  1. Cream cheese pretzels may be ok unless it's after midnight on the last day of a cruise and you're stuffed but want to have one more "free" food item before you go back to the real world and so you point and ask for a pretzel thinking it's a pretzel and you settle down by the pool and bite into it and it oozes. Been there done that. Is there some kind of FF prize for a trip report that manages to include in the inside of a toilet. That has to be a first (?).
  2. What fun to take your grandnephew on his first trip. Looks like he's a good age for that too. When I retire I'm going to volunteer to take other people's children to WDW. But one at a time.
  3. Wow! Yeah, I definitely wouldn't want to have an orange grove with all those rules and regulations. And price caps. I admire you for still trying, though. I will be thinking of this as I drink my glass of Minute Maid Low Pulp / Acid Free oj every morning.
  4. After TCD's comments about people not reading TR I'm vowing to actually comment instead of commenting in my head. Great trip report so far. You've done all my favorite attractions. You should have done time lapse photography on that waffle. I love Tiki Birds because of my Dad singing along (during the show and for months after at home; cracked himself up every time). Looking forward to reading more.
  5. Honest question because I really don't know -- can you explain the connection here. Are orange groves closing because they can't find workers because everyone thinks they need a college degree? I used to love seeing orange groves when visiting Florida as a kid. That makes me sad.
  6. I just read this article and he uses the term "social mediarologist" . I think that's how a lot of people are making decisions. Plus Harvey coverage scaring everyone. https://arstechnica.com/science/2017/09/please-please-stop-sharing-spaghetti-plots-of-hurricane-models/
  7. I have 3 teenage boys and when I saw the photo with the nachos in the middle of the table my first thought was "that's all?" Although with the pitchers of non-alcoholic beverages, and if you get to keep the hats and badges, it's not really a bad deal for $90. (in terms of food costs at WDW)
  8. Nothing wrong with loo - ten - ant Dan (Forrest Gump is one of my family's favorite movies so I have to say that in his voice), but I'm guessing Disney wanted a woman. They are losing Ellen from that side of the park. Too bad they couldn't have gotten one of the actresses from Hidden Figures.
  9. I hadn't hear of her either, but she's been in a lot of things Gina Torres has appeared in many television series, including Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (as Nebula), Xena: Warrior Princess (as Cleopatra), the short-lived Cleopatra 2525, Alias (as Anna Espinosa), Firefly (as Zoe Washburne), Angel (as Jasmine), 24 (as Julia Miliken), Suits (as Jessica Pearson), The Shield (as Sadie Kavanaugh), and Westworld (as Lauren). She starred opposite Chris Rock in the feature film I Think I Love My Wife, as Carla in the independent film South of Pico, and she reprised her Firefly role in its fea
  10. Anyone click on the link? The articles says this: "20 percent of adult passengers on Disney cruises are adults without kids along for the journey, and they often go on vacation during the school year, when there's less likely to be an influx of young'uns." Trying to find the source of the study takes one to a BloombergPursuits article with stories of adults who love DCL cruises starting with this one: Joanne and Gerald “John” Gerrity, the fifth-generation owners of a kielbasa shop in Nanticoke, Pa., booked their 100th Disney cruise in September. And no—they’re not sailing with young ch
  11. Let's hope just a father/son trip this time.
  12. OK, I don't get the point of the Food Tour. So I pay additional $ to go around with a group of people and eat food that I could get on my own. And I have to consume the food while I'm on the tour or else it's wasted. I was full for several hours after eating one Dole Whip. Or are these smaller sized portions that they have available just for the tour. And if that's the case, what is the tour part? I know, it's just a rumor
  13. From children's book author Kate DiCamillo's Facebook page today: https://www.facebook.com/KateDiCamillo/ author of Because of Winn-Dixie and The Tale of Despereaux, among others. ----------------------------------------- Here is another treasure I have unearthed in the cleaning and sorting of the basement: my Disney nametag, complete with my “year pin.” I worked at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT Center when I was young. I was stationed, mostly, in the giant geodesic dome, Spaceship Earth. And there, the whole world passed before my eyes. It was the beginning o
  14. With all the rapid advancements in technology, I find it interesting that two of the most popular activities for adults these days seem to be coloring in coloring books and painting rocks.
  15. If done right, using the same basic GMR structure but about Mickey, it could be pretty nice. They also could use some of the props and stuff from One Man's Dream in the entry area for people to look at while in line.
  16. Just following up to say that we had a very nice day at Cedar Point. We ended up staying in one of the onsite cabins in what we called "the Fort Wilderness of Cedar Point" even though it really wasn't. But a nice RV park with cottages, cabins and deluxe cabins for those without RVs. Staying onsite meant we could walk to the parks and beach and the big hotel with the evil coffee shop, and also back to the cabin for a break. It also gave us an hour early entry for select coasters. And we watched fireworks on the beach the night we arrived since it was July 4th. My boys went basically 9 am
  17. Lesson learned. Read FF even on vacation. I could have saved us over an hour, a heated "discussion" with my husband and an almost burst bladder had I read this before we came through Cincinnati on our way back from Cedar Point last week . My map app was trying to route me to those other routes, but no I wanted to see Cincinnati, and ended up only seeing a a lot of truck exhaust and a frightening gas station restroom.
  18. Dealing with this also. One month before my older son turned 18 last Fall (but still a senior in high school) we went to WDW and I told him it was the last time we would be able to afford to take him . We recently returned from a family road trip and when making hotel reservations I first would put in 3 adults and 2 children then 2 adults and 3 children. If the price was different I went with the second and informed him he was still a "child." No hotel questioned it, or even looked at him. But Disney keeps track of ages. He also was kicked off our "family membership" at the gym we
  19. Would you say "please be mindful to other guests" or "please be mindful of other guests." I say the second. A quick google of both phrases found only a few hits for the first, and mostly from places outside the US.
  20. That is interesting. But I have a question about this: "If rainforests, and elephants, and gorillas, and rhinos, and indigenous cultures, all become a thing of the past, then Disney's Animal Kingdom will become a fantasy park… Not the adventure into reality that it is." So, Avatarland is reality?? Also, I thought you were going to say he posted that he got to meet Twin #1. #fortfiendsfamous
  21. I was just at a South Carolina DMV office an hour ago and saw a poster listing documents needed to get ready for the change to REAL ID. I said out loud that I thought SC wasn't doing REAL ID. Seeing this post I just looked it up. Like all good SC laws, they make sure to emphasize that you don't HAVE to comply. Beginning Monday, May 15, 2017, South Carolina citizens who are interested in getting a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card, in the future, may bring their identity documents to the SCDMV. If you received your first-ever SC license or ID during or after Novemb
  22. My kids are older teens now so we were slightly on the backside of the cell phone thing when they were in elementary school and we were going to WDW every year. Plus I was mean -- no phones until 13 and no real smart phones until 16. They did have Ipods but I didn't allow them to use them much outside of the car and house. Some of our best conversations were when we were waiting in lines for rides. I remember one Spring Break pretty much finding out everything that had happened to them at school over the past couple of months. All sorts of funny stories. We'd also people watch and talk about
  23. Well, I won't be doing something called Top Thrill Dragster, but I will pass that info along to my thrill seeker sons. Thanks. 43 degrees sounds a little too cold for racing through the air. That sounds like fun! I will definitely check it out. I can do centripetal force (I know that, because I just looked up what it is), I just can't do heights, drops, rapid acceleration or enclosed spaces. Thanks! I hadn't really looked at all the rides (saving that for the long car trip) but it's good to know there will be something for me too. I can easily spend some time walking the beach
  24. Thanks for the advice! I just looked at Street View on Google Maps so I saw the parking lot you're referring to back by the waterpark. That looks like a good idea. My boys will probably want to go from opening to close but that looks like way we can take a break while they ride. I can't believe how close it is to the lake.
