The TCD Gang Runs Disney-2013 Princess Half Marathon Weekend TR

Recommended Posts

That's right, the TCD gang ran Disney!

It happened last weekend, on February 22-24th, 2013.

The plan was hatched late last year when the TCD twins announced that they wanted to run in the Royal Family 5K event that weekend.

I said let's do it!

So we did.

Like always, it got a bit complicated.

Twin #2 is the co-editor in chief of the high school newspaper.

And there was a big state event sponsored by the Florida Scholastic Press Association on February 22.

But, it was at Hollywood Studios.

So, she got to skip school and go to that.

Twin #1 and I just had to come and rescue her some time that afternoon.

We also had to get to Coronado Springs to pick up our race bibs and "free" tshirts.

So, Twin #2 took off that morning with her newspaper advisor, and Twin #1 had to go to school.

We let Twin #1 have an early release, and she and I headed east at about 1 pm.

We were heading to the Pop Century Resort.

I had considered camping at the Fort.

But we were only going to stay two nights.

And, factoring in a golf cart rental, two nights at the Pop were only about $30 more than two nights at the Fort.

So, the Fort lost.

They need to lower their prices.

When we got to the Pop, Twin #1 hopped on the Hollywood Studios bus to find Twin #2.

I checked in, and then headed to Coronado Springs to get our race stuff.

They specifically told us not to drive there. They had bus transportation from all the resorts direct to Coronado Springs. So I hopped on the charter bus they provided.

it's a good thing I did, because they were stopping everyone at the resort entrance and turning people who were not Coronado Springs guests away.

That made for a bit of a mess:

And a line backing up out of the entrance:

I'm glad we werent' staying there.

The bus dropped us off at the Convention Center area of the resort.

I had walked in to this area in the past, but not all the way down to where we were dropped off.

This place is huge!

They had photo ops right in the door for guests to enjoy:

I was directed to a bank of computers, where I had to print out our race waivers.

From there, I was directed in to a gigantic room where I would pick up our race bibs.

Wow, this place is huge! :

It was all very well organized, though.

I stood in the line for the range of our bib numbers:

The numbers went all the way up to 10,000. But, I later learned that only about 8,000 people ran the race. Still, that's a lot of people!

Half of this huge room was set up with the stations shown in the photo above for guests to retrieve their race bibs. The other half was full of all kinds of booths selling every kind of running related gear you could imagine, and even some you can't:

After picking up our bibs, I had to stand in another line to pick-up our t-shirts. But, the lines moved super quick, so no complaints from me.

Here's one last photo I have of the giant room:

From here, the plan was that I would head to Hollywood Studios and meet up with the girls.

So, I walked to the resort bus stop, and headed there.

The girls had texted me and let me know that they were in the Indiana Jones show, and would be heading to the Muppets show after that .

So, I had some time to kill before I would meet them at the Muppets exit.

I decided that I would go in Sid Cahuenga's shop just inside the entrance. I was thinking about buying Barbra Streisand's tootbrush as a gift to give DaveInTn.

I was taken back by the fact that Brett Michael was sitting on a bench right outside the store:

I took this photo for possible use on the Where in the World thread, but on second thought, it would be too easy:

I looked all over for Barbra's toothbrush, but I couldn't find it.

So, I had to look around for something else that Dave would like.

I know this girl was nominated for an Academy Award, but I don't know how to pronounce her first name, plus I figured Dave wouldn't know who she was:

Laverne and Shirley?:

Nah.

Fonzie, maybe.

But not Laverne and Shirley.

Here's an interesting item:

And, I just lost any respect I might have had for Sully. The dude crashed his plane in the Hudson River, and he wants someone to buy his autograph?

Good luck with that.

John Wayne was too expensive:

Eleanor Roosevelt seemed reasonable, but who really likes her?:

Borat? Yes, Borat! Dave probably loves him! But, I read the price tag wrong. I thought it was $2.25. Turns out it was $225. Are they crazy?:

One last shot from Sid's. I used this photo on the Where in The World Thread, and it stumped a few folks:

Next, I stopped at the tip board for some tips:

No more Fastpasses for the good rides!

Time to go!

I headed over to the Muppets exit, and waited for the girls.

They came out after a while.

And ,we decided to head out in search of an early dinner.

On the way out, we saw this guy carrying a big bag of something. I have no idea what this was all about. I don't think he was a CM. What the Fort?:

Here's Twin #2's press pass:

Twin #2 loved the event.

They gave out prizes for correct trivia question answers.

She won this Elephant Poo Poo notepad by answering a trivia question right:

And she also got this cool flash drive:

Let's see if you can answer the trivia question right-

It was: After the Fantasyland expansion how many castles are there now in the Magic Kingdom?

totally could have done without the visual of Creepy Claus scratching his Christmas ornaments!

TCD running, there better be some photos.

Nope, not in with the twins. I'm not doubting that TCD ran it, I just want to see photos of it for blackmail evidence.

Props to all who earned page one bragging rights!

Well done.

3

Yes, three is the correct answer to the question about the number of castles now in the MK.

I immediately said two, thinking of Cinderella and Beast's castle. I forgot about Prince Eric's castle.

I would not have won any poop paper.

Twin #2 said she was the second one called on. The first kid said 2. Fail.

Woo Hoo!! This is on my bucket list!!

(not being first on a TCD TR running at Disney!!) (I'll read it now. lol)

:jumpforjoy

Running a Disney race was something I had wanted to do for a while.

Now I want to run another.

There are three castles.

You are also correct.

Another TCD Trip Report!!!! And we finally made it on page 1!

Nice. page one bragging rights!

3 Castles

RoyalFamily5K2013006_zps0b22ab35.jpg

Did you ask him?

If not, I wonder what he would have said if you did.

I should have asked him something good.

Like when or if they are going to build the River Country DVC.

Or where they keep Walt's head.

I'll bring a list of questions next time.

3 castles, and remind me to never eat paper again!!

You are also right.

On both counts.

Don't be to dismissive of Laverne and Shirley. Without them, how would we have gotten associated withe "the Lone Wolf" or the "Big Ragu". I hope I spelled that right...

Oh, I forgot about them.

I don't know why, but Laverne annoyed me.

Shirley was OK.

No, I am not a Borat fan. I think he's crude and obnoxious.

Now Laverne and Shirley...that is some good stuff.

Since when are you against crude and obnoxious?

Waiting on the pictures of TCD Crossing the finish line. I see you made it through alive.

I don't think there's a photo of the actual crossing of the finish line.

But will be plenty of photos from the race.

And, I assure you, i did cross the finish line.

That CM on the right is apparently asking the same question.

Good catch.

Our theory was that the guy with the bag was, in fact, a castmember. This was in front of Star Tours. We think maybe he had a Darth Vader costume in that bag, and maybe he was Darth's friend showing up for work at the Jedi Training Academy. If that is what is going on, he probably wasn't supposed to be out "on stage" with that bag. I can't see how it would be a guest. What would a guest be doing with a big bag like that?
