I asked a similar question a year ago on another forum if anyone had real world experience with one. No responses. I would like to know a reliable one as well because of the mutts.

Yeah, the HDX brand was designed to only be marketed in Home Depot. It's their economical answer to say a GE or Stanley branded product if you will.

I was thinking the same thing. About 5 years ago, our 5 year old roof was leaking. There was water leaking from the dining room ceiling inches away from the light down onto the table. I went up into the attic and found a 6 foot long path of water from a foot near the ridge vent down the truss to where it decided to drop down. I then when up on the roof and found a nail sticking 1/2" up. Drove a half hour to Lowes and picked up some roofers patch and went back up to the roof, removed the nail, drove a new one in at a slightly different angle and then liberally applied the gooey stuff. I have not used that device but I have the Netgear N300 Extender both at my house and at my day job. It has 4 network jacks in the back of it. The laptop will work with either of those and connect through the VPN. I tried that on a Friday night at the day job (auction building) and on Monday morning I received a call from my supervisor telling me that IT wanted to know if I was somehow using wireless. I said, I was plugged in to a network jack the whole time :) I did not dare ask how they knew and I did not lie with my statement either :) I just didn't answer the question directly H
