to me I cant put a cost to the memories that i made as a kid growing up at the fort.
I know my mom and dad worked OT, or second jobs to make it work and for that I am grateful.

That being said, I have made it, camping at the fort, a priority for my kids.

I am a Disney fan like most others, and it came to the realization that staying at a Disney property was going to be expensive, but the benefits about the transportation/ planning out weigh staying anywhere else( unless were there for 1 night)

back in 2014 we spent 27 nights in Disney hotels, and that set me back just over $6,000 for just the sleeping portion, that didn't include food/ drinks , add in tickets/ food and drink and I am sure It was over $10,000
The decision was made to skip 2015 and save money, I used that money to purchase our first pop up, something i never had as a kid growing up, I was in class C's at a young age and then transitioned to a trailer as we camped less and less.  
we have now camped at the fort 2 times for a total of 7 days and were only in 2 months in to using it, my kids faces light up when they see dad backing the truck up to the garage to hook up the camper, and for that I can not put a price on it.   
on our most recent trip, this just melted my heart...

he was so excited to be back at the mouse house.
so to answer the question, at what point does the fort become not worth it, Id have to say it will be at the point you stop making memories....

mom and dad told me you can always make more money, but you cant always make more memories

Generally folks don't take things too personally here so no worry about walking on eggshells.  And if they do... well, one of the basic tenets of FortFiends is that people are supposed to behave like grownups - at least when it comes to treating each other with respect and being responsible for what they say.

You're not missing anything. It's another forum where lots of people take lots of things VERY personally.  If you'd posted there, no matter how gently, someone would likely have taken offense and gotten all pouty about it, and maybe even stomped off to a moderator to complain.
 
Luckily you are in the land of Snarky here, where such things generally (with a few exceptions) don't happen.  And if they do, our motto is "put on your big girl/boy pants and sort yourselves out."  :)

Once upon a time the camping board over "there" used to be a thriving forum, full of fun and information, and yes, a fair bit of snark.
 
Back in late 2010 about 30-40 of us old time Fort Fiends were banned for being, well, pretty much exactly what you see here.  Actually to be fair, a bunch of people left on their own accord, some were banned for no reason at all, and others were banned simply for being "guilty by association."
 
Jen and Chris started a new purple sandbox where we could be our Snarky™ selves and continue to share the information, fun and camaraderie, while being expected to behave like grown-ups (mostly) and moderate ourselves, instead of crying to the principle all the time.

As the rest of you slowly recover from your beer and vodka surprises, I have just completed my morning inspection. Clementine's Beach is completey clean and back to normal. Everything is gone from the pavilion. Those four trucks are parked in the field behind Pioneer Hall. Just one Prevost is left behind the barn. Like nothing ever happened.
