They should take one of the numerous empty EPCOT buildings and turn it into a giant International Food Court!
They could rotate the menus based on what the themes are, Art Show, Garden, Food and Wine, Christmas (yes I said the C word).
Imagine how much more food and drink they could sell if people only had a little ways to walk to each booth, it was nice and cool, they had places to sit and relax and stuff their faces in comfort without trying to eat and balance their food and drink while sweating up a storm !

Great dream, but it will never happen. We can't get a cart bridge from the meadow post to the bike barn and they can't figure out that the restaurants at the lodge would make a ton more money if they allowed carts to drive to the lodge

For me it depends on the type of trip I want to have. We're going to be at the World next weekend. We're bringing our Grandnephew, and we're doing parks. A hotel makes more sense. We're making a beeline down Thursday evening, getting up early Friday morning, and going hard for 3.5 days, then making a beeline home on Monday evening.
For our longer trips, when it is just us, yes, I will stay at the Fort in a heartbeat. It's more relaxing, we can go looping, hang out with other Fiends, stay at the campground till 2 in the afternoon, etc. We're not pool people, so "hanging out" when we stay at other resorts has no appeal.
I also wish we could still do that for our quick weekends when just going "because", but we just don't have the stamina to do that any more, so we get an All-Star or stay offsite. We can't pull the camper down or home in one 12 hour stretch anymore, set up at 2 in the morning, and have any fun, just to head home on Sunday or Monday again. But we do visit the Fort and visit Fiends, and I kick myself every evening when we have to "go back to our room" But I know realistically it's just not possible.
So, yes, money does play into it some, but there are other factors, such as time, and physical capability. Because the Fort IS expensive, we save it for longer trips when we can truly enjoy it.

We got two power recliners at Macy's. They fit in a 65" space with about 4" in between. They delivered and put them in the FW.

They offer quickservice discount for TiW for places that don't have a table service, such as the Value Resorts (All-Stars, Pop Century, Art of Animation), Port Orleans French Quarter, and quick service at Animal Kingdom since it technically did not have a Disney-owned table service restaurant. When they opened Tusker House, the computers didn't change, don't know if they have changed the computers now that Tiffen's has opened.

I think it's more that they are claiming the change is to get rid of the objectionable scene that bothers me. History is not objectionable, it is what it is. There WERE bride auctions in pirate days. Now if they merely stated they were re-imagining the story, so be it.

mouseketab.....Carol reacted to TheFlame in NEW/OLD member back for advice!
Hi all! I am a Fiend from wayyyy back. We used to go to the Fort quite often but during the past 6/7 years or so, our life has changed drastically. I am friends with a few Fiends on Facebook so I have kept up with a few of you on there. It has been difficult for me to come here except to lurk every so often. I miss camping, miss my camper, and at times miss our old life.
We are planning our first WDW and Fort trip in 4 years and I am 3 months away and in a bit of panic mode. We have our site, Preferred loop, August 27th for 2 weeks reserved. We will be renting a camper(already reserved) and driving down from North Ga. Any advice on weather during this time and how to beat the heat? We do not normally come down during the heat...
Renting is a first for us since we have always brought our own or families camper down. I am a bit nervous about that since it's something I haven't experienced. Not sure how the rental company will setup if they arrive first and how they will get into the Fort at all even if we are already there. Will there be a problem with check in or security? Haven't spoken to my rental company about this at length yet. I am sure she will know more. I am just looking for personal experiences...
We would love to rent a golf cart again but I am aware that all of that has changed since our last trip. I would love any and all advice from Fiends on this subject. Renting from Disney isn't an option. I have never and will never be able to afford that. Last trip we rented from a Fiend. It was a 3 week stay and the only affordable option for us. My husband will be in touch with him but not sure he is still doing this. We have used Kenny in the past but with a 2 week stay just not sure a cart is in the cards for us. We do have a vehicle capable of towing in a trailer with a cart from Kenny. I just do not know how well this works with the new rules.
Ticket prices....  Not sure what we will do here. Our income is much different now than any trip(anywhere) we have ever taken. In the past we have had AP for several trips, done homeschool days and ordered from UT. AP is NOT happening this time even if we are able to stay for the full 2 weeks. Any advice here? I have priced UT with Mousesavers discount, YES program tickets, and TAW. YES seems the cheapest for the longest stay ticket. Not looking for hopper or water parks.... just want as many days as we can get.
I have been reading a few threads this morning and I am feeling very.... worried. We love WDW and love the Fort even more. I am seeing so many unmagical posts about the campground and the parks. I love reading any and all opinions. I like honesty and knowing how others vacations have went down good or bad. I would love any advice anyone can give. I am having a hard time planning this trip. I do not want to over plan since we have been a lot in the past 15 years or so but I do have a 6 yo DS who doesn't remember his 1st or 2nd trip in 2012 and 2013. Magicbands were in the testing phase last trip. This is all so overwhelming... It will be myself, husband, daughter and her husband, DS17 and DS6. Yes, my kids are 22, 17, and SIX. Yes, he was a surprise. Yes, I am tired, lol!

Nice to be back! Love the information this site gives. I steer everyone I can from Facebook pages to this site who are interested in The Fort and camping. A wealth of knowledge here and a bit of Snark to boot!

Glad to help - FYI, since it's been a long time since my son used the golf transportation, I double checked the Disney website:
Is complimentary transportation provided from my Disney Resort hotel to the Walt Disney World Resort golf courses?
    A.   Yes. Transportation to and from the golf courses is available with complimentary taxi vouchers from select Walt Disney World Resort hotels.
Complimentary transportation is for regular play only. It is not available for group play, group outings or tournaments.

    Howdy!! Welcome!!!
Bus to Epcot is pretty easy, and yes they provide service early in the morning. Although, we are no longer early folks, buses to Epcot, AK, Studios, and DS start at 7:00 am from the Outpost stop. So in order to get to the Outpost stop that early, it may be advisable to drive your vehicle to the main parking lot, park, then walk over to the Outpost bus stop. Internal buses don't start till 6:40ish. If you have bicycles or a golf cart, even better.
Getting to MK pre rope drop - take one of the small boats over to the Contemporary, they start at 6:45 am. Then walk over to the Magic Kingdom. There is no car parking near the Marina, so you'll need to bus, walk, bike, or golf cart to the marina from your site.
Since you are a resort guest, for golf, go to the main checkin building and ask for the complimentary transportation to the golf courses!!! They will get you a cab.
Easiest way to GF, is boat to Contemporary, then monorail.
    Hope this helps!!

I remember years ago, before Disney Channel was a standard cable channel, I would get so excited that they were having a free preview of the Disney Channel. I would watch it constantly during that preview!! Now, it's a channel that I NEVER watch. We actually don't even watch ABC all that much. Some of the movies and the theme parks are great, their TV offerings have gone off the rails (except all the ESPN channels, can't go wrong with SEC football and MLB).
