Old Fort Photo From Disney Parks Blog

Recommended Posts

The Disney Parks Blog posted a photo they say was taken at the Fort in 1984, and invited guests to provide a caption.

This is the photo:

I guess that could be somewhere in Fort Wilderness, but I'm not sure what is going on here.

Here's a link if anyone is interested in posting a caption. Looking at what's been posted so far, they could sure use the help:

I think that was on Discovery Island.

I think you're right.

Of course it could be somewhere at Fort Wilderness, and the blog says it is, but it doesn't look familiar. There was landscaping and pathways like shown in the photo on Discovery Island.

Plus there's a Castmember standing there looking at this scene. That looks like a Discovery Island costume, not a Fort costume. Of course, the DI CM could just be visiting the Fort.

Here's an old photo showing a DI CM in costume:

Once again our members know more about Disney than Disney. Did Disney consider DI part of FW?

That's a good question.

The logo on the DI costumes shown in these old photos included Musket Mickey, as did the River Country logo at that time.

As you may remember, River Country and Discovery Island tickets were sold from the ticket booth that still stands at the Fort, along the west edge of Clementine's beach. Access to DI was from boats that left from the Fort's dock. I believe that at one time boats also ran back and forth from the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge, but I'm not sure of that.

I wouldn't say that DI or River Country were considered to be part of Fort Wilderness. They were separate attractions with separate cost of admission.

I always thought they were separate attractions too. But does that mean the HDR or hay ride or carriage rides are not part of FW.
