Seals got a reaction from Avatab.... Steve in Black Friday at Disney Springs
We spent Black Friday 2013 at Downtown Disney. We were staying at the Dolphin and played mini golf in the afternoon. We were trying to decide what to do that evening and decided to go to the theater at Downtown Disney to see the new Disney movie that had just come out. The movie was called Frozen.  We took the bus and walked through the mobs from the far bus stop to the theater only to find out the only show with tickets left was at 10 pm. It was about 6 pm. We walked back through the mobs and waited in line for ages at Earl of Sandwich. Sat wherever we could find a seat to eat.  Fought our way back to the buses to find that they were all backed up because they couldn't get out of the bus loop because of traffic. Finally got on a bus and as we sat there not moving everyone was watching an extremely drunk guy who was being talked to by two police officers. The guy suddenly leaned over the railing near the bus.  I yelled "cover your eyes." The rest of the bus yelled "ewwwwwww."  Our bus driver finally got us out into traffic and asked 3 times if anyone needed to go to the other bus stop at Downtown Disney. No one did so she got in the middle lane and we zoomed past all the traffic finally back to our hotel. Never again!

No one is forcing anyone to hand out candy at the Fort on Halloween. It’s not a required part of your stay.  People are undertaking it themselves because they want to.  And if they’d stop, there would still be people coming to see the decorations and the costumes, but not nearly as many. What would happen if the CAMPERS asked to see proof that someone was staying there before they gave out candy.  You have to have your site number written on your Magic Band.  Or had some other requirement.  We have a neighbor who is known for giving out full size candy bars for Halloween. But first, the child must recite a Bible verse. As far as I know, that’s perfectly legal.  Halloween candy is not a right. And the Fort Trick or Treating is not an official WDW activity.  If it were, THEY would be providing the candy.  I think an organized group of people could help shut it down, although it would take a few years for word of mouth to get around about how stingy the campers had become. Unfortunately, one can’t do the same with the pool.
It's like feeding the alligators and then wondering why they keep coming back.

So they tell people to stay in their rooms and the ones who don't get characters and candy. Nice lesson.

I'm loving it. Thanks for sharing the photos of the progress. Lego does have pretty good instructions. Congratulations for seeing the value of the experience you are creating vs. the cost ("Remember that time we got up at 6:30 and stood in line at the Lego store to get that awesome castle with 4080 pieces?"). Just keep building... Just keep building...

I don't even get people who feed seagulls. Who wants those nasty things swooping all around them. And then no one can eat on the beach without them appearing. Do people really think these animals would starve without their assistance? Is the entertainment value really that great?.

Too many people, not just truck drivers, ignore the rules of merging onto a highway. It's very scary. And I guess relates to the "me" world we live in.
Nice campsite set up. And funny how you couldn't get the campsite because they were saving it for you.

Seals got a reaction from Caroline in Anchors Away! The TCD Gang Has Another Dream (cruise)
We walked to and through the Nassau Hilton on our December 2014 Wonder cruise. The hotel lobby was nice to look at but I wasn't overly impressed with the beach and pool area to make it worth the day pass price. We felt compelled to get off the ship both times we were in Nassau and walked one direction to a fort the first time and the other direction to another fort the second time. Both times we were antsy to get back on the ship after a few hours. It just wasn't relaxing.  On our first cruise there were only two other ships docked in Nassau and not next to us. The second cruise I got up early on Nassau morning to go in the adult hot tub and was lounging there by myself when I turned around and another ship had docked right next to us. There were a  bunch of people looking out toward our ship and therefore me. It was strange after the isolation of our day at sea the first day.

Seals got a reaction from Beckers in Fort kiddie pool closing??
Thanks for recommending those comments. I think my favorite was:  "There have been reports of gators coming into the Disney pools at night. Disney has crews that find and remove them, but obviously they are erring on the side of caution after this."
As if you couldn't see a gator BETTER in the kiddie pool than in a regular pool. Such logic...

Yes, I think stay out of the water is much clearer than no swimming. Along with a specific alligator warning.  Ironically, I always feared letting my kids go in the ocean if there was any possibility of undertow. But I wouldn't have thought about wading at the edge of a lake at Disney without a stronger warning than "no swimming."

But, unlike hotel rooms that would need some level of heating/cooling and dusting if they sat empty for a length of time, there's no cost to having empty campsites. And then if they could accommodate even more people ($$) during busy times it would be profitable IF those campers otherwise would be staying offsite or not visiting at all.

Seals got a reaction from djsamuel in Are you looney and like to go on peak days? Here are some tips for you!
Eat during non-standard hours. A few years ago at Easter they even were giving out %off Quick Service coupons if you ate lunch between like 11-12 and dinner 3-4 or something like that. Added bonus was that those weren't busy times so we got our food a lot quicker and were able to find a table.

I really really appreciate the thought you put into my question. It sounds like it may be best not to risk it, though.  I actually went ahead and made the resort reservation as I'm less sure that camping would work out and I hated to lose the price for the resort that would work best for us with 5 people (All Star Movies family suite).  It seemed more probable that a campsite would be open later on if I decide to switch. Thank you again for being so helpful.

Usually most of my $ has gone to the visit so I don't spend a lot on souvenirs. But I like things I can see every day to remind me of my visit. I usually get a magnet for the refrigerator with the year on it, one or more of those expandable washcloths (they call them towels but they're small) and my refillable mug. I also have a small collection of pins that reflect something I particularly enjoyed on each visit.
