Travisma got a reaction from djsamuel in Dogs to be allowed at some WDW Resort Hotels + Fort Wilderness Cabins
First off, I'm not a dog hater.  Have had a few over the years.
It's not just a matter of cleaning rooms and yappy dogs.
There are people with various stages of "phobias" about dogs.  How is Disney going to handle that, unless they put aside and entire wing, building, or loop just for pet people.
If someone is afraid of a dog and one gets on an elevator or stairway with them, they might have a meltdown.
Someone has already posted on a FB site that dogs at Art are going to ruin their sons vacation because of his phobia and it's not fair.I
We've been to the Fort more than once and had to listen to a barking/crying dog all day long.  It's not a pleasant way to spend a vacation.
I think.Disney has opened up a big ol can of worms with this decision.

My wife and I went to the MK Saturday and met up with my daughter and her boyfriend who came down from Minneapolis for the weekend.  They were babysitting my youngest granddaughter while my other daughter went to a wedding.
Surprisingly there were no backups on our drive from Tampa on I-4, and this was a Saturday morning between 9 and 11.  The first backup we encountered was at the MK toll booth.  I always get in the line that doesn't move!!
Parked in Rapunzel, got the tram that was pulling up.  No lines at security at the TTC, but had to go thru the metal detector.
Express buses were running, they didn't even get them 1/2 full before they took off, and there were at least 3 in line waiting to pull around to the loading area.
It was a typical MK day.  HOT,  temps were mid 90s with a feel like of 105. Crowds weren't too bad but of course there were the inconsiderate idiots that have to have a meeting in the middle of the walkways.
On the way to TomorrowLand in the walkway between the Stitch Ride and Laugh Factory were 3 or 4 CMs with poles that had Keep Right signs and arrows in the middle of the walkway.  The majority of the people were complying.  They had the same thing over by Peter Pan/Small World.  Had never seen those before.
We let the Minnesotians dictate where we went.  They all went on Big Thunder while my wife and I people watched on the boardwalk overlooking Tom Sawyers Island.
We all did Small World and Jungle Cruise.
Went to the Poly for lunch at Captain Cooks.  I got the Beef and Cheddar sandwich.  Was really good.  Asked for it without the potato chips and saved $2!
After lunch my wife and I headed to our hotel (Rosen Shingle Creek) and they all went to HS.
They stopped at Giordanos and brought pizza back to the hotel at 10:30.
Sunday after we checked out we all went to FQ to walk around, relax, and have some beignets. They were thinking about taking the boat to Disney Springs and possibly going to the movies.
While we were at FQ my granddaughter saw a pumpkin on top of the tower at the playground with a characters silhouette on it.  My daughter has seen  one in the food court also.
Turns out there is a Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt.  You had to locate 13 pumpkins and write down who the villain was on each one. They gave you really good clues to where they were and who the villain might be.  And most of the pumpkins were close to the main building/pool area.  The furthest was the boat landing.
After we finished they gave out buttons saying I found 13 villainous pumpkins at PO FQ.
I hate to say it, but with all the crap going on at the Fort (trying to book a site, rowdiness, now a lot of theft) we are liking FQ more and more as our favorite Disney resort.
It has the feel of the Fort of bygone days.
It's just a real relaxing atmosphere, and they have a lot of activities that aren't crowded and you don't have to worry about getting run down by an underage golf cart driver.

Not much of a TR, but I thought I'd put out there the scavenger hunt and the keep right poles.

Sounds like my organization.  Don't tell the manager that things are going down the crapper, she has more important things to take care of... like telecoms all day long further tying up her managers so they can't manage either!

Years ago they did one in downtown Tampa of an office building.
I convinced my wife to go over her protests that it was going to be lame and no one will be there.
We got there and it was party central.  There were thousands in the streets jockeying for a good vantage point.
    It was a great show.
Maybe Disney will come up with a Demo Dessert Party!!

    They supply the shirts.
Don't remember exactly but I think around the $10 range give or take a couple of dollars either way.

And just saw this in the fine print
On Monday, October 30, there will not be a Movie Under the Stars, Chip ‘n Dale Campfire and Sing-A-Long due to alternative Halloween activities. See reverse side for details

It is now - it wasn't then!  Our dd was 3 and trained (not wearing pull ups or anything) when, while IN the loading station and next to get on the ride, she starts saying she has to go.  We ask her if she can wait and she says yes.  30 seconds later, it's everywhere!  They had to evacuate and close that side of the loading station, move the entire group to the other side, get someone to come to a full clean-up, etc...  Meanwhile, my wife is running off to the bathroom to clean her up while I am still standing in the midst of all of the people with our 4yo dd (and 8m old son) so that she doesn't miss the ride!

We are getting far off of the Hurricane Irma topic, but this is an interesting issue to me, so one more thing.
I've shared before that Mrs. TCD is a pre-school teacher.  She teaches 4 year olds, and has done it for years. Every year, after the first few weeks of school, she does an assessment to see where the kids are.  It is a sad phenomenon that kids know less and less basic information each year.  You would think that with all the technology out there, they would have some kind of advantage.  But, the opposite is true.  Kids do not know their ABC's.  They especially do not know how to write, or even color.  They've never heard of nursery rhymes of songs like the ABC song that we probably all knew.  There are some that don't know how to hold a pencil or crayon to even try to write their names- not even the first letter.  And, she teaches at a school where the parents are affluent and have good jobs.  They just don't spend any time working with their children on basic skills.  Very sad.

But that's how society as a whole is progressing.
Computers/smart phones can be a blessing or a curse.
Remember when computers were going to make jobs easier and cut down on your workload and hours spent at work?
All they did was add more work.
People are getting so wrapped up in artificial worlds they no longer enjoy whats around them.
Wait until they come up with a food synthesizer ala The Jetsons, people will never leave home!

FL has been losing their orange groves at an accelerated rate over the last few years.
It's sad driving down back country roads that used to have miles of productive groves on either side, and now see either subdivisions or withered dead trees.
But hey we can always get our OJ from Brazil!
    Another American commodity outsourced!
Who needs those dirty smelly factory workers and truckers.  Everyone needs college degree.  Just ask the Humanities Major that  served you  your $8 Starbucks coffee!

Nice, but I still miss the days when you could go to the Settlement trading Post, order a couple of sandwiches freshly made from the deli along with giant pickles and decent salads, grab a $1.25 can of beer a couple of sodas, and go down to Clementine's Beach and enjoy a picnic lunch while the kids played on the beach and in the water.
Probably 1 drink at this new place costs more than our entire meals used to.

Busch Gardens and Sea World were offering BOGO tickets.  They immediately got slammed for not offering a better discount, "we will have to buy food, pay for parking, etc", whine whine...
Winn Dixies are giving out 40 pound boxes of ice tomorrow are certain locations.
Chik Fil A as soon as they opened offered free ice and would fill up water jugs.
Some micro breweries were offering the same, filling up jugs with filtered water.
A Wal-Mart in Clearwater set up tables and chairs and microwaves in their entrance are for shoppers to cook food they purchased if they didn't have electricity.
A Big Lots somewhere in the Tampa area set up free food lines in their parking lot yesterday for people without power and first responders/linemen.
Lots of good will out there, which will hopefully offset the scum that are looting boarded up homes or posing as utility/city workers and robbing people when they answer their doors.

They should take one of the numerous empty EPCOT buildings and turn it into a giant International Food Court!
They could rotate the menus based on what the themes are, Art Show, Garden, Food and Wine, Christmas (yes I said the C word).
Imagine how much more food and drink they could sell if people only had a little ways to walk to each booth, it was nice and cool, they had places to sit and relax and stuff their faces in comfort without trying to eat and balance their food and drink while sweating up a storm !
