  1. I just got a chance to check in and I really appreciate the comments. I think the most important thing you can do is realize that camping with the family and trips to the Fort are a finite resource. Enjoy them to their fullest while you are in them. On one hand, I am sorta glad that I wasn't they only one going through this but on the other, sad for anyone that reaches this point. We all wish it would have lasted just a little bit longer. I still harbor plans to someday steal my grandchildren and take them to the Fort! :clint: Always gotta have a future trip to look forward too...LOL
  2. Dave, This topic hit me squarely between the eyes. I haven't been posting much lately as two of my favorite things have been absent from my life for over a year or longer now. Fort Wilderness and Camping! Sadly, I think it is over but I didn't even realize it until after it had already happened. There are a number of definitive reasons and some that are harder to define. #1 - My kids outgrew it. Oh, they still love camping but with one about to graduate from college, another graduating from high school and my baby now a sophomore in high school they are just focused on all the activit
  3. I actually did have a situation where I bought a diesel but preferred gas. I was in the in-between weight of a 1500 vs 2500 and went with the 08' Ram diesel 2500. Problem was that I only drive 5 miles to and from work and the truck would barely warm up by the time I would reach the office. This is suicide for a diesel and especially so for the newer generation with the increased emissions. If you keep the truck primarily for towing or your daily drive has significant distance and speed, then it shouldn't be an issue. Also, my truck was virtually no different in mileage towing or not compa
  4. Actually, they used to have campsites but closed that part of the park down a couple years back.
  5. Congrats Jason and Sil... Wishing you many happy magical camping memories!
  6. From the Atlanta area as well. You will love Georgia State Parks as well as Army Corps of Engineers Campgrounds (most of the lakes - Allatoona, Lanier, etc). Many waterfront, and well suited to pop-ups. Also, much cheaper than KOA's in general. It is hard to replicate the Fort.
  7. We actually watched them taping an episode on one of the MGM sound stages....back in the day
  8. Thanks a bunch Dave and TCD, I didn't even know TCD went cruising and he cost me money. We are heading out on the Dream for 3 nights in a few weeks. Oh yea BDD, we are hooked also, I just can't figure out how to win the lottery to go on a 7night.
  9. Had my head down but couldn't miss an opportunity to chuckle at Dave. Especially at the hand of Lou.
  10. We are probably going to NOJ. Is anyone getting group tickets? We would like to join in with anyone that may be purchasing as a group to get the extras (early admission and water park/Disney Quest fun visit) + being a bit cheaper. We are heading down to celebrate our anniversary.
  11. Wow Dave, so sorry to hear about your furry loved one. I remember when our pup died you said you knew it wouldn't be that much longer for Daisy. Prayers and thoughts are with you and the family as you deal with the loss.
  12. I have spent several weekends with scouts on the USS Yorktown in Charleston and the USS Alabama in Mobile. The Lex looks like it would be a neat trip. Have to put it on my list. Although I really enjoyed visiting these ships, I have no interest in ever spending the night on one again....LOL
  13. It was great "running" into you at the 5K. I had heard from a source that you may be there so I was on the lookout. I figured I would wear my Fort shirt in case there were any fiends around. It was the first time I had worn the shirt because when I had bought it I weighed about 70 pounds more! I was so worried about the pace requirement and I should have realized that it was no big deal. Great to see you guys there and can't wait to do another one!
  14. Sorry we weren't able to meet up with you guys. If you had made it to DTD, we could have met with you. We were at a hotel so getting over to POR would have probably taken more time than you were there. We ended up just heading back to DTD and eating at Wolfgang Puck's express. Excellent dinner as usual. I guess we will just have to wait until SMGG.. See ya then. Kelly was not at all happy about skipping POR.
  15. Totally agree, we weren't too sure about it beforehand but it was wonderful!
  16. Gonna miss seeing you guys this year...Ready to return in 2013!
  17. First time in five years we aren't going to be at Disney (DL, DCL or WDW), Yes i am in major withdrawal!
  18. Disneyland never had the 20,000 leagues version. They had the Nautilus but it was the US Navy's (first atomic sub) as well as several others (Patrick Henry, George Washington, Skipjack). When I was a kid I always wanted to ride the Nautilus. The ride though was essentially the same. Not sure if it had the giant Squid but I think it did. The new version with Nemo just really did the character overlay and painted the subs to be a tourist voyage. They do have a 20K Nautilus walk through in Disneyland Paris as much of their Tomorrowland has a Jule Verne theme. Also, they do have one of the su
  19. No comment but my mind be a wandering.....just saying :clint: Great report - looks like a great time. We are itching to get over to those parts some time but fall is always a bad time for us with marching band.
  20. That there is funny :rofl2: Maybe I should trademark CPF.net
