  1. That other sites FB page had a link to an article at escapehere.com about the 10 best campgrounds in the US The Fort was # 1. I looked thru it for others nearby and they listed Camp Gulf in Destin FL. They have beach front sites and then others further back including cabins. On a whim I was playing around trying to get prices for beachfront, back further and a cabin. They make it almost as hard as Disney to get a rate. You have to go thru the entire process, then the drop down doesn't list any sites for the date you select so you have to go back and pick other dates. 4 days for a
  2. guests will discover an expansive bar, aviation decor filling the room, vintage travel posters covering the walls and correspondence between Jock, Indy and their fellow adventurers on display. Must be a typo don't they mean expensive? :doublebeer:
  3. If disobeying signs bothers you, at the stop sign before you enter that section of the road, bear right and go to the next stop sign which is Buena Vista Drive. Turn left until you hit 535, then follow the previous directions. Most of the Hess stations in Tampa have changed to Speedways. We still have 1 or 2 hold outs. Not sure if they are changing over, but the conversion only took 1 day at 2 of the stations so don't know what the hold up would be. Wa Wa's have great sandwiches and coffee drinks. They usually have some sort of special going on with coffee (79 cents any size right now)
  4. For the folks staying at AKL or the All Stars here's a couple of nearby places. For AKL looks like you can leave the property then take a right onto Sherberth Rd to 192 which is the least amount of turns. For the adventurous take a right off Sherberth onto Silver Lakes Blvd to Black Lake Rd to 192. You will be a lot closer to a Super Target and a Publix than if you went straight out on Sherberth Target 3200 Rolling Oaks BlvdKissimmee, FL 34747(321) 677-3971 open 8 till midnight On 192 just before the 429 overpass Publix Super Market at Orange Lake Town Center Town Center At Orange
  5. Tampa broke a record high yesterday 5/12 at 95 degrees! Only going to high 80's low 90's today.
  6. I think there's a Dollar Tree near that one also. We rarely make it further up Turkey Lake than the Central Florida underpass heading towards SeaWorld. That is another good shortcut, allowing you to avoid the Sand Lake mess there by I-4.
  7. Well that's the one on 535. Surprising. Just shows you never can tell.
  8. The one on 535 has a Murphy in front of it. It's near other business and hotels. I always felt that was a safer one then the one down 192 towards Kissimmee. That one doesn't have a Murphy, and is a little more isolated.
  9. Good find, when I searched Google the first time that one didn't pop up, just the Sand Lake one.
  10. Great pictures. The flowers were a lot nicer this past weekend then when we went near the beginning of the festival. It's a shame they tear everything out.
  11. I hear that selling a liver, kidney and spleen will almost cover the cost of 2 AP's!
  12. We stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacation Resort on Vineland at the end of the mall by International. Took us about 15 to 20 minutes to get to Wilderness Lodge for Sunday breakfast (and that was behind a Disney bus). Was easy getting over there and checking in after we left EPCOT Saturday afternoon.
  13. There is a new back way to the Premium Outlet, the one you see from I-4 and next to the big Catholic Church. Might add a mile, but little or no traffic. Turn left on Vista Drive. Take it until it dead ends at 535 (ignore the company vehicles only sign, everyone does) turn right and stay in the center lane. At the next major intersection (Shell on right) go straight. You are now on Palm Parkway. Go thru the 4 way stop (if you turn left you can go to Winn Dixie and ABC Liquor.) About 3/4 to a mile there will be a stop light with a road going to the right. This is Daryl Carter parkway
  14. Not looking too hopeful for Tampa, it was brutal yesterday, had heavy storms last night and going back to 90's today and the rest of the week. Spring, I remember that, we had it 1 day a few years ago...
  15. Didn't know about the Harbor Freight. We have one about a mile from home. Great place to get inexpensive tools, bungees, tent stakes, and simple hardware. The CVS at 536/536 is closer, but I see that it's only open until midnight. The Walgreens on 435 is open 24 hours.
  16. Aldi is our go to grocery store. None are close but there is one that is just a couple of turns to get there from the back way out of the Fort. 765 W Sand Lake Rd Orlando 32809 If you are familiar with the area, Sand Lake is where that giant McDonalds is at the corner of International Dr. The Aldi is east on Sand Lake across from the Florida Mall. There is a Whole Foods on Sand Lake between Turkey Lake and I-4. If you go up 435 to Sand Lake you might miss some traffic, and it used to be a pleasant drive. Once you get past the International Drive area on Sand Lake, the traffic get
  17. Don't know what's going one with the weather, climate change, mad scientist, etc (maybe old age and weight gain). but if you are heading to the Fort or anywhere at Disney watch out. We are having mid Summer Florida weather right now. Highs in the low to mid 90's sunny, humid, then a chance of rain. We baked at the parks this past weekend, and we have been living down here since 78. We had about a total of 6 days of Spring spread out over April, cooler temps, low humidity. But we are getting hammered now. So pack/dress accordingly, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, make Coppertone rich, we
  18. Sorry for the messy way it looks. Tried to save time by doing a copy/paste from Google maps. Think I spent longer trying to attempt a clean up, and it still doesn't look that great.
  19. These are all below I-4 and on or near 535. To avoid congestion on 535 near Downtown Disney, leave the Fort, use 536 to the intersection of 536/535 and turn right. 20. Most of the essential stores are on 535, 536, or 192. Just depends on the quickest way to get to,them.
  21. We were at BOG for lunch and pretty much finished up, just our drinks still on the table. I walked my granddaughter out to the ladies room and she popped right back out saying "I'll be a while there's a long line". While waiting I see a server talking to my wife still at the table. When we got back she said it was time to go. The server came over asking if she needed anything else, had she been waited,on etc. And it wasn't like they were churning the tables for others coming in. They had already closed the gate and doors and were getting ready for dinner.
  22. I see that Marty started a trip report, and in it mentioned the sketchy directions she got from a CM on how to get to a Target. Gee, the nerve of her wanting to leave the comfort of WDW property and not pay $6 for a beer and $12 for a sandwich! Maybe we need to start a thread or an Info page on nearby stores, address's, and directions to them. Sort of like an off site survival guide. Or is there already one around and I just overlooked it? I know my way around the area, and know a lot of the shortcuts and back entrances to avoid going in and out of the Downtown Disney area and the wor
  23. As usual with Disney's bass-ackwards approach of doing things, it has caused a lot of grief, frustrations and wasted time to the guests. Also way more work for the reservation agents, supervisors, and customer service agents that are higher up the food chain that have to reply to aggravated guests. Wonder if they really accomplished anything? Has anyone noticed any new fine print stating what you book is what you get, and don't you dare try to shorten your stay?
  24. Did you go to Whispering Canyon Café, and if so what grade did it get?
