Well, here is my first trip report. It's going to be a little slow, since I have to watch the girls at night and be forewarned that there aren't a lot of pictures of the Fort, since it was girls first trip to Disney. The cast of characters included myself at the age of 43, my wife Anne who is 34, my 70 year old mother who also name is Anne, and my darling daughters Cadence and Claire who are 4 & 3 respectively.
First off, I would like to say, that I had a lot of help from people on this board directly and indirectly. I took in much information over the last few months from this board and put it together with my stuff and POOF!! a trip came out of it. So with that said, thanks to everyone.
As some of you may or may not know, we decided not to tell the girls we were going and make it a surprise trip. Of course we had to tell them we were going somewhere, so we told them we were going to a race track that I had gone to and since they have been to Watkins Glen before this was nothing new, so off we went.....
We left at 11PM on Friday and this was a stop off in South Carolina at the welcome center on Saturday morning.

Cadence loves pine cones and SC has some big ones, so she was excited to find these.

We finally got into Florida and headed to the race track.

Thanks for the tip to go around Jacksonville on 9A, it was simple and a nice quiet ride. Going to Daytona, we always headed down 95, now we have solved that nightmare.


We than proceeded to tell them, that we had about an hour to get to the campground we were staying at. We jumped on I-4 and headed West.


Made good time to Orlando and started seeing the signs.....


Down 192 we went and headed for THE SIGN where we were going to tell them.

Well here it comes!
TCD's 12th Trip Report here on FF.net!
I returned from the Fort almost a week ago, but I am just now getting around to getting this one kicked-off.
I took me a while to come up with a catchy title.
I mean, there have already been numerous Halloween trip reports, and I was trying to think of something that would stand out.
It finally came to me.
Seriously. this was a bit of a different trip for us. Between the weather and some special guests, I was not in my typical TCD trip mode. In fact, I struggled to find something new to report about. But, I did find something. And, I was only able to solve one mystery. And, the TCDRMOG award for this trip is kind of weak.
But, it was a great trip.
With lots of Fiends.
So let's begin at the beginning.
It's just TCD and the twins on this trip. No Mrs. TCD. No TCD oldest DD, and no Rocky. We were lucky to get this trip put together, and poor old Rocky just did not fit in to the plans. I owe him a trip, and he knows it. I will make it up to him soon.
We arrived on Friday October 28th, at a little after 4 pm.
The weather in Central Florida had been glorious for the week plus leading up to this trip.
Of course, once our arrival day rolled around, it had to rain.
So, this is what we saw as we pulled up to the fabled gates of the Magic Kingdom:



You see all of that water on the windshield? That's rain.

One of the TCD twins was in charge of the camera at this point in our journey, and she thought it was important to take a photo of her new pillow pal, who had joined us for our trip:

That's an official University of Florida pillow pal. We were representing for the Florida-Georgia game on Saturday.
We will hear more about that later.
There was just a short line at the guard shack as we pulled up. The garden planted outside looked great:

Since it was almost Halloween and since Joe Biden was making an appearance at the Contemporary Resort that evening, I thought a little trick might be fun:



So, what do you think the Castmember did when a guy in an Obama mask pulled up to the Fort?
Well, she asked me for a photo ID.
So, I showed her mine.
I didn't take off the mask.
She directed me to the check in lanes.
Have I ever mentioned how much I love the Fort's Security Guards?
She did a great job protecting the Fort:


We had no major issue at check in.
We were going premium on this trip, and I faxed loop requests for 700, 800 or 900 for this trip.
We were assigned to site 901.
And, then we headed off in the rain to our site.
This firetruck was coming out as we were going in. As far as I know, this was not any kind of big deal:

I don't like it when it rains when I'm camping.
But, it was raining.
We got to our site.
I really didn't like it. We were the first outside site on the loop. The side of our site was very close to the loop road. Plus, we would be set up so that we would catch the headlights of any vehicle exiting the loop at night.
The TCD twins disagreed with my opinion. They thought the site was great- right in the middle of all the action.
I walked across to the comfort station anyway to call the front desk just to see if we could possibly change. The phone was out of order. There was a number posted for the front desk, so I called it. That must have been an old number, because I got a recording for some other business. So that was that. Clearly, we were supposed to stay put and make the best of it.
So we did.
And I'm glad.
I ended up liking our site very much.
That shows you how much I know.
So, it was now 5-ish.
Did I mention we had special guests for the first part of our trip?
It was one of my sisters, and her four year old son, and my nephew, Nicholas. My sister told me that Nicholas had been bugging her about going camping. She knows that I camp. So, we invited them along. She bought tickets for the Not So Scary Halloween Party for Friday night. So, my sister and Nicholas parked at our site and took off for the Magic Kingdom.
I got camp set up.
And, then the girls and I headed down to Trail's End for our Giddyap and Go chicken dinner. It's our traditional first meal. It did not disappoint. If I remember right, we were visited that very first evening by Stefa70 and her great husband, Trevor. S70 filled me in on the gossip, and on who was where. I told them we would stop by to see them later.
We saved our chicken skin for Bob.
And a little later, we headed over to the 600 loop to look for Bob.
We found Bob at his site. Along with a bunch of other Fiends. Some we had met before, and others we were getting to meet for the first time. We hung out there briefly, and then we were on our way.
We hung out at the Fort that night. We looped and enjoyed the decorations and the atmosphere. We picked up Nicholas and my sister at the marina just after midnight, and we called it a night.
The rain ended up being not so bad. It held off for most of the night, and then started back up some time after midnight. It rained softly for most of the night, and it was still drizzling when we got up on Saturday morning.

Anybody who knows me, knows my dh is not a fan of Disney. That being said, in order to get him to go on vacation, we need to go to places other than Disney. I know...perish the thought, but it's true. So, when my hubby said he wanted to go away, I didn't wait around for him to change his mind, as is typical for him. (His last vacation was 4 years ago...an Eastern Caribbean cruise on RCCI) I gave him 4 choices of places to go (no, Disney wasn't one of them...I know better). I contacted Rhonda and asked for pricing. She got back to me almost instantly!! We chose Punta Cana and the planning began. Rhonda handled EVERYTHING for us from the air reservations, to the hotel and all-inclusive package, to the airport/hotel transfers and trip insurance. She also made a reservation for us at a hotel near our departure airport the night before our VERY early morning flight. Every detail was taken care. And...from what we were told by other guests at the hotel who had been to PC many times and stayed in several different resorts... our travel agent chose a GREAT resort for us for our first time there!!! The resort was AMAZING!!! We had the best time and we can't wait to go back! When we do, we will be booking through Rhonda again!! I cannot recommend her enough! Thanks, Rhonda!! You're the best!!

Some of you may have seen this on FB already, but Anna recently had school pictures taken . We got the proofs on Friday, and burst out laughing at this one. This is SO Anna...she loves hugging people. We can only imagine she wanted to hug the photographer. :rofl2:

Here are the pictures of the other design for Halloween. I am not going to put a date on this one, as I think it can be one that can be worn all year, frankly. If you would like one, I will be putting them in the store shortly under events.

It seems like there is a theme running here, seems that a few of us can't wait to get to the fort and are adding a day at the beginning. Am I wrong or are we like a bunch of little kids who can't wait until Christmas morning?

Update from TnBob and the Mrs. We have changed our check in date to Oct 25th instead of the 26th.

I am willing to hold the wine exchange at my site (don't know where I'll be yet-hoping for 1200) on Saturday, October 29 from 2-5 pm if that's OK with everyone.
I think for it to work everyone needs to bring a bottle to open and share and another bottle to exchange with maybe some munchies so we don't get too tipsy.
Let me know if this will work for everyone.

I'm going to post this here, as well as the "We need a plan thread" As you all know, when I am bored I doodle, and well, I was bored, and we needed something so.... HERE YOU GO!!! For the Fiend children, you can laminate them, if I get a chance, I will print a few and have them laminated, but cant guarantee anything, but you can put them on a lanyard and have them wear them around the fort, and they can still be in costume!!! (We use this tactic for Anime Cons)

Still keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you all. Hoping things turn around very soon and we get to meet your wonderful family!

I am counting and at this point I'm gonna say 20 days and about 12 hours and we'll be on the road! That's 2 weeks, 6 days and 12 hours! Heck yeah!

Made it home safe and sound.. Now just need to download two camera's worth of pictures and start a real TR! :rofl2:
