Friday, 9/9:
After breakfast at TE, we went to Animal Kingdom.  Our first encounter was with DeVine.

Next up was the Safari.  I think we saw the most animals we've ever seen.  And a first, I actually saw the lion's face.

Then we walked the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail.

Last was a visit to Finding Nemo.

After AK we made a WalMart run, back to Dolly for dinner, and then off to MK for ice cream.  

On our way out of the MK I spent too much money at the Pandora store.  
Pain-wise this was a good day.  The weather was great -- only a few sprinkles.

I also back up my pictures to an external hard drive.  But I also back everything up online to Carbonite.  It's only around $59 a year and is great insurance.  I've had to retrieve all my files from them once when I had a hard drive failure.

Saturday, 9/10:
After a light breakfast in Dolly, we went to MK.  Buzz, PeopleMover, Pooh.  Then we went to Cosmic Ray's and split a Greek salad:

It was better than it looks.
After lunch we rode 7DMT.  I tried to get a picture of the witch, but all I got was her basket:

The castle was looking good (except for the crane):

The crane was holding up a bucket with workers who were painting the roof and installing the Christmas lights:

I tried to get artsy with this next shot, but I finally realized I would have to lay on the ground to get it ilke I wanted it.  So I gave up.

What a small world!  We met a couple who live about two miles from us and are good friends with our ex next-door neighbors of 30 years.
Finally we headed back to the Fort.

It was so hot that day!  The heat bothered me more than usual.  My ankles and feet were really swollen.  But it was still a great day.

I decided a long time ago that I wouldn't d a formal trip report for this visit.  Our trip would be too long, and you all have seen hundreds (if not thousands) of my photos.
But I'll catch us up now and hopefully will be able to keep up as our trip progresses.
Many of you know that our dear Mini Schnauzer, Kassie, passed away on Father's Day.  We knew this trip would be difficult without her.  She loved camping, looping, etc.

We spent a few days packing the moho and kept feeling her absence.  She wasn't there running up and down the hall in excitement.  We fired up the moho and she wasn't there jumping up and down saying "take me, take me!"  Life was different.
We left home on Saturday, September 3, as soon as we were sure Hurricane Hermine had passed through our travel area   Due to the DVTs I developed on our last trip we decided to spend two nights on the road.  My doctor put me back on Xarelto and gave me strict orders to stop every hour or two to walk around.
So we drove 260 miles the first day and stopped at Cracker Barrel in Walterboro, SC, for the night.  The next day we drove about 250 miles and overnighted at Flying J in St. Augustine.  
We arrived at the Fort on Monday morning (Labor Day) and were assigned to site 703.

TCD, guess who was parked right across the street from us.  We've avoided long conversations with him.

 
 
 
 

We will continue overnighting at Flying Js and Cracker Barrels.  We fuel up and eat there.

Everyone enjoy your vacations!  We're leaving home in about 15 minutes.  Florida, here we come!

OH NO Gwen!  I clicked the wrong square  I'm so sorry.  That was suppose to be an up arrow. 

One of my favorite pets was Carlou Dana Excelsia, my Great Dane.  She died in the early '80s from cancer..  I still remember how I put her in puppy obedience training and she pulled me across an entire football field.  Pets have such a way of touching our hearts for all eternity.    

What a great memory!  I really believe pets choose us as much as we choose them.

I think people are upset because:
1) Your first post on a board shouldn't be to complain.
2) You're threatening to make a stink about off-site rentals which will hurt lots of people... Not just Kenny.
I own my own now, so I don't rent from him, but I always had a good experience. I know he takes credit cards as payment, so why not just dispute the charge? If you never talked to him, how did you give the cart back? Just curious.

I understand that you are unhappy.  I also understand that you have been on every major internet outlet you can find to vent your frustrations and wow, that must have taken up quite a bit of your time.  However, over here, we value the sense of camaraderie that people have here first BEFORE deciding to vent.  I just hope that you remember all of these words you have in print all over the internet and I hope there is 100% truth to them.  Going after a business in public can be a very dangerous thing if you don't tell the truth and nothing but the truth.  I have no monkeys in this circus, trust me.  I am just cautioning the unwise. 

Had blood tests run last week ... 15 vials of blood.  My doctor saw something unusual in my clotting factor and had her assistant call me today to say I have to go back on Xarelto for the trip.  Have a consultation with doctor next Wednesday.
I'm disappointed that I have to go back on the medicine but relieved that I'll be protected during the trip.

I just don't like people who join a group for the sole purpose of bitching about their bad experience.  

Only 3 posts on this board and your expressed sole reason for joining is for bashing a well respected outside vendor.  Your line "I may even annoy Disney a bit about off property rentals" is really telling.  Are you the guy in charge of renting carts at the fort or is it one of your relatives who is a cast member in charge of the golf cart rentals?

According to Merriam Webster, Dictionary.com, the Cambridge English Dictionary, the Oxford dictionary, and the Collins Dictionary, a mug has a handle.  Therefore they are no longer mugs.

I believe it!  Motivation works miracles.  Our youngest was 3 and refused to be potty trained until he decided he wanted to go to the same school his siblings attended.  He had accidents the day before he started, but once that first day of school arrived he never had another one.

I know this has been discussed on various threads through the years ... wanted to start a thread for this topic specifically.
David and I have always traveled 500 miles toward the Fort the first day.  That left a couple of hours of travel the next morning, and we arrived at the Fort around 630 or 730 am the second day.
But last year I developed two DVTs in my left leg during our trip.  It was very painful.  I was on Xarelto for 7 months.  Just went off it a couple of weeks ago.  My doctor attributed it to sitting in the moho too long.  Like flying for hours without exercise.
I'm trying to convince David to break up our trip into segments of 250 miles per day or so.  That means 2 days and about 2 hours the third day to get to the Fort.  We would still go home in 2 days, a little over 300 miles each day.
Am I being unreasonable?

Good advice, Derek.  There's a campground in FL that we once considered staying at.  It looked good online and had great reviews.  We went to see it.  The only way we would have spent the night there was to sit in the front seats with guns in our laps.

Sorry, but that whole fried fish looks disgusting!
