Not only do they touch our lives and we remember them for a long time, I just became convinced Wednesday night that other animals can remember their companions as well.  I keep Wrigley's remains on my computer desk and her collar with a bell sits on top of the box.  She has been there since end of April 2015.  Well, I noticed there was dust on the collar and her ornate box so I picked the collar up and shook it off which made the bell jingle as if she was wearing it again.  I've posted on here before how Rolo our dwarf Boxer and Wrigley were best friends.  When the bell jingled, Rolo came running from the other room and started to look around and she started to whimper as she's searching every nook and cranny in the room.  On a whim I jingled the bell again and she stopped and looked right at the collar.  Realizing what she was looking for I let Rolo sniff the collar and she gave it a couple of licks like she used to do to Wrigley.  I still haven't healed from her passing and it shocked me to see Rolo react to the collar that way.  That dust from it made my eyes water a bit...

So sad to hear about so many pets crossing over the bridge. You all have my sympathy and I hope the hurting hearts heal.
Our two poms took to camping so easily in their old age, thought I would lose Lacey this past weekend, but she rallied and is still with us.  Not going gang busters but has her smile back.  Lacey was 13 last April and Lucky was 15 July 4.

Only 3 posts on this board and your expressed sole reason for joining is for bashing a well respected outside vendor.  Your line "I may even annoy Disney a bit about off property rentals" is really telling.  Are you the guy in charge of renting carts at the fort or is it one of your relatives who is a cast member in charge of the golf cart rentals?

I just don't like people who join a group for the sole purpose of bitching about their bad experience.

    Good job, Picture Thief!
Tell Denise and Ed TCD says Hi, and that they can come over here anytime if they'd like to get accurate information first hand instead of relying on stuff that you and others have to steal and post.
And since you apparently can't take a hint- it is not cool to steal photos from another site without giving credit via a link.  Which you cannot do over there, as one of the remaining minions will rat you out to Webmaster Kathy and company, and you will be flushed.

bhall reacted to CCIntrigue...aka Gwen in What are your driving limits per day?
I know this has been discussed on various threads through the years ... wanted to start a thread for this topic specifically.
David and I have always traveled 500 miles toward the Fort the first day.  That left a couple of hours of travel the next morning, and we arrived at the Fort around 630 or 730 am the second day.
But last year I developed two DVTs in my left leg during our trip.  It was very painful.  I was on Xarelto for 7 months.  Just went off it a couple of weeks ago.  My doctor attributed it to sitting in the moho too long.  Like flying for hours without exercise.
I'm trying to convince David to break up our trip into segments of 250 miles per day or so.  That means 2 days and about 2 hours the third day to get to the Fort.  We would still go home in 2 days, a little over 300 miles each day.
    Am I being unreasonable?

Hey Fort peeps. Been a while since I have been able to post. Been on and off lurking the past few months. Not sure if you all remember but last I was on we were getting ready to start building a house. That whole thing turned into a disaster as far as the start. Because of that we have rescheduled our disney trip 4 times. Well we finally got into our new house about a month ago, ran into some issues with schedules and sure enough had to reschedule the fort trip we had setup for september to may of 2017 (originally scheduled for November 2015).
In the mean time we decided to try and squeeze in a quick trip to the smokies before the kids went back to school. About 2 weeks ago we scheduled a trip for Aug 6-14 to stay at elkmont in the park which is one of my feels like home places. Got our camper to the house and started cleaning it up and found out we acquired a leak over the winter and I had a leaking front seal. After a lot of experimentation I was able to find a good sealant to fix the leak and also an easy way to remove the old sealant. Got the leak taken care of yesterday and pretty much finished up the cleaning yesterday.
As I was packing up our towels/washrags/making the beds I was listening to some music on youtube trying to get into the mood for a week away from work. Pretty much everything that was auto playing from youtube picks was classic rock and out of no where the Carl Rae Jepsen remake of Part Of Your World came on as I was putting the last few things away and it hit my disney soft spot. At that moment I pretty much said enough was enough. Closed everything up, went into the house, got on MDE and found out the Ft had premium sites available the 6-14th. Called up the wife and told her I had lost my mind and said we were going to disney instead of the smokies. After a short back and forth she agreed to the change in scenery and we will now be at the fort next weekend. Can't wait.
Is anyone else going to be there during this time? Is there a chance I could get "spiked" even though I never got to order my official fortfiends sign (remember that being a requirement before)? Anyone have any tips on how to hang my wooden ft wilderness sign? I may break out the mickey head light I made if I can figure out a base for it by the end of the week.

We travel from Indiana to the Fort in January. There is a nice campground called I-24 campground just outside of Nashville. Clean, safe, easy in and out. It is a bit off the interstate but not bad. Last year we had to push through to GA because of a terrible snow storm so make your travel plans flexable. Just south of Atlanta there is another campground in Perry, GA but I can't remember the name. That time of year it can be tricky finding an all seasons campground. I have never stayed at a rest area or Walmart so I can't help you there.

    Hi everyone,

My young family will be travelling southbound from Ontario Canada (Detroit border) to the Fort in January 2017. We have a 15ft Trillium trailer and don't need full hookup. Looking for safe campgrounds along I-75. Our first night we are looking around Tennessee area as we want to get out of the snow!

In Canada we stick to Provincial Parks. Are State Parks and KOAs generally rated as safest vs family owned parks?

I had thought about stopping at Walmart's/rest stops along the way, as they are free and we are just stopping to sleep. But my hubby is concerned about our bicycles and gear in the back of the truck being vulnerable.

    Any tips are welcome! Thanks

We are a hardy/crazy bunch.  No A/C in the PUP or the tent.  In the past it usually cooled down enough at night where it actually got chilly, even our trip 2 years ago over the 4th at the Fort.
But this year the heat just hung around.  I doubt it dropped below 80 even at night, and there was no air movement.

It was a good site, my granddaughters liked playing in the woods behind and around the site, but it got sunny there around 10:00 to 10:30, and stayed sunny until about 6:00.  Great for drying out after a rainy day, but hot sitting/cooking outside.  1517 across the street seemed to stay shadier longer.
