  4. As DinDavie said, the cabin was part of the Marshmallow Marsh Excursion. They had 2 or 3 big war canoes that launched from behind the Meadow Trading Post. If you got some good guides, they had you race against the other canoes out to the edge of Bay Lake. When you got there, they had a big bonfire going. You toasted marshmallows, sang songs, and got to ask the Disney experts all sorts of questions. DinDavie, I thought there was a dock behind the store that you left from? Maybe my memory isn't as good as it used to be. The railroad was one of the best things they had at the Fort. 50
  5. We did GF ages ago, and it was Princesses at that time. We did the Beach club a couple of years ago, and it was Donald themed. I can't remember if Mickey was there also. Food was good, buffet style, they kept the tables stocked, and they waited to bring the characters out until everyone at least had some food.
  6. They started this summer. They had to remove the Sandstorm ride, then started driving pilings into the ground. Heres a recent article. It will be less than a year for construction from start to finish TAMPA -- When Busch Garden's single-inversion Scorpion opened in 1980, never did the roller coaster expect a new neighbor to put down roots like this. "We dug a hole 60 foot by 60 foot,” explains Jeff Hornick, the director of engineering at Busch Gardens. "Then we drove 105 piles in the ground, up to 205 feet (deep) into the ground." In the Timbuktu section between the Desert Grill res
  7. They have Kraken and Atlantis, both pretty big and fast. It might be there if they break tradition and shorten the time between major builds. Manta I think is two years old ?, and they just opened the big penguin exhibit/ride this year. What and when was the last big ride at DW ?
  8. The ants have been very bad in FL this year. I keep getting these tiny black ants in my kitchen over and over. I use Terro drops, and have been spraying a perimeter spray around doors, windows and my foundation since spring. Usually one treatment takes care of the problem but not this year. Good luck
  9. That's a lot of interesting information and amazing facts. It is astounding how they can keep things in line with so few screw ups . Thanks for the great post.
  10. I don't think it'll be Busch. They are opening a new ride this summer, Falcon's Fury, a 335 foot drop tower. Seems like most parks wait 3 to 5 years between new major rides, so I doubt it'll be Busch based on that timetable. I'm not sure when Universal built their last major ride.
  11. My daughter in Omaha drives me crazy telling about her cheap milk and other grocery bargains. You are correct about Fl milk prices considering it's the second largest dairy producing state in the country. It's all because of the way the govt has the pricing set up.
  12. Howdy and welcome from a fellow Floridian! We were at the Fort when they had the train also, but we were a little older than you. We visited in 77 from NY and moved here in 78.
  13. Just my 2 cents, I would try to make it as simple as possible. The main thing you want is the girls and yourself to see him as soon as possible and without major distractions. I would try to plan something at the Fort, then go back to the camper and spend some alone time. If some Fiends are there, maybe they could have lunch, dinner, snacks ready when you get back depending on the time he arrives.
  14. If you are taking bikes, bike around the loops. There's also a path that goes over the Wilderness Lodge. Take the wagon ride ! ! ! We did it last year, it was us our 2 granddaughters, and another couple. It was a great time. As others said, pony rides, playgrounds, maybe the canoe. You can rent a pontoon boat out on the lake and see the sights, but my older granddaughter ( just loved bike riding the best.
  15. Go to tsa.gov, then look at pre check, active military. They list airports that accept military in pre checks
  16. Check at the pony ride. Maybe he could be in the barn and lead the ponies out for the girls? If he's coming in at night, have him on the wagon ride, or reserve the carriage .
  17. Great idea. No microwave in the tent, so I'll try air/sun drying them first.
  18. What TCD says. Caught a decent crappie/bluegill/sunfish on a piece of hot dog in the pond to the left of the meadow dock. Saw lots of ripples and splashing in the big canal by the bridge to the meadow from the 1500 loop. Also a camping neighbor caught a lot of catfish in the canal behind 1500/1800. Hot dogs last about 1 cast, then they fall off or get eaten by the minnie fish.
  19. Correct, can't use them at Disney lakes. Memphis, you are allowed to take kayaks, canoes, etc to your site? I was wondering if the confiscated them when you pulled in.
  20. There's so much other crap that can be gotten rid of...why the bakery? You know, like the weird, creepy Country Bear thing. "There was blood on the saddle..." Is anyone in Disney management actually aware that that "attraction" is still turned on? I mean, the Country Bear building would make one fine Dollar General. After all, they jam Dollar Generals in any abandoned building imaginable. I hear that the Silver Dome is being turned into one. =================================================================================================== Now you need to stop picking on Country Bear, the
  21. We have been cabin "campers" on and off for quite a few years. If people can remember way back when before the cabin loops were built, Disney had a few park model trailers set up in various loops. We actually rented one of those. The cabins are great if you can get them at a decent price. We've stayed in them for as little as $89 a night back in the stone age up to $225 a night about 3 years ago. They allow you to cook if you want compared to eating out every meal, and you do get two seperate rooms. I would stay in one of them before I spent the same amount at a Disney Hotel. We have ha
  22. Thanks. I think it came out pretty good for a newbie. I wanted to try to make it with an arched roof, but would've needed too many poles and might not have been doable at all.
  23. Our grand kids watched them do it on one of our visits. Someone had an article about making their own tie dye shirts in the craft section, and they talk about the meadow ones a little bit.
