  1. You're most likely going to get scrap price. I would start selling components on craigslist....ac, fridge, hot water heater, pump, furnace, etc would bring good money.
  2. Yeah Dave....good stuff. Pork loin, rattlesnake pasta.....I could go on and on.
  3. I'm a salsa fiend. I love the stuff at various Mexican joints, but my favorite by far is what they serve at J. Alexander's. It is really fresh tasting and has different ingredients like radishes and cucumber in it. J's won't give you the recipe, but I found a leaked copy on line. I decided to make it tonight, and it is spot on, IMHO. I encourage all salsa lovers to give it a try. JAY ALEXANDER'S SALSA (copycat recipe) 1/8 cup oregano 1/4 cup cilantro 1/2 purple onion 3 jalapenos 4 oz. radishes 6-7 garlic cloves 1 whole green pepper 3/4 cucumber 1 tbsp. parsley flakes 1/4 tsp. ground cayenne pe
  4. Did I see a Steve Martin-esqe "two wild and crazy guys" inspired gym floor dance?......and some gangham style too. Kudos!
  5. Awesome TR as usual. Who else saw the hidden mickey?
  6. Alright....let's get this one rolling again. Last week was busy at both work and home, plus I wasn't feeling well. I saw a Dr. and found out that I have high blood pressure (140/100), which is a bummer. I am reasonably active and eat decently, but my dad has it too, so I am thinking it is hereditary. Anyway, I am feeling better now that I have some meds in me. I left off with our drive through Roaring Fork Motor Trail.....I highly recommend driving this one if you are in the area. After driving back into Gburg I had the bright idea of heading back to Townsend via Pigeon Forge and Wears Valley
  7. NIce. I was up at Cloudland two Sundays ago. They have some new mtn bike trails on some adjacent land that is now state park land. Its called "5 points". It is very nice.
  8. I know that scenario very well! Yes, that is the real homestead. I too like to envision what it was like back then. I like to think that I could make it just fine, but who knows. Those people had to be tough as nails and very resourceful. Thanks...glad you're enjoying it. I think the color will be just fine....especially in the lower elevations. Thanks. I have a little more to share.
  9. Alright, we left off with me gorging myself on garlic rolls. Thankfully, they all went down without a fight....you never know how it will work out...you just have to hope for the best. I forgot to add one thing in my last update. The parking situation in Gburg is horrible. Businesses are crammed in everywhere they can put a building and lots are an afterthought. You can pay $5-10 if you can find a lot that is empty on a busy weekend. On a fall weekend with a TN football home game it was an exercise in futility. But I wheeled in the little lot at Best Italian (about 7 spots) like a boss and sna
  10. Thanks...you should get up to the mtns. It is really pretty and very diverse. You can walk or drive from a Southern hardwood forest to one that belongs in Canada in a short amount of time. Thanks.....highjacking...never! Thanks! I would still ride in one of those packs if I could get someone to carry me. Hey....get you mind out of the gutter.........if that's possible...doubt it, though ;-)
  11. I wanted to do an update this morning, but my work computer has photobucket blocked! Boo on the IT dept. Sorry you had to cancel. Winter is just as pretty with all of the snow in the mtns. I was quite pleased with the little cabin. It reminded me of the "tiny houses" that are popular now. Thanks....the evening light filtering down through the leaf canopy made the colors really pop. Don't worry....I'm not a one and done guy. I am with you on that. I don't rake anymore...I just mow them into oblivion.
  12. Thanks...I took the Nikon dslr this trip. Although, I still used my phone a lot too. Good...I have a ton of leaf pics ;-)......and Thanks for the compliments!
  13. Alright, let's officially get this TR going. I was thinking about something the other day while reading some of the great TR's here....I've never had a TR go over 10 pages. Sure, some posters (cough...TCD....cough ;-)) could do a TR on going to the grocery store and have it turn into 20 pages and 10,000 views.....so I think my goal is modest. If it doesn't I may just join a board dedicated to Universal Studios or something.... My wife and I are big fans of the GSMNP. We have been many times in the past. It used to be common for us to make 3 or 4 long weekend trips each year. The past 3 years
  14. Thanks! Yep...I am loving it too. I am completely anti traffic....I was glad to be going against it for the most part. I've never seen it so bad in the park. Although, Cade's Cove was not bad early this morning. Thanks.
  15. Back home and working on uploading pics to get this TR going. Those who hate leaf pics should not click on this thread any more ;-)
  16. We went back to Gburg with thoughts of walking around and then having dinner, but it was an absolute zoo. So we bypassed main st and headed back to Townsend via the national park. Traffic headed back into town from Cade's Cove was backed up from downtown all of the way past the Sugarlands and nearly up to the top of the mtn at Laurel Falls.
  17. Thanks. Tell mama that I am 36....and I hope to stay looking young for a while ;-) I will post up a tr next week. As for the new kid....I think we are going to keep him.
  18. And red, yellow, green.... Pre TR teaser.... We hiked up the Maddron Bald trail in the GSMNP today....which is just above Dave's campsite. And were rewarded with views like this
