  1. Late 70's. We had a 1975 Eldorado Class C at the time. We went a couple times and later my second family began regular visits around 1998 in a 1990 Georgie Boy Class A. Been going ever since. All visits at the Fort. I don't remember much about those first trips, but then I also don't remember what I had for breakfast this morning...
  2. Yeah Donna, but the bath houses, or Comfort Stations, take care of the stinking part. (Except for Lou. He's a frequent visitor, not a real camper, for now.) There's no accounting for the crazy part, but it's the men AND the women, not just crazy ladies. I think we enjoy each other's company because no one else can stand to be around us for long. But look close...there are some pretty amazing people around here who really care for each other. Oops, that got serious in a hurry. Quick, somebody, give another snarky response...
  3. We have never taken a dog, but have been put in the 500 loop a couple of times. No dog noise except when I went around the back of my MH where the neighbors had a pen set up. Dog were inside when owners were away and at night, so no problem then. We have driven the GC by the dog park many times and you can't even hear them on the road. Virtually all owners leash their pets, and most do the clean up thing. 1400 is close to the Meadows area, and we have been there 2-3 times but we were never bothered by noise there, except when our site backed up to the Campfire area. In the outside sites i
  4. One of those things that makes you go Hmmmm, I didn't know that. :clint:
  5. Swee'Pea was an infant character that crawled around in the Popeye comics. And what was his name that always said," I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today."?
  6. Lou was just there to use the pool and take up a chair or two.
  7. Will do, Lou...on the compliment. Not so sure on the smacking bit. Trouble is, there are too many smart people over here that give good answers before I can put in my little bit of knowledge. So I lurk a lot without posting.
  8. Hi Norm. After much study, I have identified the one on the right to be a US coin, probably a quarter. :rofl3: I also find it incredible that no one has been able to identify the other three. I had come to believe the Fiends knew, or could find out, everything. :superhero:
  9. Sorry Dave. I hadn't seen your post and was not sure you were over here. Looking forward to seeing you and yours.
  10. We rented one from Disney for a day years ago. The next trip we rented for a week. Before the next rip we had bought one. Then we had to buy a bigger cargo trailer to move it. We rarely take it anywhere except the Fort, but there are many days we don't go to the parks, so it comes in handy for moving a couple of wheelchair bound kids around. We like the busses and use them to the Outpost and Marina, depending on where our site is. And of course there are mail runs, trading post runs, laundry, looping, visiting, etc. Depends on your likes and your budget. As others have said, it's a con
  11. I bought one a few years back with a birthday gift card. Got it at Home Depot, although it was a closeout sale, and I'm not sure they still handle the things. it was a brand name, probably Magic Chef. Used it once with poor results, although it was outside under our awning in 100 degree heat for a week. Set it up here at home in the garage and let it do its thing for a couple hours, but not much ice. Dried it out and put it in the box where it sat until DW gave it to her daughter a couple months ago. She uses it in her kitchen to good advantage when she entertains. I doubt I'll get anot
  12. Though this resides on another forum which will not be named, there is interest in this display. I have learned that Dave the Castle Guy will be at the Fort from Dec 5th, have his display set up by the 8th, and last show on Christmas Day. He also stops at 10 p.m. every night in consideration of his neighbors and the Fort quiet hours.
  13. I mounted our Snarky sign just below the bend on my new rotating flag pole. It's opposite the flag, so the weights balance somewhat. So far it supports it well.
  14. Great Halloween Mickey Light. I gotta steal that idea.
  15. We usually rent from Enterprise. They have always come to the campsite. Alamo required us to meet at the Outpost.
  16. If my MH can't get me there, I don't need to go. No flying of ANY kind for me. But the balloons are beautiful from the ground.
  17. I did not know brown rice took longer to cook. My doctor wants me to eat that instead of white rice, so there is a change coming. All the stuff mentioned above sounds and looks great! Gotta do some planning when we get home.
  18. We start near Atlanta, on I-285 (east of town). We always stop for the night at the Inn & Out RV Park at Lake City FL. That's at the I-75 and US 90 intersection, maybe a half mile east. We find it convenient with a Lowes (or is it HD?), a Wally World, and MANY fast food and better eating places. Inn & Out has propane, gas, diesel, and a Subway on site. Works for us and is that much closer to the Fort the next morning. It's not a luxury resort, but a good overnight park.
  19. How is that applied? We pay by the axle, and pay several times getting from I-75 to the Fort.
  20. Ok, she's right. And I had room to move htose pieces of PVC around. Second stand almost finished. The kids helped with this one and we had to go looping in our neighborhood before we finished.
  21. Hey DMML, (And I used one of those tools an hour ago.) My DW has already chimed in back on page 2, but let me add my :welcome: to you. We visited the Grand Gathering at Stone Mountain Park on Memorial Day and a great time was had by all. We didn't stay because it's only 3 miles from our house, but we had a great time and a wonderful meal. Although I had met most of those Fiends on line, I had not met many in person until that evening. but you would not have known that by the reception they gave us. Also, I love the INCREDIBLES. That's the only movie we carry in the MH that is for me. H
  22. I got mine (flag stand) finished in time for Flag Day. It was a couple hour project if your wife hasn't just cleaned the garage and moved all your stuff. I had most of the parts from a previous project and just needed the hardware. It's proudly standing as a second flag display I my front yard. I'll probably build a second one just because I can. But my next project may be a Minnie light. I've got most of those parts too, if I can find them. :banghead: Actually DW did a great job cleaning the garage with her daughter and a friend. Now we have a lot more space to clutter up. :rofl2: :r
  23. What strength of PVC pipe (Sched 40 or 80) do you use for flag stands?...the kind where the flag sits off at a 45 degree angle from the main upright post. What diameter? How tall is the post from the ground to the angle? What do you use for a base? This would be for maybe up to a 3x5 flag. \ \ \ \____ | | | | | | __| |______ Thanks.
  24. There was a nice history of the train situation in our latest weekly newspaper in DeKalb County. They used the steam locomotives until a few years ago. Some diesels were donated by New Georgia Railway (now bankrupt) who used to run excursions all over GA including a dinner train into Stone Montain Park. The Steams had gotten too expensive and difficult to maintain, so the diesels are used exclusively now. I walked up the mountain once...back in '87 or '89...anyway, when I was much younger. It does get quite steep near the top when they have you already suckered into believing you can make
