  1. Disney Customer Relations finally came through. I got my apology letter this past Saturday 11/9 with the phone number on how to claim my comp day for a tent site. They said to make sure that I book early, etc.
  2. Unless we get an unusual cold snap, December in Florida is generally warm weather. You should be able to get by in sweaters, hoodies, and the dreaded long pants and shoes with socks. Saying that, one Christmas we did had freezing temps and ice on the fences from watering the plants to save them. I don't know if they have heaters, but you can call the front desk, and they should be able to let you know. 407-824-2900
  3. If you want to drive, you can park at the boardwalk hotel guest lot, then walk over to the entrance or take the boat.
  4. The ones I saw on QVC website were $199. Got mixed reviews, either loved them or hated. Home Depot has them for the same price, and again same type of reviews. One was dead out of the box and was replaced and worked great. Other reviewer said after about 20 minutes it got dim and was hard to see if there were any other lighting around.
  5. We've never stayed at any Disney owned lodging other then the Fort. We did stay one time at Shades of Green, beautiful resort and huge rooms. I've visited relatives at the Contemporary and Art of Animation and was not that impressed by the rooms for the price you had to pay, so it looks like we are in agreement. We stayed at the Spring Hill Suites just above Pointe Orlando about a month ago for $59 a night. Large bedroom, good sized sitting room , mini fridge and microwave, 2 flat screens. We got a free breakfast and the front desk people treated my GD like a princess. We've also stay
  6. Sometimes the bus rides give you a well needed down time, a good chance to relax...if they aren't too crowded. If you take the boat to the Magic Kingdom then walk over to the bus depot, you can catch a bus to everywhere. We did that to AKL a couple of weekends ago and it was pretty quick. Return trip we took the bus to Hollywood (just missed the one to MK) then from Hollywood back to the Fort. Again it wasn't too long. But if you are on a tight schedule driving is by far the quickest.
  7. Mall parking lots on Black Friday morning. Guys hanging out and wives in shopping.
  8. There was a lot of hard work rolling down the street. Those were great.
  9. We have been staying in off site hotels/resorts for the past few years. My daughter's family lives near Celebration and we have passes to Sea World, plus lots of times we just take a mini vacation and bum around the area, or if we get a resort, just enjoy what they have to offer. My wife is a Priceline name your own price genius. She has gotten us some fantastic deals over the years... Embassy Suites for $38 with breakfast and happy hour, Omni for $50, Rosen Shingle for $45. She has noticed that Priceline has changed their areas, and also some of their ratings. It get too complicated for
  10. The movie Merida was much better then the new ones coming out.
  11. But Frozen is Nordic I think. We need some sort of rootin tootin good all American cowgirl/frontier woman. Buckskin, knives, bull whips and firearms. Wrassling a bear and kicking a bobcats behind is just an ordinary day for her. Of course following Disney's formula for princess's she'll have to have a 20 inch waist, giant eyes, and perfect figure!
  12. I think they will have to come up with a new one. Pocahontas has been out too long. No lillte girl wants old princess toys. Maybe someone like an Annie Oakley (but more PC can't have guns), or a made up western heroine that conquers the western expansion of the country single handedly! They recently did Blonde (Rapunzel), red head (Merida), guess it's time for a platinum blonde or someone with multi colored hair.
  13. It's amazing the things that you take for granted and get used to seeing at the Fort, then BAM they are gone. Lets hope it was just moved for the roofing or else it's another piece of the good old Fort gone.
  14. Open space is now the pool Was there ever a reason stated why they defoliated so much of the grounds? I can understand taking down dead limbs/trees, but they just decimated the place. At first I thought it was just the cabin area when we first saw the devistation, but now staying in the other loops I see how widespread it is. They charge enough to pay for upkeep of the grounds, so that can't be the reason for cutting everything down. I guess they don't want no stinkin wildlife at the Fort and want to make it concrete and plastic like the rest of the resorts. Bring back the gate to g
  15. Forgot these Swimming in Bay Lake. There was a large beach and swimming area to the right of the boat dock Those goofy water paddle crafts, the little pontoon boats and those big wheeled tricycle things. Neither are a great loss, you pedaled like crazy and never got anywhere. Years ago we would drive over to Orlando for the day and go to the malls. Then we would stop at the Fort, go to the deli and get sandwiches and drinks for supper, and eat on the beach while the kids went swimming. Used to be able to get a bottle of beer for a $1.25.
  16. Train Trams. Way better than busses Breakfast truck Full serve delis at meadow and settlement stores Large grocery selection and fresh meats and veggies at meadow War canoe excursion Marshmallow marsh Less obnoxious campers
  17. Seeing the cart pictures, and reading all about the good times at Halloween, we bit the bullet and booked a site for Halloween 2014! That gives us a year to get packed and talk our daughters into giving up the grand daughters for those days. 10/30 - 11/2.
  18. I agree about the fast pass system. That happened to us a few years back at Peter Pan. Fast pass kept getting on, then they let in 4 or 5 "regular" people. We gave up after about 45 minutes of not moving. Go back to everyone waiting!
  19. It's a guy thing! He still has 17 3/4 hours before he starts packing. How long can it take to throw 6 t shirts, 4 shorts, some bvds, 1 pair of socks, 1 pair of jeans and flip flops into a cardboard box? :rofl2:
  20. A man after my own heart. BAN Fast Passes. Make everyone take their turn and wait in line. Make a dinner reservation when you get on site. All of these "improvements" are taking the fun out of going to DW. I like the idea of the magic band being a room key, and maybe adding charging privileges and access to other things. As long as the bands are secure, it seems like a better system then keeping track of a card. I just don't like the Fast Pass system. But then again I remember E tickets...
  21. I like it when they throw in the gallon of tea, or when they drop the price to $9. My GD loves the fried chicken, I like the roasters better.
  22. I guess if you can afford to buy a home in there the cost of an AP isn't an issue anyway.
  23. I like kayaking, and I know Disney will not allow you to use personal watercraft anywhere on their property. So, it you are on vacation and have kayaks, canoes, etc with you and check into the Fort, do they allow you to take them to your site, or do they impound them? I always look all of the various canals that are at Disney and would love to get into them with a kayak. There's quite a few if you go out the back way from the Fort. Imagine the good fishing there must be in some of them.
