) called a Blue Indigo. They were imported to kill rattlesnakes. The first one we saw was about 8 feet long and looked like black patent leather. Luckily we didn't kill it,(it got away before we came back with a gun) because we found out later that it was on the endangered list and a good snake to have around.
  10. Why did you take all those pictures of my family :rofl2: And whats wrong with bell bottoms and Jimi Hendrix...those are some of my best memories of my teen years! :rofl2: (I'm still laughing)No mushrooms though.
  11. I hadn't been on the boards for about 2 months and when I logged in, everyone was GONE!!!! It took me a while searching before I finally thought to google Fort Fiends...and there you were
  12. Our Tractor Supply has alot of the plastic pink flamingos, but I didn't check the price. Although, I'm pretty sure there not a dollar each.
  13. I never even thought to add more to the top. I just put my one little layer...which didn't work. I've got a couple of more blankets to do, so I'm going to try 3 layers on the next one. Thanks for the help. I always get so many good ideas from my embroidery group and this forum.
  14. Good advice...I'll keep you posted. I got behind in making my baby gifts, so, I got in a hurry and didn't pay attention to the nap and pile in the blankets I ordered. The pile was deeper and even using toppers, etc. my embroidery just sank down. I should have used a fatter font instead of just a pretty one. Oh well, live and learn, if I can salvage it...great..but if I can't, I still have a second blanket. The other baby isn't due until September so I still have time to order more blankets. I have the most fun making baby things, I don't know what I'm going to do when I don't have any more bab
  15. Thanks for posting your pictures, they're great! I love seeing real pictures of campgrounds, especially if I'm planning on staying there. I've picked some really bad campgrounds in the past based on staged pictures and ratings. What RV park did you stay at in Vicksburg? Your pictures are great because you've already been on all the trips we're planning. What time of the year did you go to the Grand Canyon? The park didn't look full and I've had trouble getting reservations there in the past. And what did you think of the Rafter J Bar Ranch? I had that one picked for when we go to South Dakota.
  16. I have a Singer Futura and I bought the extra software but it's Futura specific. The digitizing package is called Autopunch and it will digitize clip art or anything I can draw or trace. But again, its not as fancy or in depth as some of the commercial programs. Up until now, I have been happy with everything its turned out...it might do more, but I"m not familiar enough with the terminology used in the program. I pretty much just point and click. Have you ever used any of the applique fonts from Five Star Fonts? I'm wondering if I should go that way for my first encounter with applique. Hopef
  17. I don't think my machine has any built in applique stitches other than all the zigzag and decorative stitches. Is that what you use? I haven't tried digitizing outlines...is that what you do? I'm dipping my feet into unknown territory for me.
  18. Has anyone done applique (letters) with their embroidery machine? I'm trying to salvage a baby blanket I messed up and I think I could cover the mistake with an applique letter. The only problem, I've never done applique before. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  19. Thanks Everyone. That answered my question...I think I'll just let all my relatives fend for themselves.
  20. If we wanted to stay at the Fort for 4 to 6 weeks in the summer, will they cut you a little break on the daily rate? Just wonderin!
  21. Great TT! I know you and your family are going to make alot of great memories. :wiz:
  22. Thats the beauty of a pop up. Although this was our assigned site, we were able to turn our pop up by hand to take advantage of everything that site had to offer. I think they filled that area with cabins now. So Sad.
  23. Great trip report, I'm looking forward to more. I have to confess to liking the McGriddle - do they still make it? Are you going to the fort the first week of Decemeber??? Just wondering if I might have a shot at getting site 912
  24. I'll start checking into them. Our coastline is not heavily developed like Florida so don't expect alot of traffic or as many camping options. You can camp on the beach here, but it is always pretty windy and there won't be any shade. There would also be random people walking by your camper also. I know on our end of the island there are several nice campgrounds (paved, pools, etc.) with boardwalks over the dunes to the beach . I'll check to see what is available in South Padre. One thing you would want to be careful of in South Padre is where exactly the campground is located. There are 100's
  25. Well, we all had BIG hair, BIG glasses, matching shirts and socks and the whole Flash Dance shirt look. But, on the plus side, I didn't have any wrinkles :rofl2: This post has been promoted to an article
