  1. We took three teens to the Dollywood area this summer. They were CONSTANTLY texting friends back home. Phones were constantly needing recharging. We had a tire probl;em in Birmingham and they went inside and found an outlet they could use during the tire change. it was amusing to watch them survive in an electronic world. We have RV'd for many years with a variety of infants/children (foster and adopted) and each one is an individual with their own wants and needs. I swore-off planes many years ago, and DW has never flown, so that is not an option for us. A good RV is just the ticket i
  2. Sounds like you have an ideal life setup planned. My DW would like to live on Main Street, but has not found a way to do that yet....yes, YET, :rofl3: We use Verizon MiFi for internet connectivity at the Fort. It has served us well, but we are not dependent on such connectivity, so a minor dropout occasionally is only a nuisance for us. (It happens with our wireless router here at home too.) The Fort has pretty good cable TV, but some would dispute that point, so you may want to investigate satellite if you are a big TV watcher. We've camped there on and off for about 15 years and never
  3. Can I have a cul-de-sac built into our site reservation for Loop 3000? I hate to back in.
  4. The one I used a few years ago came in a brief case size box, but consisted of a power supply, the modem, some cables, and an instruction sheet. as I recall, the modem was only a few inches roughly square. Of course I will defer to Lou's extensive experience staying at the Fort. What's that? Only three times? Buddy and Gail deserve more Fort time. :wave1:
  5. We still use our Verizon MiFi which gives our own hotspot. It has dropouts occasionally, but so does my wireless router at home.
  6. After having a cargo trailer tire go flat on the way to Sevierville in early July, we had a van tire separate while taking some grandkids home. The spare was a good one, but now I have four new Bridgestones on the van. I'm happy our "new" Southwind has only six tires rather than 8 as the Suncruiser did/does.
  7. The seat belt Judy referred to is a tether strap that runs down behind the seat or sofa and is bolted through the floor. The recliner also get a belt that wraps around the back of the chair, and the one on the sofa gets a strap the connects to the sofa frame in front. I have noticed lately the infant car seats have a sticker that says "Side Impact Tested" which indicates to me the sofa is a safe place for these seats. I think the age ranges refer to the fact that infants need a car seat to one age, then after a certain infant height and weight, a booster is required until another range o
  8. In fact we just returned from there on Sunday. The main drawback is all gravel roads and mostly gravel campsites, with a concrete patio pad. Gravel does not work well for wheelchairs. But we are likely to go again because of the lot sizes and accessibility to the Parkway. iRV2 has held national rallies there a couple of times (2006 and 2012, maybe). New office/store. Nice people running it.
  9. We always order extra sides with our GAG, but never bothered to ask the price. Money is no object when you know the Disney reps are going to shake you upside down when you leave to get those last coins from your pockets anyway.
  10. We used many of the type OP shows, even re-webbing several in our leaner days (both weight and money). Broke several different models by leaning back or twisting around. Now I use one from Sam's that is rated for 300 ponds. Hoping i don't really test it. Mine is blue and has KEN written in the back with a SHARPIE.
  11. We have traveled for many years with our special kids, and this would have been nearly impossible without a MH (or other RV). We have added a chairlift to the side near the door to move the kids from their ground level wheelchairs to the floor level of the the MH. We have added an Add-A-Room for sheltering the chairs and for any overnight visitors we may have. We tow an enclosed trailer to carry a golf cart for mobility around the Fort. The trailer is also handy for carrying a rack of oxygen tanks, cases of diapers, liners, wipes, formula and baby food, and the necessary obnoxious Christma
  12. It's worth a visit from Buddy, even if he brings Lou along. And on rare occasions you might even meet Gail, the brains of the outfit.
  13. Tim, Lake Lanier is above Full Pool for the first time in many years. Since the late 80's, it has tended to run anywhere from 5-10 feet low due to droughts. A fast moving system tonight will probably add a few inches more. They are now thinking of permanently raising Full Pool two feet to add 30 years or so to adequate water to the Atlanta area system. And plan on the Stone Mountain GG for next memorial Day weekend. I haven't heard anything definite yet, and one rumor had it moving to TN. Keep a watch on these forums for further word. Ken
  14. flaboy1968: We have driven through Kanawha a few time in years gone by. We wanted to see how the other half lives. Not sure they would let our aging vans in there now. It is a nice area, with some wonderful homes. We don't live in that part of town. We live south of the Mountain, off Rockbridge. We do like the Stone Mountain area (been here 26 years) and it makes it really easy to get to the FF Grand Gathering at the park during Memorial Day weekend. I've been here since 1987, so it's pretty much home now. In fact just put on our second roof today. BTW, I had this reply ready several days
  15. We have some time to go before we get there...have to make a Dollywood trip first and put the kids through another semester of school. Enjoy.
  16. If you do online check-in, do you have to get in line at the entrance, or is there some way around that? Last year DW went in the building to check-in while I waited in line. When I got to the head of the line, I told the CM she was inside, and the CM told me to park by the island just inside the booth area. Don't know if inside check-in helped or not. I had to wait on her to finish.
  17. Did I miss something? The only place I saw a reference to a different price for MK was under the one day pass for FL residents. It doesn't seem to to aim any different Park cost to any AP or out of state tickets. More expensive in general, yes, but isn't it always?
  18. Shanta, Again thanks for your work. I've used your entry for several years and found my MH online in the 1200 loop after last Christmas. Ken
  19. Definitely. And be sure to post your site number and when you will be away so some fiends can drop by and help themselves. And be sure to let us know when it will be ready to eat. Watch out for Lou, the degenerate bus driver. He prowls for BBQ and Apple Pie or cobbler. :rofl2: And welcome to the Fort Fiends website. We are a friendly and slightly off beat bunch and most have a great deal of knowledge about WDW and Fort Wilderness in particular. :welcome:
  20. One of Judy's favorite things to do at the Fort is to do laundry, usually every day. But she needs her 3-in1 sheets. And I would do most anything to help her get the stuff she needs to do laundry.
