  1. I think one of the last new things was riding a Segway, and that was about 5 years ago. Do they still have that?
  2. Welcome. You will find a lot of big planners chiming in shortly. I'm a semi planner. Figure out the meals to pack and all of the assorted accessories, then wing it for our Fort stay... play it by ear day to day. But we just bought passes again after a 5 year lapse and have seen how things have changed drastically, so now we have to plan park visits instead of winging it.
  3. We like the 1500 because of its location to the pool, though the shortcut from 2000 thru the group camping area isn't too bad getting to the pool. We found just the opposite with the noise factor in 1500 and 2000. When we've stayed in 1500 it's always been quieter and 2000 was a zoo. They put us in 1800 one time and that was quiet, then again I think there were only 5 occupied sites.
  4. Ohhh, opening a can o worms. If someone says how great a loop or site is, they run the risk of everyone else trying to get it! I was told a while back to never say how great a site is just for this reason. So here goes.... I absolutely love the 2000 loop. I love all the noise, commotion, unruly kids, 12 structures to a site, chairs in the middle of the road, getting the stink eye every time you try to go past the overflowing sites, the golf carts whizzing by blaring music and 10 kids piled on. I could just go on and on about how much I love it!
  5. You are. My late neighbor had worked for either Firestone or Goodyear in the NE. He retired with a great pension and lifelong health coverage for him and his wife with no out of pocket expenses. I think those days are long gone. Now all a company cares about is how much the CEO, their cronies, and the stockholders get.
  6. I started my retirement when I joined the Post Office 30 years ago. Before that was a series of dead end jobs that offered very little benefits let alone retirement. I came in under the "new" system where you could put a varying % away every payday up to a max of I think 10%. The older system was the PO put money aside for you. We were shown all kinds of neat charts and graphs about how we would all be millionaires by the time we retired. I put in as much as I could afford while still paying bills and supporting the 6 of us. After a few years I was doing ok, then when Wall Street got
  7. I had always heard that as you approached retirement age, your monthly expenses dropped. That sure isn't true in my case. Yes my house is almost paid for, but the insurance, taxes, and upkeep on it keep rising. Food, cable, cell phone, electricity, Fort sites, etc. have not dropped, in fact they have all climbed steadily. I thought I had a decent retirement plan, but the million $$ that was supposed to be in there has never materialized with the crappy economy and coupled with no raises in 2+ years, makes it look like I'll be working a few more years instead of relaxing and enjoying my
  8. Flyovers are great. When Tampa had the Superbowl quite a few years ago they had all kinds of planes flying around Tampa including the stealth bomber. We had the MetLife Blimp flying over our house twice a day since Friday. I think is was going to the golf tournament NW of Tampa. It goes quite a bit slower than the Blue Angels! Wednesday we were at Cocoa Beach and an Army Blackhawk went screaming along the shoreline pretty darn low.... At least it seemed real low.
  9. Good place to build Arendelle ! They could put a Frozen themed sleigh ride on a bridge from the Fort to the Island and have plastic ice bergs floating alongside.
  10. Been there done that in the 2000 loop a year ago October. Will never go back to that loop again. Had such a horrible experience we got comped a night.
  11. Windows 7 is the closest to XP. I had to order a used desktop off of Amazon to get one with 7 once 8 came out. My wife was used to XP and hated her sisters laptop with 8 on it. The newest version of 8 I think let's you use it like 7.
  12. Do they still have the orange and pineapple swirl?
  13. No, windows 3.1 ! They are using NASA's discarded computers.
  14. There is one of those plaid vest, tablet fast pass help stations in the building to the right of Main Street when you go under the train station. We spent a fun filled hour in there our first day back in the MK after a 5 year hiatus. They struggled to try to fix our linking issues and never got it completely straightened out. When we got on the boat at Epcot, they announced it was 28 minutes to HS, so the TCD gang made up time. Fast Passes as they are at the moment SMB. There are way too many issues that they haven't worked out yet to have the general public using them. As everyone has said
  15. We spent an hour in the MK at the Main St theater trying to get everyone in our party linked together just so we could see each other's selections. Still doesn't work half the time. Disney started going down hill when they came out with the original Fast Pass system. That's when they started having two classes of customers. Previously everyone took their turn waiting in line and it was fair and even. Now like everyone has stated , you wait in line for ever for second class rides and forget about an E ticket standby line.
  16. In my defense I'm on vacation and didn't read the posts as throughly as I usually do. But you have to admit my topic title is catchier!
  17. Interesting article on the developement of the Magic Band in Wired magazine. I read it on Digg, so I don't have the direct link to it. If you copy and past the topic title into Google it'll take you right to wired.com and the article.
  18. Yes, it's the parents fault for their kids behavior. If they think they do no wrong, that's what the kids learn. It's the touchy feely generation that ruined society as we know it.
  19. True, the weather was great Sunday. I've got a red face still. Saturday was a little on the crummy cool side. Long pants weather. We were at the MK Saturday night. Sunday at Epcot we were pleasantly surprised at the lack of heavy crowds. For the most part it wasn't bad getting around the countries, we hit a couple of areas that were crowded, and that was usually caused by large groups standing in the middle of the walkways chatting away oblivious to everyone around them. We left before dark, so I'm sure it got more crowded near the fireworks time.
  20. They might be just reheating it in the display smoker. On 4 Rivers, there are quite a few good articles about the founder John Rivers. Very down to earth guy with a good Christian background. That's why he's closed on Sundays. He has a good cookbook out. We saw and talked to him last year at the UCF book fair and got him to autograph our cookbooks.
  21. Past weekend we visited DW. Eventually there were going to be my wife and myself, then my 3 adult daughters, adult son, 2 granddaughters and 2 in-laws. In the beginning we were scattered due to delayed flights, airport pickups, and drives over from Tampa. Wife, myself and 1 GD started at AK on the safari ride. Driver was good, she had some good stories and jokes, but the ride itself wasn't any different than the last time we went on it about 5 years ago. After that we wandered over to Dino.and and met up with the kids and other granddaughter. They all went on primal swirl and the dino dum
  22. We were at the Flower show Sunday. Daughters got the pork sliders from the BBQ. They said they were ok. Granddaughter and daughter got the shrimp and grits from the Florida Fresh and I got the key lime sparkling wine. Shrimp and grits were good but it was a small potion. Same with the wine, good taste but not worth the $$. We saw the pineapple dog while we were getting our Dole Whips. It was a 1/2 of a hot dog and bun. The Dole Whips with rum were good, but again it wasn't worth the extra $4 for the shot. My granddaughter got the violet frozen lemonade from the Dole Whip stand. It was a
