  1. Rain in Florida can be unpredictable at best. The showers can pop up suddenly, can be widespread or very localized. They can be mild or windy as heck. On one of our trips we had our tarp rip down before we had a chance to finish setting it up. Summer is the rainy season in FL. The rains can be very heavy at times. As the saying goes Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
  2. Congratulations. :jumpforjoy We have 2 granddaughters, 5 and 9. They keep you young.... even with all the aches and pains of chasing them around. It was easier keeping up my own 4 when I was in my 30's then it is chasing these 2 now that I'm 60, but it's worth it. Wait until they try the guilt trip "you like xxx better than me" on you.
  3. Yes, most of the major attractions are thrill rides. We take our granddaughters and let them pick their rides. The 9 year old is now tall enough to go on any one she wants. The 5 year old likes the tamer ones. They have a few good shows, the train and sky ride along with the safari ride. It was more fun when you could get a couple of free beers and wander around
  4. Most plans let you use it as a hot spot, but the usage goes against your data plan. Depending on what you connect and what you're trying to do that can add up quickly. Verizon when they had the unlimited data plans used to charge an extra $10 a month if you asked to have the hotspot feature activated on your phone. Now that they have just about eliminated the unlimited data plans, they give you the hot spot for no extra fee so you can rack up data overages. How's that for a marketing coup.
  5. We got our first set yesterday. So if you are staying at the Fort, the Magic Bands are just about useless, unless you are going to the Parks it sounds like. Do the MB create problems if you resort hop? Do you have to scan them to get access to their activities? The grandkids love the arts and crafts at the AKL and I was wondering if you have to scan them to participate?
  6. What kind of container do you make 40 lb blocks of ice in, and are they sealed so melted ice doen't get everything soggy? We've been using gallon milk jugs filled with salt water, but we just had a small nothing special ice chest. Looking at the Colman Xtreme 120 at Wal Mart for $53. They are a lot cheaper then the Yeti brand and got almost as good a review. I like your idea of the multiple chest especailly since we will have a 5 and a 9 year old with us. I think we'll use our smaller chest for drinks and pack their foods (sandwiches, snacks) for the day in it. That will keep them from
  7. After many years of staying in the cabins, then just staying in off property hotels because the cabins got to be too pricey, we purchsed a tent last year. Last time we had "camped" we had 4 kids, a small pop up and were 25 years younger. Now it was the two of us, two granddaughters (4 and 8 ) and a couple of daughters on part of the trips. The oldest granddaughter really really wanted to camp so we purchesed a used Coleman 10 X 14 EZ Up tent. Our first trip they put us in the 1800 loop and didn't charge us extra. That one had a larger concrete pad and a smaller sand pad but the tent fi
  8. The cabins sleep 6. How do their prices compare to renting a trailer?
  9. Busch was on the Friday news in Tampa. All they will say is the Falcon's Fury has not finished safety checks and they won't give a new opening day. Guess they have egg on their faces because it didn't open 5/1. They were offering preferred pass holders special times/days before the grand opening, and they even had contests on the tv and radio to win early tickets.
  10. When I went to the Reception Outpost last year to see a manager, I was greeted outside by a CM with a tablet (iPad?) asking how she could help. I'm guessing if I was checking in she could've helped me outside or taken me in to get checked in. Guess the Fort is moving out of the 19th Century.
  11. Sounds like you have it pretty well covered. We've stayed at the cabins for years and have always had a good time. There's a hallway closet as soon as you walk in that the fishing poles should fit in. If you bring bikes, bring a tarp and a couple of bungees to cover them, there's no outside cover. There are grocery stores nearby if you take the back roads out of the Fort and don't go in and out of the main DisneyWorld entrance. There's a Winn Dixie on Apopka Vineland just N of the Downtown Disney entrance off of 535. There's a Publix down 535 towards 192 and also a Super Wal Mart i
  12. I only have a Ram 1500 single cab and about the smallest Coleman PUP made. The bed of the truck will be crammmed full as it is, and I don't want to load down the PUP. :rofl3:
  13. Very useful information, thanks. No air conditioning in pop up, we tent camped last year same time and the heat wasn't bad but those thunderstorms were.
  14. Tried to copy the page but I couldn't get it to work, so here's the link http://fantasyrvtours.com/rallies/oktoberfest/oktoberfest.html?utm_source=KOA&utm_medium=email&utm_term=reserve&utm_campaign=mcl_oktoberfest&RRID=7182600&rmid=1406_Octoberfest_Okeechobee 3 nights for 1 rig, 2 people including 6 meals and 16 events is $495. Little pricey for a KOA.
  15. Gwen, I haven't updated my trip announcer. We added a stay the end of this month thru 7/5.
  16. Just got this in an email yesterday. It was a little fancier, had a drawing of Beast on the top looking out over a banquet hall. Bonjour Mark, Now for a limited time, you may be able to participate in a test for lunch at Be Our Guest Restaurant. Step inside the Beast’s enchanted castle and experience a meal unlike any before. You can select an arrival window and pre-order meals for your entire party* before arriving at Be Our Guest Restaurant and on the day of your lunch, with your MagicBand**, you’ll be able to breeze by the line, confirm and pay for your order. To begin, follow the s
  17. Yes, it is to the fort. Thanks for the tip about the trading post, always used machines and didn't last very long. Will also look into extreme cooler.
  18. We are planning a week trip this summer to the campground. Until now we have only done long weekend trips freezing jugs of water, prepared frozen foods at home and have had no problems. We were researching electric coolers but such mixed reviews, some say just a good ice cooler is better. If anyone has any food recipes, cooler suggestions for this trip we would appreciate it. We will be camping in a small pop up.
  19. If you have any special items you use for cooking bring them with you. Disney supplies the basics. Knives for cutting are so so. If you are going to grill some tongs and mitts are good. Foil is a good thing to bring along with different sized baggies for storage/ leftovers and or plastic containers. Crock Pot is a good thing to have. I like a certain type of pillow, so when I drive to places it comes along. Fishing poles, bikes, outdoor toys are all good. Again it depends if you fly or drive. Snacks are always good to bring.
  20. After InBev sold the amusement parks in 2009 to Blackstone, many beer-affiliated traditions ended, including the tradition of offering free beer samples in their Hospitality Centers, and Brewmaster Clubs would come to an end in the parks They got rid of the Clydesdale Stables there and at SeaWorld also, or at least you never see horses in them. They ripped down the Brewery back in 95 or 96 since it wasn't profitable, but it also allowed the park to expand.
  21. I feel they went downhill when they stopped giving out the free beer!
  22. Back in the days when I was in auto shop and then working at the Plymouth (ancient times) dealer, the newer tires always went on the rear. That way if there is a blowout on the older tire on the front you have a chance to steer where as a rear blowing you don't have as much control. But again that was a looooong time ago.
  23. Not a grill, but I just bought a Big Boss 1300 watt portable induction cooktop. Thought it would be good to use outside and inside the ole pop-up! Got it on Woot for $39.99
