  1. Up here we have to book a good 2 months out for any decent campground spot, more for the good CG's Not to hijack, but Gwen we did pirateland in 2013 and plan to do it again this year- should we look at ocean lakes instead??

  3. And kudos to you for buying an aluminum frame unit. If this were wood framed I'd tell you to burn it. So to all of those reading along who may be thinking about a camper, please don't but a wood one!
  4. That's pretty typical. I order my replacement filon and aluminum materials from a place called factory rv surplus out of Elkhart, IN. The tricky part of this is the roof and all trim sit on the walls, so you just have to put things back together in a different order. The walls are easy to make with foam, filon, Luan and regular contact cement and then hide all of the outside seams with aluminum trim or they make really thin diamond plate called starbrite treadflex. Lastly, the rubber roof will shrink once unfastened so you will need to make some special vice grips with angle stock welded ont
  5. Eric, don't sweat it. These campers are put together in minutes with cheap materials with not so highly skilled workers. You can take most campers completely apart with a phillips, a Robertson bit and a putty knife. I have been wanting to get a pic share site account so I can post here, but I'll do it for you so you can be confident. I flip rv's on the side and there isn't much you can't do in your driveway. Any specific questions?
  6. Wife and I split almost every meal at WDW, unless its a sit down table service (but not when I strap on the feed bag at the trails end) and even then, Like at the Hacienda San Angel at Epcot, we ordered the special meal for two. Most things (like my favorite bacon burger at cosmic rays at the MK) are big enough to cut in half, add an extra side or better yet have a mickey bar after every meal! It will save you a ton.
  7. FYI I called the WDW customer suggestion line as per another thread I read yesterday, and surprisingly, I got a phone call back today. The nice woman on the phone explained that since the Fort is a high demand resort, she doesn't foresee any discounts. I did mention the AP's and she only mentioned something about FLA resident, but that helps not me.
  8. Wife and I both 35, no kids yet, Disney is awesome solo! But, I would love to have my nieces there to see how excited they'd be.
  9. I would hope that they would never do this at the fort. Could you imagine having to drive loop after loop looking for an open site? With a trailer or 40 footer? You know how people are, they would always be in the wrong spot, or "oh I thought this was it", or "oh we couldn't back in so we came over to this one". I'm fine with sending a fax.
  10. That is really cool technology. We stayed at POP in mid August and drove straight through from Pittsburgh. We arrived at 3 am, and I would have loved to not have parked, walked into the lobby , park again then try to drag everything up to the room. That's about the best use for the Magic Bands yet IMHO.
  11. OK thanks! So we'll try on the 25th Cool, thanks Looks like we'll be there around the same time. Let me know if you have any luck getting a table for your trip. AP
  12. Wife and I are really confused, we thought there was a website to make a reservation? We have a trip planned for a little under 60 days, so we tried the fast pass for lunch, and it said none available. Is this a new system, pr was the site we were looking at abandoned already? Thanks AP
  13. I imagine they would NEVER turn away a paying customer, even if you were driving a boat.
  14. Just got back from the DTD Hilton for a work trip o Saturday. Very nice hotel, quiet, and the walkway leads right to the main West Side entrance near the Disney buses. I'd recommend it.
  15. I also have a BW companion. Really nice, strong hitch- no comparison between this and my old reese slider. If you can't swing the price tag, check craigslist, that's where I got mine in like-new condition for 500 bucks.
  16. I guess for most of you in the south, the extra length won't matter, but up here in the hills of PA, that means overhang, and overhang means dragging on every little hill. I have to purchase trailers that sit up nice and high so I can get them into my uphill slope driveway. An extra 3 feet would be most likely necessitate some major wood blocking to get it home. Not to mention a case of the draggin ace.
  17. I agree with the tubs being too small and recommend a corner unit if you can find it. My old 5th wheel had a really neat device the previous owner installed. It was a shower curtain holder, so to speak. It was a big clear adhesive pad that stuck to the curtain, a fishing line type string with a loop on it that you hooked to a stationary hook on the wall. It held the curtain off of your body and gave so much extra room. I have not been able to locate anything like it for our current 5th wheel- if anyone knows what I'm talking about or what it's called, please let me know!
  18. Anyone tell my me how much the adult breakfast buffet is?
  19. Thanks everyone, I agreed it wasn't enough time. We drove, rode the MR then drove through the Fort. Jen, yes I am. Still here too!
  20. Ok gang, I'm in Disney for a teacher convention (hotel unfortunately) and my colleagues want to have a sightseeing tour before I take them to eat at Ohana tonight for an 8 pm res. I have a pretty good feel for the duration of all the trips But- We are basically staying as across from DTD, so I planned to have us walk over to DTD for 630, take a fort bus, then boat over to the MK and then monorail to the Poly. Will we make it by 8?
  21. Thanks for the replies so far. I like Gwens cracker barrel idea the best so far. I would offer my driveway up as well, but it's a pretty good slope and my 5 er drags a little tail!
  22. Hi gang, Was planning our March trip and looking for some stops coming from Pittsburgh. Usually we stop in Va. but are going to try and make it farther this time around. I hope to drive about 7 to 8 hours after working a half day and that puts me in the Columbia, SC area. I spotted a wal mart on Killian road right off of I77. So my question is, have you ever wal-marted? Will my wife feel safe enough to not keep me up all night? Any input appreciated AP
  23. Hi Derek, I had a gulf stream mako 5th wheel, I thought it was a pretty nice unit and I liked the floor plan. I looked up the one you mentioned and I see it's a wood framed model. My thoughts on wood frame campers is to stay away. I recommend only purchasing an aluminum frame unit in case you end up with a roof leak- which you will. This way, the damage will be isolated to superficial trim and paneling, not rotten structure. I fix campers on the side and can safely say that there are 2 types of rv's- new ones and ones that leak. PS: if you are looking at new, remember 30 percent off MSRP i
  24. Great TR. Congrats on the 10 year cancer free anniversary. We have a 2 year old niece who is 1 year free of Neuroblastoma. On a side note, why do we all love to camp? It must be something with adventure- because there must be something special about anyone who wants to spend vacation worrying about blowouts and stuck slides, roof leaks and broken AC units. Stay handy my friends! AP
