Hello, all, to my latest trip report.  It will start slowly and take some time to complete, but eventually we will get to the end.   First of all, thank you for reading along and especially for commen

Wednesday, October 22 -- The Day I Figured It Out -- Part 1

I had been mulling over my lens issue for a few days ... and then it suddenly hit me.  I felt stupid, stupid, stupid!  The F/1.4 has a very shallow depth of field.  I had been pressing the button halfway and giving the camera an instant to focus.  Maybe it didn't need that instant.  I was probably causing the out-of-focus pictures myself because I was moving out of focus during that instant.  Duh!!!

So from that point on I started just snapping without that pause, and my photos got so much better!

David stayed in that morning because he was having pain in his foot.  So I went to AK alone, and he agreed to meet me at Tusker House for lunch.  I'd been trying to get him to eat there for years, but he thought the food would be too exotic.  We'll see how he liked it!

Warning to Dave -- two Devine photos coming up!

Didn't like the orange in her makeup.  It made her look weirder than usual.

I got the whole seat to myself, so I could slide to either side to take photos.  It was great!

No animals here.  I just liked the landscaping.

You are right- your photos are even better after you figured out what you were doing wrong.

But what is this one?

That's not from the Kilimanjaro Safari.  It looks like some old Florida house.

I agree!  I also love how I am seeing somethings for the first time... like the statue with Minnie and (is that) Walt?  I've never noticed that one before... :)

That's Roy, Walt's brother. Walt and Mickey have the Partners statue right in the middle of the Hub. Roy, who deserves all the credit for WDW, gets a bench at the flagpole. And, the bench gets moved to the side by the Fire Station from time to time, to make room for holiday decorations.

Uh oh... Dave is going to be mad!

Nice safari pics.

Thanks, Kelly!

Those Devine pics actually weren't too bad.....the close up shots of her face made her look more human and not like some creepy weed who is going to grab me.

Thanks to you too, Nacole!  Glad TCD answered for you.  Yes, that is Roy.

Ok I know I'm weird but that close up of Devine is hot.

I think I vaguely remember that building as you are walking back to Harambe after the Safari

Actually it is from the Safari.  I should have posted it in the "Where in the World" thread!

The people who are using a wheelchair or a scooter are loaded and unloaded in a different area.  This building is on the left right before I disembarked.

And that explains why I've never seen it.

It looks out of place.  We are supposed to be in a huge wildlife preserve in the heat of Africa.  That looks like an old conventional home- not something I would expect to see in a wildlife preserve.

But then, I've never been to Africa, so maybe it's accurate.

Okay... now I have to read up on Roy Disney    That's embarrassing to admit...

Okay... now I have to read up on Roy Disney    That's embarrassing to admit...

Walt died in 1966, after the land for the "Florida Project" had mostly been purchased, but before plans were finalized or ground broken.

Roy took over and made it all happen. They had to ditch a lot of Walt's initial plans, but they pushed forward and were able to create Walt Disney World out of a bunch of swampland in just a few years.  It's truly amazing what they were able to do.

Wednesday, October 22 -- The Day I Figured It Out -- Part 2

After exiting the safari I visited my favorite rest room/smoking area in AK.

Being in a scooter is great here.  I couldn't have climbed the stairs, and scooters and wheelchairs get a great space right down on the floor in front.

This show is difficult for me to photograph because of the theater lighting.  But I just kept snapping away and managed to get some decent shots.  I did have to tweak the contrast on some of them in Photoshop.

My dog is confused and growling at the strange furry and feathered people on the tv screen.

Poor dog!

I love FOTLK.

Me too.  I wish David liked it.  The only time I see it is when I can get time away from him.

I think it's the CM break/staging area, we've seen numerous CM's come out of there, primarily new drivers.

I think you're right.  I saw CMs coming out of the house.

Looking back, I probably should have tweaked some of these photos a little more.  But I hope I gave you some good memories of the show.

I then rode to the Discovery Island Trail.

Wasn't much to it, but I don't think I've been there before.

I know by now I'm duplicating some pictures.  Sorry if I'm boring you!  This next one is a repeat and is shot from a little different angle, and I think I like this one better.

_DSC4298_zps11156226.jpg

I went through one of the shops.

_DSC4301_zps32aedf62.jpg

I liked the design of this shirt, but I didn't like the price tag and the thin material.

Wednesday, October 22 -- The Day I Figured It Out -- Part 4

Goofy was upset with David because he wouldn't get off his cell phone:

More food for me:

More random shots inside the restaurant:

What did David think of Tusker House?  He liked it.  Know why?  He just ate the plain dishes.  If a dish had an ingredient he didn't recognize or hadn't tasted before, he refused to try it.

But I'm glad he liked it.  He will be willing to go there again!

Next we visited:

There was only one tiger out today, and it apparently didn't want its photo taken.  Plus, a bunch of kids squeezed in front of me between the railing and the glass.  The rude parents didn't say a word to them.

We caught a bus from AK to the Polynesian.

_DSC4355_zps8f8eca0e.jpg

And from there we walked to the TTC.  We saw an articulated? bus.

_DSC4356_zps52b5dd7b.jpg

We only saw six of them the entire trip.

Alamo picked us up at Lost and Found and carried us, ECV and all, to their office so we could pick up our rental car.

We came back to the Fort only to learn from Dave that we had missed Lou's visit that afternoon.

Went looping with Kassie.
