  1. This idea is firmly in "zany idea"-land, but it's gaining some traction. My wife and I bought into DVC so that when we end up out west this year, we are thinking of flying to Hawaii to Aulani for a week's vacation (figuring costs would be cheaper flying from the west coast vs. anywhere else). But, I got thinking- if we already flew to Hawaii and are nomadic anyway, why not spend a month living/working from there. I think I should be able to find a passable yet inexpensive VRBO/furnished home rental for a month (that comes close to matching my current RV site budget of $1,500/month). Aulani
  2. Horrendous. We faired OK with our Thermacell, 2 citronella candles, and a fan running, but they're bad. Don't walk outside of the chemical fog from the first 2.

  4. Yep, Amazon. I did reading to learn about kelvin/color temperature and chips vs. lumen. I ended up with lights that were a touch whiter than the incandescents and a fair amount of brighter or equally bright (I bought 2 different brightnesses).
  5. I actually liked it and could see myself staying- but my type of RVing is often different than what other folks are looking for. If I was staying longer, I didn't like how close to the highway it was. And, the lack of pool and decent playground were real negatives for me. But, the staff was very friendly and the spots themselves were spacious. There's just not much to it and I could see how you were unimpressed.
  6. I ended up not asking for a back to back spot and put this request in via Jason: "We also need to put in a request. The (friends) want to be on loop 400. So we need our request to be side by side sites on 400 that will fit two 40' fifth wheels with slides on both sides. If we can't get onto 400, I'd prefer to try out one of the secret "buddy" sites. Loops 600, 700, 800 would be nice for proximity to the marina." We are on the 1300 loop. Fortunately, I'm easy when it comes to sites AND it was super easy to park. But Disney really missed the mark with the request. I assume they had a reaso
  7. We have a 42' fifth wheel and have been in Premium sites 3x now. Hasn't been terrible and, in fact, this trip was downright the easiest parking job I've ever had. This site is hugely long. I can park my truck inline with the camper, unhitched, still have room to open the tailgate, and I'm still out of the road. Site #1326.
  8. We usually stop at Pecan Park off of I-95 in Jacksonville, but it was all booked up yesterday. We headed a little further down the road to Stagecoach RV. It's $42/night for a 50amp/water/electric/sewer site. It's a long pull thru (60') and pretty level. We ended up on an end spot and have a great yard. The bad- there's no playground or pool (usually not a problem for overnights, but we're here for 2 nights).
  9. If that's the sit-down restaurant in Animal Kingdom, they do. We just used it back in August. After being seated, the manager came around and apologized for the 20 minute wait.
  10. Same. I hate the MagicBands. I carry a card. As far as I can tell/matters to me- the only thing it doesn't do is automatically link my ride photos.
  11. Once you have a Rewards Card in hand, I think most concierge desks can reload it for you. (Though, my wife handles this aspect of it.)
  12. Couldn't it be up front, waiting for the bus?
  13. Good times! I'm looking forward to this report- going west is our plan for spring and I can't wait to get back!
  14. We checked into the Contemporary last week on Wednesday and the room had a bottle of bug spray in the one closet. The housekeeping carts had extra cans. The parks still have the stands up as of yesterday.
  15. No worries. Side track away- it sounds like there are options. :) Now Jason has to make it magic!
  16. Good stuff all around. TCD, you always amaze me with having so many pictures handy!
  17. We are coming down to the Fort with another fulltime family in October. We have camped together a few times and prefer sites where we can park so that our doors face each other vs. the usual "neighboring" sites. I know the Fort doesn't have any back-in/pull-in buddy sites where your doors face each other. And frankly, we use our truck often enough that I wouldn't want to pull in and have it trapped (plus, I don't like my sewer being in the shared yard). What we did in NJ was that we got 2 sites that backed up to each other and then we just utilized the space between the rear of the campe
  18. We will decide when we have about 1 hour more of driving and my wife will look around 60 miles from where we are. My preference is to use Walmarts for overnights. My wife will call ahead and ask if overnight parking is allowed. The answer is either a clear cut "yes" or "no" or a more vague, "we don't allow it but no one hassles you" or "well no, but if you have to stop, then you have to stop". If it's no or vague, we keep looking. If it's a yes, we'll ask if there is a part of the parking lot that they prefer us to be in. Don't feel weird about the questions- you're not the first to ask; the
  19. Speaking of Casper mattresses. I don't know if they were one of the 3 or 4 that the Technomads (bloggers) have tried for the 90-100 day trials. Each company lives up to its word about taking them back and refunding their money.
  20. For bdm, we upgraded to a Sleep Number bed in the camper and couldn't be happier with it. It comes in a variety of RV sizes. The only real hassle was getting it shipped turned into a comedy of errors. But maybe they're better at that by now.
  21. For the sofa bed, we have an air mattress and then on top of that we put a mattress topper on it. Between uses, we suck the air out of it with one of those vacuum bags. It compresses down quite nicely.
  22. The reporter contacted a friend of mine (founder of Fulltime Families). My friend knew I launched from near Baltimore and put us in contact. We launched from Columbia, MD- which is about a 1/2-hour from Baltimore. I mean, I always knew I was famous... :)
  23. My family was 1 of 3 families who were written about in a Baltimore, MD newspaper article for this week's paper about "Families ditch traditional homes, make road trips a way of life": Families ditch traditional homes, make road trips a way of life - Baltimore Sun
