  1. My latest form also says 3PM. But, we always arrive in the 9A - 10A time frame and almost always go directly to the site. We tend to arrive Wednesdays & Thursdays at off peak times so that probably has a lot to do with it.
  2. Too many people blame the parents. It was a horrific accident and I grieve for them. But, I don;t blame them. I grew up in Florida. I understand alligators are everywhere but never thought about it in the closed world we all call Disney. I can remember walking my dog on the canal walk behind the 300 loop when she wanted to swim, and I let her...... Here is a quote from a good article that those who blame the parents should read: An Open Letter To Perfect Parents: Put Down Your Pitchforks
  3. Most Class A gensets use the same tank as the vehicle engine, but the gas line for the genset is higher in the tank so that it can't run the tank dry. Obviously on a trailer the genset will have it's own tank. I agree in using non ethanol gas in as many of your devices as you can
  4. Todd has the right idea. Time your trip, if traveling thru ATL timing is the key. I lived there for five years and commuted in that traffic downtown every day. Todd's 9:30am - 11:00am is good as is 1:30 - 3:00pm. If not, wait until after 7:00pm to go thru. You want to be listening to AM 750/FM 95.5 which is WSB Radio http://www.wsbradio.com/ WSB has good traffic reports all day long. I would listen to them live a few times before your trip so you can learn how the traffic reports sound. Now, your other option is to skip I-85 and drive thru Columbia, Jacksonvil
  5. Interesting article in the LA Times Why 'dynamic' pricing based on real-time supply and demand is rapidly spreading
  6. Geeze, you wanna get back on track..... I agree, early on FW was part of the team. Not so much any more. I'm a believer that if they ever develop the waterfront between the lodge & FW into their western theme area, even if a big part of it is DVC will help the for recover some of its status.
  7. It was actually re-branded The Disney Inn in 1986. From Walt Dated World: Disney didn't get out of the golf business until 2011 when they leased the golf operations to Arnold Palmer Golf Management. From the Orlando Sentinel at the time: But the idea that it had no real theme is probably the reason it never did well. From what I read it usually had 60-70% occupancy when the Contemporay and Poly were running in the high 90's.
  8. I'm still surprised Disney sold the resort outright. 43 million just seems like chump change when dealing at the scale Disney works. I know Disney still owns the land and leases it toe the Department of the Army, but I'm still shocked at the sale.
  9. After it was taken over by the Army, it was remodeled again and more rooms were added. I know I can;t use Wikipedia for college papers, but I hope it works here:
  10. The Contemporary?? I can't remember if the garden wings were there at first, but for some reason I thought they were. I don't count BLT as it is a DVC.
  11. The 2012 Federal highway funding bill required interoperability for automated toll systems on roads that receive any federal funding by October 2016. Right now I have both an EZPass and a SunPass in my truck, but with a little luck I can get rid of one of the accounts later this year. In the US there are many toll pas systems, but most belong to one of the big four: EZPass (12 Northeastern states) Sun Pass (Florida) TxTag (Texas) FasTrak (California) EZPass is about twice as big (number of tags) as the other three systems combined. I can tell you that
  12. The only down side is they only have water/electric sites. The sites up close to the ocean are a little "funky" because the ocean has reclaimed a road and several sites, thus the road was rerouted and they re-worked some sites. Until you have visited be wary of any sites listed as pull through. Many of the pull through sites wrap around trees and are difficult to set up in.
  13. This seems to be a dead link now for some reason I get the following message: Sorry, there is a problem Cannot find the page you requested Error code: 2T187/2
  14. The point that everyone seems to overlook as they look back at the past is that River Country was not a perq for those staying at the campground - it was a separate ticketed entity which just happened to share the parking lot with the Fort. Yes, it was close and you could walk to it from your camper, but it was not part of the Fort. Following that logic EPCOT belongs to the Boardwalk because it's close and you can walk to it.
  15. This thread has been on track way too long, time for a side trip. Is he going to be stationed at PI after he finishes or are they sending him to San Diego as he is already on he left coast? If PI, the best place around to camp is Hunting Island State Park. Right on the ocean and during the winter dogs are allowed out on th ebeach.... http://southcarolinaparks.com/huntingisland/introduction.aspx
  16. There is no beach at River Country and the only pool they could reopen is a small kidney shaped pool in the middle of the property. Any modification to try to use the old River Country site for Fort Wilderness guests is just too expensive for them to even consider IMHO.
  17. Well, here is the full history I have been able to put together - Fort Wilderness opened November 19, 1971 on 750,at that time it had 231 camping sites including loops 100 - 600. June 1973 added 481 sites, loops 700 - 1900 April 8, 1974 "Treasure Island" opened with a pirate theme April 1974 Pioneer Hall opened April 1976 Treasure Island renamed Discovery Island and became an accredited Zoological park June 1976 added 113 sites, loops 2000 - 2100 June 1976 River Country opened April 1979 added Creekside Meadow group camping area December 1986 added 38
  18. Yea, they have changed the pet rule wording multiple times. Here is what I have on my web page. The first statement is from the old FW Q&A they had on line. Q. Can you tell me more about keeping my pet at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground? A. Specific areas of Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground have been made available to Guests with pets. These are full hook-up campsites. There is a $5.00 per day pet charge. (This is a per day, per site charge only, not per pet.) Sorry, Guests in tents and pop-up campers may not keep pets at their site - they must be k
  19. I can agree with a lot of this!! As for myself I camped at FW soon after it opened, around 1974 if I have my facts straight. I think a lot of us notice the "blemishes" because we have been there through the years or just spend so much time there that little changes stand out. To the average camper who may only go once or twice for the week long vacation they would not see what we are talking about most of the time.
  20. I don't disagree at all with either of you, but it always comes back to who is enforcing the "rule". I don't care if we are talking about pets, golf carts, number of people on the site....... It's all the same
  21. The tent/pop up rule is also stated right on the Release and Indemnity Agreement all pet owners sign when they check in. The last rule is "Pets are not allowed in pop-up trailers or tents". Now, with that being said we get to the gray area. As a former pop-up owner I asked about this rule many times and it was always explained to me that pets should not be left unattended in a pop-up or tent.
  22. Let me know if you want to dispose of them. The yearly family reunion has a Jarts tournament and they are getting hard to,come by.
  23. I'm sure at some point they will work with the manufacturer to "theme" the walk trough detectors, it is not something Disney maintenance can just build around them. As someone who was certified to operate them in a former job, there are specific rules (different, depending on manufacturer) as to how close other objects can be to the equipment. Just building a pretty box around them without consulting the manufacturer may cause multiple false positives, backing up the lines.......
  24. Well, I just pulled my Disney file looking for old invoices. April 1979 I was in the Tower building of the Contemporary for $65 a night 1991 Fort Wilderness price list has Partial at $30 a night, Full hook ups at $37 a night and Preferred at $44 a night.
  25. Same here. Just before the no expiration tickets went away we purchased 2 10 day tickets each (4 tickets). Our normal trip ends up with us in the parks 3 or maybe four days so these tickets will last at least 5 trips. We used to do at least one trip a year but no longer. it almost needs ot be something "special" like meeting family now. It's just not the same as before....
