fladogfan aka Gretchen reacted to Tri-Circle-D in How the Early Days of Euro Disney Affected WDW
It's an interesting article, but the author makes some giant leaps in logic to make his point.

I don't think Euro Disney is to blame for the mess that came out of the "Disney Decade," I think it's just another example of some poor choices made by Eisner and Co.  There were many, many bad choices made.

Also, I'm pretty sure that most of the money spent on Euro Disney came from third parties-so they were the ones who lost their shirts-not Disney.

I actually think it's a good thing a lot of this stuff never got built.  Dick Tracy's Crime Stoppers?  Oy!

But I do agree with Ray- a Matterhorn ride in Epcot would rock.

Since you can have a Disney wedding it doesn't surprise me that you could have pictures taken within the parks if you've paid enough money.

I might need to look into one of these devices that track my activity. I think it would be a good idea to know how many calories I need to drink each evening to replenish what I've lost :D

They should do more attractions like test track. It's a thrill ride yet it shows how the future of transportation is moving. I also think a parade would do wonders for the park. What it comes down to is people want thrill rides when they spend $100 on a day ticket. MK should stay the way it is. The place will over and over even make a 80 yo feel like a kid again but the other parks need to keep up

Really?  Only know what I was told, that the leaks were from 20,000 Leagues, never knew where I was under the park.  The food cast workers had to go to the tunnel for fresh costumes, back then we were not allowed to take them home (we had lockers to store them in) and we would eat in the cafeteria that was near the entrance, to the right as you walk in, if I remember correctly.  If we were OK for uniforms, we ate in the Center Building,  it's called something else now, which my brain has blocked.........   Is there still a cafeteria in that building?

The Central Food Facility building is used to store Christmas decorations these days.

According to a friend from Boston the correct way to use a round-a-bout is "NEVER" look at the other driver, act like you don't see them. He said his car has 100,000 miles on it with the original brakes, but he has replaced the horn 3 times.. :rotfl6:

Both came back seriously happy.  To tell the truth, neither of them had been thrilled to go.  They knew it was going to be hard work in 95% humidity and soaring temperatures.  All three of the offspring who went came back with injuries from working so hard.

But they came back thrilled with the friends they made in Belize and excited to go again next year.  My oldest, who you met at WWW, has been asked to consider moving there for a year or so to do an internship.  She just moved into her own apartment, so she is torn.

As far as laundry, they brought back a ton!  But I was so thrilled to have them home safe and somewhat sound that i didn't mind doing load after load of laundry for the next few days. :D

Being in a small hybrid I have come up with a few ideas, one of my favorite was taken from a hint list for cruising.   The walls of a cruise ship are metal and magnets work wonderfully there.  I used magnetic hooks  to hold up a shoe bag, the kind with 12 divided  slots.  Was great on the ship and when we headed out on this last camping trip I used the over the door hooks that came with it to hang it from the bathroom door.  Yes, shoes did go in it, but also shampoo, and spray bottles for cleaning, pocket books, my phone charged in it just fine overnight, even had a few empty pockets.  I have a hanging shelf from Ikea for paper plates, cups etc.  That hangs on the edge of the back bunk.  Has to come down while traveling or it tends to fall down.

The shower has proved to be too small for our body types and we put that space to work as a closet.  We use 4 of the plastic drawer units to store our clothes. The drawers are various sizes.   If we need to bring 'fancy' clothes there is a closet rod installed the length our the shower above the drawers.  DH built a wooden frame to hold the drawer units in place and as we all know ... bungie cords are our friends!!   As long as they are not forgotten we are good.

Last year we took the cat, 18y at that time, for her first camping trip.  The dogs camp with us, she was always scared left at home alone and all the other cats had gone on over the rainbow bridge, so we figured, if she was going to be scared camping, at least we would be with her.  She did great!!!  But did look for hidey holes to 'camp' out in.  She showed us so much wasted space that I now have plans to cut walls, install doors, etc and make use of the space.  Of course now we find our floor is falling apart under our feet, good thing about the vinyl flooring, sorta holding it together.  Guessing some, if not all, the cabinets will need to be removed, so will give us a good chance to make it better storage wise.  Guess I better start looking for videos of floor repairs others have already done, maybe we won't make all the same mistakes.

We are back from a 2+ week trip to VA and the cat...btw her name is Danielle...had not forgotten the hidey hole.  DH had put some hardware clothe over her hole and she kept trying to get it off.  She would also go to each of the vents she had peeked out of last year.  We did give her the underneath of the kitchen sink area for hiding.  She is a good sport.

1-  If any of you like to go to farmers Markets, the Winter Garden one on Saturday mornings,  8 or 9 am to 1-2pm  I usually go early to get a parking place without searching for one.  Lots of parking on both sides of market.
This FM has lots of things to look at and buy.  But 90% of my time I only go to buy fruit and vegies from Sally's Tomatoes.  It's the smaller stand run by an older couple (about my age).  They are very careful how they treat the food before selling it to you,  aka strawberries do not sit well in the sun and things like that. John is a fount of knowledge about the food they sell.  Last weekend they had fresh corn on the cob, tomatoes, peaches, cucumbers, oranges, egg plants (2 kinds), spaghetti squash, melons and more.

To get there do like Grumpy says, "Turn left on Vista Drive. Take it until it dead ends at 535 (ignore the company vehicles only sign, everyone does) "  at the T intersection, turn left onto 535.  It will seem far (I think it is about 10 miles-I will check on Sat.)  BUT on the left  you will pass the Publix (we call it the Reams road Publix :) that is not it's name but it is what we call it),  after a school zone 40mph, you come to a light controlled intersection.  You will turn left to stay on 535. (Just in case you need another shopping area there is a Publix and more shops if you go straight thru the intersection, they are  on the left.)  You are still on 535.  You will go under the bridge of 429 ( this is route I take to go around I-4 traffic to Longwood) but you  keep on 535, on the right will be a shopping center with all kinds of stores, Target on one end to Lowes on the other.  Lots of eating places in this stretch also.   Keep going on 535  PLEASE FOLLOW SPEED SIGNS I HAVE SEEN LOTS OF COPS CHECKING  it's 35mph in this area.  Keep going, pass over RT. 50  Go to a left turn . Now of course I do not know the name of the street, but it's past the Ace Hardware, down a few blocks and just after a vet's sign.  Also think they have signs for pubic parking.

There are lots of tents set up, with a wide selection of goods to buy.  There is a knife sharpener man who will work while you shop.  Flowers and plants, crafts.  FOOD to eat.  There is a large vegetable/fruit set up under the roof.  BUT  don't shop there until checking out Sally and John, they are set up under tents across from the big set-up.  Sally's tomatoes are so good, they are very picky about the quality of the food they purchase to sell.  Almost every time I'm there I hear someone say, "I only buy my tomatoes from Sally and John."

I know this sounds convoluted but they are good.  I think there is a Campers World west on RT. 50.

2- The Aldi's in Kissimmee is across 192 from the Wal-Mart.  Think there is a WaWa on corner also , same side as Aldi's..

3- That shortcut mentioned is also a good way to Outback Steak House.

4-  I mostly go to the Wal-Mart on Turkey Lake Road.  Yes the Dollar Tree in same side of road up just a little.  There is now a light to help traffic turning.

5- Also on most Mondays John and Sally set up on Turkey Lake Road just past the Post Office, same side of road.  Time is afternoon 4ish? to dark, weather permitting Usually don't have as big a selection as Saturday, but always have tomatoes.  Be careful parking, it's best to turn in and turn around to position yourself to be able to get out.   There are people who have no worry about blocking other cars.

6- NEVER buy gas at the station located at I-4 and 535.  They are always higher it was $4.19 yesterday.  Most local stations are in the $2.49 area.  Also Hess station on property has very reasonable prices, maybe a cent or two above off property.  They also have good pizza, don't deliver though.  I've noticed local Hess' have changed to Speedway, so don't know if these will change on WDW or not.

Don't know what's going one with the weather, climate change, mad scientist, etc (maybe old age and weight gain). but if you are heading to the Fort or anywhere at Disney watch out.

We are having mid Summer Florida weather right now.

Highs in the low to mid 90's sunny, humid, then a chance of rain.

We baked at the parks this past weekend, and we have been living down here since 78.

We had about a total of 6 days of Spring spread out over April, cooler temps, low humidity.

But we are getting hammered now.

So pack/dress accordingly, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, make Coppertone rich, wear a wide brimmed hat, and try not to be a Mad Dog or Englishman and be out in the Mid Day Sun.

Check your A/C units before heading down also.

    Let's review, shall we?

    1. OP had a mistakenly-canceled reservation for 5/21-5/24, can't re-book it, wants to share a site with someone.
    2. Resident TA's confirm there's no availability for those dates.
    3. TCD finds sites available, but for a wider range of dates- 5/20-6/3, wonders what OP's problem is.
(Note: We now know Disney is not allowing reservation-trimming anymore, so that's not a solution either.)
    4. ? ? ?
    5. Internet Drama!

Let's all remember that internet forums are not optimized for perfect communication. People can and do word things awkwardly, and other people can and do misunderstand them. From what I can tell, I don't think anyone here had any sort of bad intent- the OP was not a troll, and everyone seems to have been trying to help in their own way.

To the OP: If you received any negative or abusive PM's, please use the report function to let us know about them.

To everyone else: Be nice to each other. It's like, the one rule that we have.

I'll echo what has already been said here:  Videotape the walkthru from start to finish if you can, and point the camera where the tech is pointing/talking about so that later when you need to use something you can see on the video what he was telling you to do.

Also, if possible ask them to let you stay in the camper on their lot for the first night, maybe even two, they should have hookups there to use, if not then stay close by that night. When you are alone with the camper thats when you can take your time, really test it out and make sure every last system is working. Get a frosty beverage from the (hopefully) working fridge, take the owners manual and go thru it front to back system by system before you get too far away   :D

Sadly, the Florida government has been bought and paid for by insurance companies and other special interest groups. And, Duke Energy has had the unhampered ability to gouge its customers (of which I am one) for years.

    It's an absolute shame.
