Rumor: Maelstrom closing - CONFIRMED
djsamuel replied to GaDawgFan.....Kelly's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
I have to wonder if Disney is reaching the saturation point with Frozen. I know people are still going crazy buying the merchandise, but how much do they invest long term? For example, the other day my wife went in to see American Adventure. We got there just as the Voices of Liberty were starting. Part way through the performance, they mentioned that Disney has many well known songs, and they will sing one of them, "Let It Go" from Frozen. There was an audible groan from the crowd when that was announced. The Voices of Liberty did a great job with the song, and there was polite applause -

You're close Lou. Last year my wife volunteered while my daughter, son in law and I ran it. She got a light jacket/windbreaker (not too bad really) and pretty much a bag of chips. She worked the finish line, handing out the medals, and she really enjoyed it. Fortunately, she was able to hand out the medals to all of us. -

Last year, the Pointer Sisters were terrific. We got there just at the start of the 5:30 show and stood in the back. For the other two shows that night, we just waited for the line to be seated, and then walked in and got decent seats. If you really want to be near the front, I would get in line no later than one hour before the show. You can still enjoy the concerts without doing that though. -

I ran the other direction! :rofl2: Were you working? My wife and I spent a few hours walking the World Showcase. While Future World seemed pretty crowded, the people seemed slower than usual moving into the World Showcase. It was a nice day, not too packed in the countries. -

We were at Epcot yesterday. A large chunk of the store is now only Frozen merchandise. The perfume area is now all Frozen as well as some of the area in the room with the troll. The meet and greet area is still being worked on. -
They were working really hard on it last week.

Campsite Etiquette
djsamuel replied to GaDawgFan.....Kelly's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Ah, I didn't realize that was a smoking area. In the words of Emily Litella, Thanks. Now it doesn't seem so out of place. Should have checked prior to posting. :whew: Edit: Actually, isnt the smoking area next to the Settlement Trading Post and not by the dock? -

Campsite Etiquette

I'm going to hijack the thread here since it has been dormant for a time, and this is still on the subject of etiquette. We just returned from the Fort today, and we encountered something that to me was pretty irritating. I wanted to post it to see if perhaps I was over-reacting. In any case, my wife and I headed over to the dock last night to watch the Electrical Water Pageant (sorry Lou) and then Wishes. We picked out a couple of chairs on the right side (facing the water) behind the boat rental building. Over time, another couple joined us, followed by a family of a grand mother, kids -
Fiend on the scene... and a bear too
djsamuel replied to rdancemom... Pam's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Just checked in today. The information packet now includes the bear letter and they tell you about the bear at the Outpost during checkin. I think we have a better chance of seeing an alligator again. -
Every time down here there is a sex sting operation, it gets top billing if there is a "Disney employee" involved. I never hear that a Centurylink Employee was involved or some other industry with the exception of teaching. 32 convictions out of the thousands of employees who have worked or are working at Disney over this time period is probably at or below average for other occupations in the area. The news people seem to try to sensationalize it so it looks like Disney is full of perverts. :banghead:

Yes they still do at the Contemporary, Polynesian, and the Grand Floridian. They often do it at the Yacht and Beach Club as well when it is busy at Epcot.

We really like the 200 loop, but as stated, the sites are a bit smaller.

Trying to prepare myself...
djsamuel replied to ddepr1217's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
100% agree on the naps. When we lived in NJ, we started bringing our daughter down when she was 2. My wife and I would alternate who would bring her back for an afternoon nap while the other did the parks. At night, we'd reverse, and the person who brought her back for her nap stayed out later at night. We did have an agreement that whoever was out at night had to bring back the obligatory snack. We followed that until we moved down here when my daughter was 7. Now she turns 26 tomorrow and I still yearn for that afternoon nap! :rofl2: -
You sound like my kind of guy! :clint:

There are 11 sites with full hook ups. On some weekends, they are taken, but for example, there are still a couple of full hook ups available for the last weekend in June. -

Good point on the senior citizen rate. We live about 10 miles from the park, and I was really pleasantly surprised at how nice it is. We had it right in our back yard and never checked it out until now. -

No, unfortunately I did not. The bath houses were large. Plenty of toilets and a decent size sink area. Each bath house had 3 showers, one was handicap and the other two were a bit bigger than the showers at the comfort stations at Fort Wilderness. They were also clean. All of the hot water is solar heated, and was plenty hot. Did not run out. There are several bath houses, so there is one convenient to every camp site. They also have some nice cabins available as well: -
Even though we live in Clermont, my wife and I took our camper there for a nice weekend. Given the $24 a night charge, and the proximity to Disney, I figured I'd post some pictures: Here is the camp site itself. The site we had was near the bath house, and had water and electric. The bath houses were surprisingly nice and the showers large. There are several full hook up sites and the dump station is very nice and easy to use. It is a decent size campground with 60 sites. We hiked about 8 miles, and only hit less than half of the trails. Here are some pictures: T
