That's one of the biggest problems with this virus, so many people have possibly had it, currently have it, and it was so mild or they are asymptomatic that they may have been spreading it and not even known it.

They are just now looking at people that were sick in the US back in October and November thinking they may have had mild cases back then and no one knew what it was.

I know someone that a good chunk of their office was sick with similar symptoms to Covid/flu back in November, they were told it wasn't the flu and to just take OTC meds and rest.  Drs. didn't know what it was.

Of course it's been around longer... we discussed this several weeks back.  What this shows us, is that this virus is not as dangerous as we were told.  Knowing that it's been circulating, that it's infected more than originally thought and thousands more have survived... it shows that this virus does not warrant the control that is being placed on the American people.  The list is SO long.  The economic devastation that has caused an increase in depression and suicides, domestic abuse has spiked, substance abuse has increased, the diseases that have not been treated because they were not "essential" (my sister-in-law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about 6 weeks ago, but she has been "on hold" because they consider the surgery to try to remove the cancer as non-essential).  Folks have been feared into not going to the hospital, even though heart attacks, strokes, the rest of life's ugly sicknesses are still happening.  Schools are a hot mess.  Education budgets are blown and reduction will be made because there is no money.... yet there's a bill on table to monitor, test and quarantine the American people from this virus, at the tune of $100 BILLION per year.  I mean... the list goes on an on.  It's insane.

I see the masks being worn simply protect the people that have to work in the store in case YOU have it. I don't want to be so selfish that I won't think of the people who are working to provide food and services for us when they may be scared to even go to work.

Does having to wear a shirt in the store strip your liberties?

If so let's go topless for COVID!

Where does the sex trafficking come in?

    Are you ok?

Ah... see, I love it when people call those who don't want to wear a mask, selfish.  And then to equate it to wearing a shirt is even better.   Sure, you wearing your mask will make all the difference;  please feel free to fill that way.  Again, never before have we been required to wear masks and yet, pathogens have always been around.  What it does, is help you feel as though you're doing something, which is fine and you are welcome to make that choice.

If I have to explain how reducing the level of requirements for those individuals who will be in charge of the children forcibly removed from family's homes (love how you skipped over that part), how that will contribute to the number of children who are kidnapped and placed into the ring of sex trafficking... then I truly cannot help you.

Cloth masks are a joke. Virus size makes cloth look like a screen door. If you're not wearing a properly fitting N95 or P100 respirator you are fooling yourself, IMO. When I go to the store at least 25% of the people wearing masks have their nose exposed.

Not only are they worn improperly (either by being too loose, not covering the nose, people bringing their hands up and touching them constantly to readjust them),  but studies show that they carry more germs than they help prevent.  More people will get sick from wearing them (let alone sick from not boosting your  immune system as our immune system was designed to interact with pathogens).

IMHO. They should open the parks to people who are willing to sign a liability waiver and give employees the choice of whether to work or not.  And provide masks, and EDUCATION to all arriving guests.

Agreed.  Then again, I think this is where we should be, with the entire country. Those governors who are keeping their states closed, it's about control and the amount of damage that they are doing is immense.  This is a virus, people understand that; citizens need to be allowed to make their own choices.

I don't understand why people are losing their damned minds over what amounts to temporary measures intended to keep us all safe, including (and maybe especially) the people showing up to work in these places - which right now amounts to risking your health for the sake of your job.

Because it's not about the mask, Mo.  I know you have to understand that.  I don't wear a mask.  Never have, nor do I have any plans to.  This includes not going back to Costco (until they remove the mask requirement)  for which we've been a member of for 25+ years (before it even was Costco as I'm from the PNW).    We've always had viruses, yet never have we been required to wear a mask.  Even the CDC and Surgeon General didn't require masks, until a few weeks ago when (in my opinion) we started to get a better grasp on what this virus was and confirmation on who it was truly affecting, at that point Americans started to panic a little less and started to push for things to open back up.   At that point, the decision came down, that the general public should be wearing masks.  All this does in bolster fear as folks believe they need a mask, to be safe.  This simply is not true... or if it is true, why has it not been suggested (or required) earlier as our country has experienced some brutal flu season that cost America many lives... and those lives were across the board on the demographics, not primarily focused on one group (thus making it easier for a sector of the population to choose to isolate).  As for the argument that I hear some say, well the flu is not an aerosol transmitted pathogen, of course it is.  Even our government recognizes this.  My favorite argument for the differences between SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza, is that 80% (or more) of individuals who contract this current coronavirus, either have mild or no (they are asymptomatic) systems.  All this does, is reinforce that fact that this virus is of no treat to a majority of the population.... which goes back to my original point, Mo.  People are not "losing their damned minds" over wearing a mask, they are angry over the amount of control being enforced and they... we... should be.  In my home state of Washington, the governor has announced that starting this week, he is implementing mandatory testing.  A policy that he is carrying out with such force, that he has the National Guard ready to step in and enforce his rule.  If necessary, they will go door to door.  If you test positive, he says he will remove people from their homes so that they can be forced to isolate at a location that the State of Washington has created.  There are facilities already set up.  They will removed children from homes and place them under the custody of DCYF.  Could you imagine?!   They come to your home, test you, you are positive for this virus (but have no symptoms because most people do not) and they take your children.  Not only are that doing that, but because they are expecting to take so many children and they are in a rush to find adults to watch these babies, the governor has waived requirement for this care givers.  Here is what the proclamation states:

"Waiving licensing requirements for healthcare workers
This proclamation waives requirements necessary for health care workers to remain licensed to practice in the state, including ongoing training and continuing education requirements. These waivers will deliver much needed relief to an increasingly taxed health care system, allowing workers to focus on providing care to Washingtonians during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Waiving requirements for child care and background checks
This proclamation waives several requirements for licensed childcare workers, including requiring federal fingerprint background checks before completing the licensing process. This responds to an increased need for childcare during the COVID-19 emergency, increasing availability by allowing workers to be more easily licensed to provide care to those who need it."

Fantastic, right?  This should be real good, for the sex trafficking business.  Please do not tell me that this is not happening, the hell it's not.   My family is still in Washington, my friends are still in Washington.... they.are.fighting.... because this is happening.

We all should pray, that we don't have a loved one get sick.  Not only did 1.4 million health care workers loose their jobs in April (which means we should hope that someone, who is qualified, is there to help us if we need it), but family is not allowed in the hospitals.  Two conversations I had recently:  a girl whose grandmother passed away; her grandparents had been married for over 50 years and her grandfather was not allowed in the hospital.  Could you imagine?  You've done this life, with your person, for over 50 years and you're not there there to make sure that they are not in pain, that they are not scared, that they are not... alone.  You don't get to say goodbye, to the person that you've. done. life. with.   They are ALONE.   Another woman who I spoke with, her closest friend just lost their grandbaby.  They were not allowed in the hospital.  They had to stay outside in the parking lot, while their grandchild was inside.. dying.  THIS IS NOT OKAY.  But his is what fear does.  The same fear that tells everyone they must wear a mask, is destroying our country... and not from the deaths is causing, but from the liberties that are being stripped.  It needs to stop.

The world revolves those special people that don't have to follow rules.

Partly due to the so called "leaders" we have with the one saying people who defy the rules are A-OK in his book.

And the other problem is stores that are afraid of offending customers and then being bad mouthed by them.  That isn't anything new, but now is the time they can crack down and make the people toe the line.

I was at Costco two days after they posted their rules that everyone needs a mask to shop.  Guy walks up with two women, the women had masks, he didn't .  Worker told him he had to wear a mask, gave him a disposable one, and told him next time to bring his own. What are the odds he does the same thing next time...

The tough part is, for some masks are truly very tough (if not impossible) for them to physically wear.  I understand that Disney is a theme park so (unlike a market, where you need to go buy food), you don't need to go there.  But, such a bummer if you have a family where maybe only 1 or 2 members would have an issue with the mask.  For some folks, a Disney vacation is a once in a lifetime and they've been planning it for a long time.  Personally, I think the idea of wearing a mask at Walt Disney World is going to pose a risk for a lot of folks.... at least during the really hot and humid days.  I mean, how many times do we hear (or see) someone needing help because they are suffering from heat exhaustion or heat stroke.  Wearing a mask would have to exacerbate that.   I don't see any good coming from that policy, if they enforce it.  But, that's just my opinion.

Well, I think DIT meant it.  Word is he sold his camper too.  I wonder if Disney will reduce pricing now that not many can afford these prices and many will be too afraid to go into a crowded park?

I can't imagine Disney ever reducing AP tickets.  Even IF crowds are low (which is a big IF) once the parks reopen, Disney's prices are so high... that the mouse always comes out ahead.

Yes, the did sell their MOHO.

Construction is still going on..  There are links posted where they are still building Reflections and when we were out you could see crews on various construction sites.

Fantastic.  I thought I had asked and was told, no.  Good to hear that they continued to work.  It didn't make a lot of sense... actually, it would seem easier to work with everything empty.

, signing a waiver that you can't sue if you get infected while at the park, and so on.

This right here, is what I think it boils down to.  The same reason construction did not continue inside the parks (even though proper distancing should have been possible).  Disney has deep pockets and someone will sue if they get sick.

  9. Florida is loosing huge amounts of money, by these parks being closed.  Now that states are starting to open back up, it will be interesting to see how long they stay closed.  I'm sure they'll position it the best they can, to get federal aid.  Gotta love the monopoly money our government prints up.  Mercy...

This will be the youngest grandsons first time.  Their Dad is an active duty Marine and they were stationed at Camp Pendleton 4 years ago.  When they were, they went quite often.  The now 6 year old doesn't remember going, so this will be like her first time.  Since they are back on the east coast, we have gone to Disney World many times.  My daughter and son in law got married at Shades of Green.  This is the first surprise trip that we have taken.  Hopefully it all works out.

I hope they open back up for you ❤️

They stopped all construction projects.  Can’t believe those castle painters couldn’t keep 6 feet apart.

See... I just don't get that.

We've only done one day at the parks (MK) in the past 18 months, but before that had APs back to back and I remember often walking around thinking that some areas looked really sad.  They just needed a good scrubbing, a few boards replaced, some new paint... nothing huge or too terribly expensive, just a little work that (I figured) was tough to do with the parks busy every. single. day.    Now they've been empty for days and days and no work is getting done?  That would be a shame :(

  12. On a different note... anyone taking bet if Disney is doing work while the parks are closed down?  I mentioned earlier that I hoped they used this time to do some repairs and much needed cleaning/facelifts in certain areas.  The parks are huge and they could easily keep employees several feet apart.    It would seem like such a good time to tackle some of these projects.

    Guess time will tell...

I'm also seeing too many people sharing b.s. "cures" on social media, that and random posts from someone they don't know whose cousin's uncle's neighbor's dentist's sister-in-law's massage therapist, a reported expert in pandemics, has a laundry list of completely inaccurate "facts" about COVID19.  The one I saw yesterday (shared by a family member) claimed that taking a few sips of water every 15 minutes will wash the virus into your stomach where your natural stomach acid will kill it.

Um... that is NOT a thing. 5 seconds on Google debunked that one (and a bunch of others) from an actually reliable source. And sharing stuff like that will only make all of this worse if people believe it and do stupid things that will help spread this. In this case this was someone who is smack in the demographic of people likely to be the worst effected by the virus, and who was still having regular random visitors to their home until we nagged the bejinkies out of them and got them to understand that social "obligations" can wait for a few weeks.  (sigh)

Haha... maybe not a thing, but it did make me laugh 😄

Yes it makes better sense but not for what they think is better reading or adding to the hype, that's what makes thing worse!!!!

Yep....  but isn't that the rub of social "media"?    Remember the Swine-Flu of 2009?  The country did shut down and it too was an aggressive pandemic.  In my opinion, the main difference is:  social media.   People panic.  I think fear is built into a human's DNA.  So any mention (truthful or not) of anything bad/fearful and that's what is heard, focused on and passed along for others to believe :(

We have reservations at Vero Beach DVC for next month for Easter week and are waiting to see if that will be affected as well. We have tickets for Cirque du Soleol that week as well, finally starting to get nervous over our plans :cantbelieveit:

Tom was supposed to wine and dine some clients at the Masters here in Georgia (over Easter weekend)... that was cancelled (or postponed...maybe).   That's an outdoor event, that is a month away.

I cannot fathom how individuals and businesses that depend on the thousands of WDW guests as customers will survive this.

Thousands will be bankrupt over this (not just WDW related).   Too many folks cannot work remotely (but there kids are home so they need to be home), too many are working at businesses whose doors will be closed, too many families live paycheck to paycheck, too many small business were barely making it before this.
