  1. Near Lexington, Whispering HIlls is only a couple of years old, and the folks who own it are nice people. That and the Horse Park are really the only two choices I know of in the immediate Lexington area. Further south is Renfro Valley (there are two campgrounds there, ok for an overnighter, and good country music shows) and further north there is a Good Sam Cincinnati South (older CG, nice place. Some are bothered by the highway noise there).
  2. Why does it bother me so much that the questoin is a concern over age of a '91 truck? I thought "old" for cars was before 1959! Could it be that I am getting old??? Say it ain't so!!!
  3. As they teach in journalism school: Never let the facts get in the way of a good story!
  4. I suspect it is from the fact that while they cool by evaportation, not all the moisture is evaporated and they add humidity to the air. Plus if you look inside the "box" they have water standing and a little green-stuff is not uncommon. Looks a little like a swamp!
  5. Agree completly with comments so far. It did bring back memories. My Dad and I used to build "air conditioning" in our houses out west using wooden boxes with the sides cut out, cheap thin blankets hanging down over the open sides, a hose to trickle water over the blankets and a box fan to pull air into the house through the blankets and the box. Evaporative cooling. As Dave noted, worked great in very dry areas of the country. Memories of being young and broke!
  6. Great idea, Big Tom. What time is dinner? Do we all need to bring bed linens? :rofl2:
  7. lol! on our last trip our 7 year old G'son decided those were his favorite thing! I did have to watch to be sure he was at the penny machines, not a quarter machine!
  8. AAA has been helpful a couple of times for us with tires on the camper, but towing? Forget it. Long run around..."We cant find a flat bed, we dont have access to a tow truck that will handle your trailer". Really? All 23 feet of it??? Have had AAA for a long time, and the car/tow vehicle service has been great, but we are pretty much on our own if it is more than changing a tire on the camper.
  9. Love it! If I look real close is that you I see waving???
  10. Our motorists insurance on the cars covers the camper, and we have a rider on the homeowners (alos from motorists) in case of damage while parked at the farm. AAA road service has been great for things like flat tires etc. but no help in getting camper towed so far in three instances over the past few years. Time to look in to Good Sam, I guess.
  11. The books are good, but ask lots of questions. And see if you can find someone close who can walk you through stuff if you can. My neighbor bought is first camper this year, and asked me to help him winterize it. Glad to do so. He was starting to do it when I arrived just in time to stop him from putting Prestone auto antifreeze in his water system. He had read that he needed "antifreeze" and had some in the garage so did not buy new. Had no idea that he needed RV/water system antifreeze. Point is, ask lots of questions! Campers in general are glad to help!
  12. This house (we moved in about 4 years ago) is the first time we have ever been able to put two cars (a suburban and a Nissan) in the garage. After this winter, I don't ever want to go through another winter without the car in the garage, even if I have to build another shed for the man stuff! Mornings without scraping the windows...priceless!
  13. On our last trip it was hit or miss if my iphone had it right or not. If it was not right I signed out and back in and it worked right. Maybe Disney, maybe iphone. Gotta love technology!
  14. We find that by the time we add in the cost of parking each day, and the ability to come back to the camper for lunch and a nap, that helps with the cost of the Fort. And x2 on the memories, esp with the kids and g'kids.
  15. and give up all those perks??? like.....well ther's ....... or maybe...... oh shucks, forget i said anything. just pass the root beer! :doublebeer:
