  1. OK, so this is interesting - that snarky comments are the basis and history of FF.net's existence. I guess I always thought is was simply "All things Disney, Camping, WDW and more...." What is the history of that?
  2. Not to get all sappy here, but I would hope that we could all agree to make every attempt at making our posts courteous, informative and uplifting. We are all hear because of a common love of Disney in general, and The Fort in particular. Honestly, I don't get a lot of the "snarky" comments on this forum, but I also don't find them offensive. More of a waste of time and keystrokes, but that's me. Not passing judgement on any of the parties involved here, but I tend to stick to my parents' advice that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it.
  3. Thanks for the tip - I was able to complete all of my birthday AND Christmas shopping at K-mart yesterday. Looks like it will be a magical Christmas for DW. (Good thing she never gets on this forum!)
  4. I reckon it's all relative. Pretty certain a traditional golf cart will be considerably more than $3k.
  5. That's a bummer. However what Ray mentions above would be a totally legitimate approach. In fact, some of the other vendors have hinted toward the necessity to do that very thing as well. At the risk of playing devil's advocate, and though I don't personally advocate for Disney making it more difficult for these vendors, they have every right to do so. It's an outside vendor seeking to do business on Disney property.
  6. Ditto here. I was excited to find an inexpensive color-changing LED, until I learned that it would always default to white after it's turned off. I like the look of the color-changing LED bulbs, I'm just too cheap to pay for them I guess!
  7. Sounds like we need Lou's personal cell number too. :clint:
  8. We just stayed at Riverbend campground in PF. By our measure, it's the best value in that area. Note, not the newest/nicest/most things for kids to do, but quiet (you can camp on the river) and at $34, it's a deal. We drove through Pine Mountain RV resort and were highly impressed. If you want something that approximates the sites at the Fort a little more, Pine Mountain would be it. Lots of good reviews for Foothills RV resort, and to a lesser extent, Riveredge.
  9. I give them a "10" for the review though...great pics from the attendee's perspective. Very thorough. The food, and beverage did look great. What does that say about me? Huh.
  10. For us, the deciding factor what transporting the cart to/from the Fort. We are in a class A, pulling a small Pontiac Vibe. We thought "wouldn't it be cool if we could find a cart small enough to fit in the back of our car?". After some research, we found the Cricket (www.ricksesv.com). We have used it at the fort for about 10 days and so far love it. The main drawback was people stopping us wanting more info. The fact that it scrunches up to such a compact size is awesome for us. It does have drawbacks - it doesn't go as fast as the larger carts (I think we topped at around 12-13mph
  11. Looks great. BTW, love the canopy w/ screened sides in your profile pic. Where did you purchase? We are planning a summer trip to the Fort and having a screened porch is on my check list.
  12. Speaking of Wally World, the last 3 or 4 times we've made the trip to the Fort, we arrived at the Wally World on Turkey Lake Rd around 2am and slept until next morning to head over to the Fort. We asked 2 different times and were told it was fine. The last time - in March - the security guy came by and said overnight parking was not allowed, but agreed to look the other way. I told him, and this is the truth, that my DW was inside buying supplies and "I'm not sure how long she'll be in there". Anyway, we like it there because it's an easy trek over to the Fort, but will likely find a diffe
  13. Whewee! And you all are calling *me* crazy?! Love it! But yes, I am proudly Disney crazy. I am determined to locate some family pics from that era and perhaps help solve this mystery of mine. -Mike
  14. OK, help me Fiends! So we are sitting around talking about visiting the parks when we were "kids". I'm in my 40's and first visited in 1974. My folks brought us kids to Disney World several times and I have memories and pics from Magic Kingdom and Epcot and of course lots from the Fort. But about Animal Kingdom - I did not visit the parks after I moved away from home until I took my wife to Magic Kingdom in 1995. We visited only Magic Kingdom on that visit. We visited Animal Kingdom, for the first time with my wife, this year. Here's the rub - I have VERY specific memories of some of t
  15. I know - I hear ya. Just once it would be cool to get one of those offers and not have "excluding the Campsites at Fort Wilderness" in the fine print. #icandream #showfiendssomelove
  16. On our recent stay, Jason faxed our top 5 requests six days prior to arrival (I think...Jason, correct me if I'm wrong). Not only did we not get our requested sites, we didn't even get into our requested loop, which was 500. To emphasize, NOT blaming Jason here! And as it turned out, we landed in loop 700 which we loved, so all was well, but since the thread is about requesting sites, just sharing that our request got us nada. Along those lines...we keep a notebook of all possible loops with notes on lots of sites that would be good options (and in many cases, would NOT work for us) so whe
  17. OK, yes I am whining, but... We rec'd a nice card from Disney today with a special offer to come back in the summer and "save up to 30%" on our resort stay, whether we stay at "the cabins at Fort Wilderness" or "try something new". AWESOME, we thought! Well, we didn't stay at the cabins on our recent visit (we camped, as always), and after visiting the website and entering our special offer code, the fine print indicated "does not apply to campsites". Would just be awesome if, sometime, one of these offers applied to the campsites too! Sigh. OK, queue the snarky replies.
  18. They are part-Boston, actually Boston-Rat-Chihuahua (or BRATChihuahuas); I never walked them in the 1600 loop while there, but IF I had, I can guarantee that one of them would not have cared for your boxer (or pretty much any other dog too)!
  19. Sadly we are back home from the Fort, but already planning our next trip! What a wonderful time we had - nearly perfect weather for a week and a half, the bugs were non-existent, crowds were manageable, and fun was plentiful. The only tragedy was my beautiful Mickey lamp post blew over the last day there and will now require some extensive repair. :banghead: But....he shall return, I'll see to it. Great to meet a few more Fiends on this trip - Grumpy and Grandma, Okieheart, and just missed meeting Lou by a few minutes. We'll be back in the summer sometime, and again in the fall.
  20. Just checked and it's working like a charm on my phone now. Probably because it's a nice sunny day with extra magic dust in the air
