Lets hope 1 week is not too long in a small camper.
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to jjbescher's topic in Trip Reports
Good report Jon, and a nice touch in reviewing everything at the end. We've been there many times, but there is always something new to see or do. Come back as often as you can. -
February 2011 Trip Report From TCD
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to Tri-Circle-D's topic in Trip Reports
Welcome TCD. Glad to have you over here. I still post some over there. They need the help. And there are some over there who were not privy to the great separation. We'll be at the Fort in July and December. Hope to see you there. -
Has anyone noticed as to whether the movie schedule repeats...say is the January schedule the same as another month, or are they completely new each month. I've looked at the schedules on and off for a long time, but never noticed whether there is a pattern.

Are greens a Southern thing, or do others get to enjoy them too? We have them often, either cooked as described above or cooked then frozen for later. And the SWEET cornbread with lots of butter makes for a real meal. Don't like them cooked with bacon that falls apart and tastes fatty.

Give me your opinion
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to mgsmom's topic in Fort Wilderness Loops Information
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the 1400 (Big Bear) loop. It is close to the central activities and not too far from the Marina area. But we've also been in 500 twice lately (without a 4-legged critter) and in 900 last summer, all with good results. As has been stated in other threads, there's not really a bad loop and very few bad sites at the Fort. Opinions are like noses: Pretty much everyone has one, and they are all different. My opinion is for a site in FW at any time! -
MagicBus, Do you know what the proper/current line up procedure is for wheelchairs at bus stops at the parks? Until last Christmas we always lined up outside (road side) of the normal queue and waited. When a bus approached, we held up the appropriate number of fingers to indicate how many wheelchairs we had with us at that time. The drivers always stopped and let us know how many he could take and inquired if any could transfer to a seat. Then at HS we were heading toward our normal spot and a CM told us we had to go through the regular line. A.) It's hard to get wheelchairs through th

Priced out of the fort !!!!
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to JARRSHEL's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
I get 10 mpg in my van and around 5 in the MH. Yesterday was the first time I've ever put $100 in a gas tank. We need someone in office who will take a strong stand to recover the oil resources we have in this country until some real renewable fuel source or alternative mode of propulsion is developed. Whether it be to drive to work or to WDW, there is only so much oil underground. What will future generations do? I may be talking 5-10 generations, but it WILL run out sometime. -
Trees at FW
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to BouncingTiggers's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Last Christmas we were temporarily moved out of our site...decorations and all....so CM's could remove a tree at the rear of the site that looked like it might be dangerous in a storm. The crews helps us take everything down, moved us to another site while the work was done, moved us back and set everything back up in our original site. The honcho over the work even brought his family by our site that evening to see our decorations. Great preventive work. I can't say wht it might have been otherwise. -
Priced out of the fort !!!!
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to JARRSHEL's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
We've been going for Christmas for many years and in recent years have added a shorter stay in the summer. We deplore the high prices, but we don't do much besides our WDW/Fort visits. For us it's still worth it and we'll likely cut other things to keep going there. Besides, there are not a lot of places we can take our kids where we can either relax or jump in to all that is offered...on reasonably flat land where pushing wheelchairs is not so much of a chore. We still make an occasional trip to Gatlinburg, but the Dollywood hills are getting to be a little too much. -
Does anyone have information on the order the camping loops were opened? Was there a master plan for the expansion, or were new loops just added as demand for campsites grew? This is all quite fascinating. From one or two visits, it seems the Fort is pretty static, but from the info given here, it seems to be everchanging. Was it better then, or is it better now, or is it just different from time to time?

Shuttle Launch
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to Retired and Happy (Ken)'s topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Posted by WSB-TV today... Updated: 11:16 am EDT April 4, 2011 CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- NASA is delaying its next space shuttle flight - the last voyage of Endeavour with Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' astronaut husband in charge. The flight was postponed because the original April 19 date conflicts with Russia's plans to send a cargo ship to the International Space Station. Endeavour is now scheduled to blast off April 29 with Mark Kelly at the helm. It will be the next-to-last shuttle mission. Shuttle Atlantis will close out the 30-year shuttle program this summer. NASA announced the postponement Mo -

For an overnight, not so important, but for several days or more, it becomes more important, especially as mentioned during bad weather and Mostly in football season. I haven't carried the satellite dish in a year or so, but have watched a lot of cable. -
Inverter question
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to Judy in Texas's topic in RV Repairs on the Road, at FW and Elsewhere
Judy in Texas, Any follow up on your electrical problem? Did the A/C and microwave work? Are the lights still dimming, or was that a one time thhing? It occurred to me your converter might be oging bad. I don't know how old your TT is or what model of converter you might have, but if you started hearing the fan, it could be that the converter fan is binding, or has accumulated enough dust to throw it off balance a little causing more noise than usual. Hope all is well. -
Trees at FW
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to BouncingTiggers's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Used to have one on a property line. Thankfully my neighbor wanted it gone along with his tall pine trees (they break and fall on houses), so he paid to have the sweetgum taken out. Yes, the balls were in the yard for years, and I still have to fill every year where the root suystem is rotting out beloe ground. And we later got rid of our tall pines that were anywhere near the house. We still lose one at the back of our lot every 2-3 years in storms. Trees ! Bah! All they do is produce broken houses, leaves, pine straw, sweetgum balls,... shade, beautiful flowers, apples, pears, peach -
I thought I might be the only one who still lurks around you-know-where. I hadn't mentioned it so I wouldn't be banned from here. :rofl3: I also didn't realize there are so many people who remember and appreciate such good entertainment and humor as has been referred to herein. Love that Hee Haw!! :rofl2: Jen, Good luck on the repairs. These money holes we own seem to get deeper and deeper.

Power Washers
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to Retired and Happy (Ken)'s topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Yea, That's where I first saw it. I wondered if there was any independent confirmation. Also I hate to see that Kenny might be threatened with a ban. -
Sorry if this is discussed elsewhere, but has anyone heard the rumor about WDW banning all the Detailers?

Cool Bus RV
Retired and Happy (Ken) replied to Just Beachy's topic in Camper Suggestions: from tents to Class A beauties
I'll bet MagicBus could spirit a fleet of these to us for conversion in out campsites. We would just have to be quieter than a power washer in doing the work. Although i didn't see any slideouts, so maybe that won't work. Never mind.
