  1. My last tent camping trip ended in rain that turned to sleet and then to snow. My fingers hurt by the time we got done packing up.
  2. Sorry if you' answered this already, but what brand/model is your tent? And the food looks yummy- taking TIW is a bonus! We're definitely going to try there. There is a hidden mickey in the ceiling there. My daughter laid on the floor to find it. :D
  3. I agree with sherryberry- it was fast and good turns, but no major dips that I recall. I'll report back in a couple of weeks!
  4. That's really cool. I've never seen a yellow sticker that included the propane weight before.
  5. You should go to pretty much any truck stop along the highway. Or, if you're in a more rural area- bulk agriculture supplies, grain houses, and even dumps have scales. If you go to a truck stop, they'll have scales setup to weigh each axle (the truck's front wheels, rear wheels, and camper's wheels). Here's something that might help: How to weight your travel trailer
  6. I agree. The GVWR stands for "gross vehicle weight rating" and includes anything in or on the camper. Basically, you take the dry weight, any factory options (optional and mandatory), anything the dealer adds (propane, battery, etc), and then anything you put into it (including water in the various tanks, clothes, kitchen stuff, campsite essentials, etc). Now, it's only a worry while you're going down the road. For trailers, you don't need to worry about you and the family's weights in the camper's GVWR. I've not seen anything negative about the Hensleys except for price. I think you'll like
  7. Towing-wise, I doubt you'll see a difference. Finding camp-sites that you fit in, that could potentially be an issue depending on what type of camping you enjoy. And, as Keith pointed out- the tongue weights will be different. For me, above everything else- floorplan was all important. We had a list of 5 or 6 "must haves" and 3 or 4 "must not haves". But, I'm lucky that we were able to buy the truck and camper at the same time.
  8. We're just the opposite. Linda never goes to the CS and I only do if we are someplace without water hook-ups and those stays are normally never longer than 2-3 days. I am the same as Grumpy and Grandma. We only use our camper's shower unless we don't have sewer or water hookups. Even then, I try to gauge departure, pump out timing, and luck in order to use my own shower. :) That said, there are some really spacious showers on the market. Ours is 48" x 30" but it is a shower only, no tub. I like it because it is easy in and easy out AND I don't like baths. We used to take a portable/fold up
  9. Oh- it'll be ugly. We were supposed to be prepared to run it and haven't done a lick of prep.
  10. These trip reports make me miss tent camping! We are doing the 5k in a couple of weeks. We waited too long to register for the kids fun runs, but my wife, daughter, and I are doing the 5k together. My mother-in-law will stay in the room with our 2 year old son. Pretty amazing that Andy could do a 1/2-one day and the full the next!
  11. That's how Jack Skellington was - just a pre-printed card. I'll try to get a real autograph. If not, I'll come away with a card. My daughter got all excited when she found out Baymax was there. :)
  12. We are going in a little over 3 weeks. Assuming the wait isn't crazy, I can try to get one.
  13. So, the one nice thing about this for folks who buy gift cards at a discount. You can "cash in" gift cards and then you don't have to use fifty $50 gift cards to pay for things.
  14. We stayed at Two Rivers RV Landing RV Resort for an overnight stop on our way to Alabama. It was a nice place but felt like you were in an undeveloped business park. The location worked for us and it was perfectly level as they were fully paved spots. The bathhouses were immaculate and the nicest that I've seen. I think I'd stay here again. http://www.tworiversrvresort.com/
  15. I feel like this is a case where being first might not be best. But, here's to wishing Snarky a Happy Birthday. Kind of glad I stuck around and got over myself. :)
  16. Man, my sister is so into it! I had to grab a Tsum for her too. The Dr. Seuss area is very cute! I love all of the colors there. We don't really do anything in that area, but I always feel the need to take a picture of it! :) We did photos with the grinch- he was HILARIOUS!
  17. When it comes to trailers bigger is not always better. Some times I miss our small camper we started with. I like our huge camper most of the time, but that's mostly because we don't really camp. We're more of travelers. I would like a small trailer just for *camping*. I actually designed one, just have to figure out how to build it/have it built. Lots of sleeping quarters but still pretty functional with all of the amenities of a regular camper.
  18. Thanks... mercy this stuff gives me a headache. We're planning to stay with our current tow vehicle for another 3 years but when we're ready for another, we're just gonna bite the bullet a stinkin' huge truck. Ha! That's one way around it. But I will say my wife and I both *L.O.V.E.* our stinkin' huge truck (except for after school pickups- that's literally the only regular hassle when we need to use it for that!).
  19. Yes. But know that the "dry hitch" weight will never occur in real life. You need to expect it to increase as you load up the camper. There are tools to help you estimate it.
  20. Remember it is always DaveinTn's fault. Is it my fault that it's no longer his fault all the time?
  21. I've always wondered, who we can blame for things around here I take blame and fault extremely well!
  22. I'm never clicking this thread again. That all looked AWESOME.
  23. By this point, it was Christmas Eve. We decorated the tiki hut, our camper, and our site with some Christmas decorations. First, our Christmas tree. My in-laws own a skinny tree and it's perfect for the camper. We used it in 2012 inside and again this year. Next up are a pair of "Snow People" that are near and dear to my heart. My Mom passed back in 2011 (at the age of 54 ). Back in the late 80s/early 90s, my Mom made these. Her mom and sister would sit and knit the scarves. She would assemble these and sold them various places. They were always a hit and usually sold out. They're a st
