  1. From what I can see, the speedway is very man-hour intensive. Lots of CMs keeping things running, looking for trouble on the track, and managing the lines. Every business generally tries to minimize man-hours as labor is usually the most expensive cost to operating. I think WDW is overdue for a Cars Land like or better than Disneyland.
  2. Our daughters surprised us on one trip, and took us to the Yachtsman for an anniversary dinner. The meal was great, the waitstaff did a nice job making us feel special. But, the highlight of this dinner outing occurred later, after the meal. On this trip, we were staying at the WL. After dinner, we caught the bus for the MK bus area, to transfer to a WL bus. We were dressed up (for us) and the driver noticed. She asked why we were so dressed, and we told her about our anniv. She then called dispatch, and drove us directly back to the WL without any stops (no other pass. on board). What a
  3. Thanks for the replies so far. We probably won't cook while on the trip, but I appreciate the "few beers" part. Liberty Tree Tavern is our favorite in the MK, so that is a distinct possibility. I appreciate the help.
  4. Perhaps you thought of this, but when you plan your park day, try to do everything in one area of the park before moving on to another area in the park. You can spend a lot of time going back and forth between different areas. For certain attractions in EPCOT and the MK, there can be very long wait times. If you don't have a fast pass, come back at a different time to get in line rather than waiting. You can spend hours just waiting for some attractions. Try to get fast passes for the "must do" attractions you are interested in seeing.
  5. We have booked a cabin at the Fort for next Thanksgiving. We are seeking suggestions and/or experiences for a really nice Thanksgiving dinner on property. Thoughts? Thank you.
  6. We buy some WDW gift cards before leaving home, and use those instead of Credit/Debit cards. We never give out our CC info. to be placed on the Magic Bands. BTW, for every $50 in gift cards I buy, we get 10 cents off a gallon of gas. There have been times that we have been able to fuel up the RV for free, up to 30 gallons, upon our return home. Something to look into if that is offered in your neck of the woods.
  7. I feel bad for our southern friends. At least up here, most know how to deal with it. Seven degrees here now, but sunny. Best piece of advice I can offer is, stay off the roads until the snow/ice is gone. If you do need to go out, take a blanket, food (like pop tarts), and something to drink if case you get caught up in a traffic problem. Good Luck.
  8. Before going over to the Fort, call ahead to see if your cart is ready. Sometimes they are ready in the late morning and sometimes not until 1:00 pm. If not ready until later, consider going over early and have a nice breakfast at the Trail's End and/or check out the barn, horses, and other animals at TCD ranch area. Have fun.
  9. I think the idea is OK because most folks won't get falling down drunk at a restaurant. However, over at EPCOT during Food & Wine, I have seen people falling down, and one puking in the bushes. Not pleasant especially when you are with your family.
  10. Our family won't use the park to park vans for a price. Luckily, at this point, we are still pretty mobile and don't mind waiting/bussing/walking around. However, this van service will be used probably by those who are less able. Folks who have various medical conditions or their children who might benefit greatly from the service. Too bad Disney doesn't offer this service to those folks at little or no cost. Yep, I know ...
  11. We use the car rental place on WDW property. We did not shop comparison. Our daily rate was cheaper than renting a golf cart for the day.
  12. Know the capacity of your tow vehicle. Are you near maxed out? Do you have some extra capacity? If in doubt about the higher mountains, plan your trip to the degree possible, to avoid the higher grades. I believe there is a book published called the Mountain Directory (west) for sale at many truck stops that gives good info. regarding roads and road-grades. Many RVers out west use this. It will help your planning. Good luck and have a fun trip.
  13. We booked late a couple of years ago. Ended up with Mon. through Thursday at the Fort, weekend at the Wilderness Lodge & parked there, back to the Fort again for Mon. through Saturday am. Tried to leave the RV at the Fort parking area, but Fort CMs would not allow. Had to take the rig to the WL. Worked fine.
  14. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. Many of our friends from New England traveling south to Florida will avoid I 95 in the north. They usually take I 84 east to Scranton PA, then get on I 81 south to I 77 south to Columbia SC. Then get on I 26 to I 95 south. This bypasses the big cities and traffic and tunnel restrictions and allows a more calming drive (relatively speaking). Often, we will stop at the halfway point of our drive just south of Charlotte at the Fort Mill KOA. There is a huge new Publix next door for getting supplies if necessary, and a couple of gas stations nearby.
  15. 700 bucks could buy 5 nights at the Fort, or about 7 really nice meals at a sit down, air conditioned restaurant. Decisions...decisions. I think we won't be renting park time at the tent.
  16. Renting the golf cart and looping is one of the best ways to scope out the various sites. Have your significant other record several different sites and loops that would work for you. Remember, when making reservations, you can request a specific site, but your requests are not guaranteed. So, having several loops/sites in mind is a good option. Also, when checking in, if your site is not available, you can request to see the notebook the cast members have that show the various loops and sites to make the best decision on your part. Have Fun!
  17. This DVC member thinks he knows at least one reason why Disney is expanding its offerings. DVC members pay for the buildings no matter who stays there. Our annual fees include pro rata share of replacing carpet, furnishings, infrastructure, property taxes, and even the roofs. So, Disney's operating cost and upkeep for each structure is dramatically reduced. And, in terms of moola, Disney doesn't care who is forking out the cash for the nightly room rate, DVC or not. So, when a DVC property is compared to straight out Disney property ownership, DVC should provide a larger net income to the
  18. As noted above, request your sites now, even though you are likely not to get what you asked for. Once you arrive at check in, do not merely go along with the CM's assignment. Ask to see the notebook that has site plans for each loop in it, and make your selection from that. You will have a better understanding where in the loop your site is located and have some idea if you have a better or worse approach to backing in. Good luck and have fun.
  19. We were in the 300 loop last month. We requested a site near the comfort station, and the site we were given was not far from the CS, however the trail to get there was through the woods and swampy water, covered with tree shavings. While this was OK for us, it probably would not work well for a motorized scooter. Make sure that the cast member who assigns your site at check in understands that you need to be near a PAVED path to the comfort station. Have a great trip.
  20. After booking your reservation for your site, sit down with family/friends to work out a possible schedule for your time at WDW. If time permits, try to take a day to enjoy the offerings of the Fort as well. Once, you have an idea of where you will be on what day, look at the restaurants. If you are thinking about a sit-down type meal (including Trail's End at the Fort), make a dining reservation. You have up to 24 hours in advance to cancel if plans change, or you will incur a no-show charge. Consider that you will likely be hot and tired as the day progresses, so an AC-cooled dining exp
  21. As of last week, there was a similar hunt going on at EPCOT. It was find Remy, the rat from ratatouie (sp?), in 10 locations I believe. Have a great time on your trip.
