  1. There's also the auto-train that would take you and a van half-way to Lorton VA, or maybe take AMTRAK all the way to Boston. I have heard the Acela is fast and comfortable. You would save the car rental too, the Train takes you into Boston, then the T to hotel and hospital, no need for a vehicle.
  2. Boston is getting just rain now and will not get much snow out of this storm, but nevertheless I agree w/ the van idea (or a class B?) for two reasons: One, Only one campground open this time of year that I know of, Normandy Farms, it is very nice, even has an indoor heated pool, etc. But it is in Foxboro, well outside the city. And Two, you do not want to drive a large RV in Boston, it's miserable enough trying to drive a car in the city.....
  3. I agree that Disney probably does quite well with the Campground, especially considering the lack of any real upgrades they have made in years (downgrades would be more appropriate...) I think they haven't expanded or built another campground because of attitude, not dollars. I believe that current management doesn't get "campers", doesn't want anymore of them, and if it were up to them FW would never have been built in the first place. They treat the place with a kind of benign neglect when possible. They don't know why anyone would ever come to their DVC paradise in an RV let alone a ten
  4. It's funny you should mention headlights..... that was our first indication of what we were in for. Went to get it inspected, highbeam bulb out, ok take it to our local garage, he calls and says he has "bad news"..... Can't replace just the bulb, you need to replace the entire headlight assembly since it is sealed. OK..... take it to VW garage (NOT dealer too expensive) he gets a USED one off Ebay for 700 dollars, YES SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for a USED headlamp assembly. Turns out it has motors and sensors and computer chips all permanently sealed inside somehow. We should have gotten
  5. Do NOT buy one! We had one and it was nice...... until something went wrong, then it was expensive to fix because of the electronics and/or the German over-engineering. .... Do a Google search on Touareg problems and VW's denials that anythings ever wrong with them... (try "touareg death lag" for starters) Our local garage, who will work on anything, has stopped working on VWs and refers people to the dealership.
  6. Same here. The shame of it is that it replaced Horizons, which not only fit the theme, I believe was the closest to Walt's original idea for EPCOT. It was basically an extension of COP and conveyed the same idea: "If We Can Dream It, We Can Do It" :) The amazing thing is that Horizons still has entire websites devoted to it... There's even a site that is building a virtual ride thru of it!
  7. Anything to get the message out: People are evil, Mother Earth is a victim of our evil-doing, and we all need to make amends no matter the cost...
  8. Seems like groups and freeloaders are big problems at FW. With just a little thought and effort by FW management both could be solved quite easily, mostly by a fair and common sense application of the rules. It is very discouraging when money is so obviously more important than the comfort of their other guests...
  9. Just a guess but since the quote refers to parents and children, and the statue looks right for a parent leading a child through the park, the size was meant to reflect that idea.... :)
  10. There should always be a Vehicle Identification Number and/or a manufacturers serial number. It is most often on a metal plate somewhere on the frame, or in the case of a motorhome on a sticker on or near the door. Once you have the number try doing a Google search with it, it's surprising sometimes what pops up..... :)
  11. The original theme for Future World was well though out. 8 Pavilions for Life, Sea, Land/Food, Energy, Transportation, Communication, and IMHO the two most important and forward thinking: Imagination, and Optimism for the Future (Horizons). A tour of Future World would give the average adult or teenager a good overview of human accomplishments thus far, and a hopeful glimpse of what could be.... it was by far my favorite part of Disney, and I was always grateful that they had the vision to create such an amazing place. A place that didn't require scaring you, throwing you around, or selling
  12. Too bad, it looks really great and has better prices by the sound of it, plus I love that retro 60's look and colors :) Cabana Bay Beach Resort http://www.orlandosentinel.com/travel/blogs/theme-park-rangers/os-universal-orlando-cabana-bay-resort-20140127,0,7502620.post
  13. I saw somewhere that Universal was opening a new value hotel with a 1960's Beach-Hotel theme, I believe it was called Cabana-something and it was already half-open with construction almost done on the other half?? What caught my eye was that it will have a lazy river and huge pool when it is finished :) :)
  14. Missed this thread the first time around, but I have to agree that EPCOT is not what it once was. I love the the World Showcase as is, but it still feels unfinished to me and could use a new country or two to liven it up. Future World in particular however has lost its focus and is trapped between remnants of its original "build on the past and hope for the future" theme and a half-hearted attempt to be a thrill-ride park...... If I had my druthers, I would like to see an updated Wonders of Life and a brand new Horizons. Both of those exemplified why Future World at EPCOT was so unique an
  15. It's funny you should say that, I was just reading a story on Yesterland about the original Fort Wilderness on Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland.... Disney built the actual Fort from real trees and had to eventually close it due to wood rot. So they built the one at Disneyworld out of plastic logs...... ! :) http://www.yesterland.com/fortwilderness.html
  16. Agreed. No question there are plenty of "Peters" at WDW as a whole. My comment was based on one of my many phone conversations during this ordeal where I got a mid-level person to admit that if my property had been damaged in a hotel, that Disney would "of course" reimburse me....! (IIRC, my example to him was an expensive camera that ceiling tiles had fallen onto) He went on to say that trees were different, and that even though they were owned by Disney, any damage caused by a tree falling was an "Act of God"..... To which I replied that if a tree at Epcot or the AK fell onto someone o
  17. Clearly this resort for wannabees, if they wanted a true 5 star they would have booked at the FIVE Seasons, hello!!
  18. Being the cynic that I am, my first guess is that Disney didn't send their Good Sam "membership check" out fast enough this year.....
  19. Since you asked....No, they didn't. I was ultimately told that FLA law absolves Disney from any "Acts of God" that occur on their property and that it was strictly between me and my insurance co. (one thousand dollar deductable...) I say "ultimately" because it took several days of phone calls and having to demand a meeting with the Fort manager (who lacked ANY people skills whatsoever) to get any straight answers from anyone...... It ended up costing me several thousand dollars, a ruined vacation, 2 weeks of time (it happened the first night we were there, and then I had to take anothe
  20. I see what you did there Several years ago we were camped in our new Class C on the 1900 loop and had a tree fall on the front bunk area, destroying the bed and crushing it down onto the hood. Thank God no one was in it at the time, anyone in the bunk would have been seriously hurt or killed. (FW worker bees were great to us, FW and Disney mngmt were awful but thats another post...) Shortly after that (within a few weeks) was when Disney started to slash and burn all the underbrush and "extra" trees at the Fort. We were told that the underbrush and heavy growth was causing the la
  21. This may have been discussed before but it seems like this is another sign of Disney ignoring or intentionally breaking with Walt's original idea of "leaving the real world behind". Just like the MK, the Fort and River Country were set up so that you would have to leave your car and take a journey into a different world..... train, tram, monorail, boat, etc. Now it appears they just want to build bus stops and parking lots right in the middle of the attractions. I know it makes sense dollar-wise, but do any of the current management/Imagineers see that was not the original intent? I ha
  22. Here it is: http://www.dailyfinance.com/2012/06/01/disney-world-scammers-scored-four-years-of-free-vacations/ They did it for FOUR YEARS!! :wave1: ".....They managed to pull off the scheme four years in a row by taking advantage of the park's reservation system loopholes. "Investigators found that the men would book hotel rooms with one credit card and then put down a second, pre-paid debit card with only a $1 or $2 on it to cover any charges to the room. They would then go out in the parks, bill everything to the room and take off before the charges caught up and employees found
  23. Didn't a couple of people get arrested last year for staying at WDW for over a year at different on-property hotels for a week or two at a time using stolen credit cards? I 'll see if I can find the news story about it....
