I just checked the website. I can't make my fp+ choices yet, because I haven't purchased our annual passes yet.  So the rat is forcing me to spend $$ I wasnt ready to do just to preplan rides that I will have no clue when we will go to each park. This system seriously SMB. I'm tempted to cancel the trip and tell disney to eat it. This type of planning goes against just about everything we like about vacation.

Gee, I was hoping someone would chime in with the standard Fiend response:
    No.
In other news sounds like improvements are coming:

So now that we will officially activate our annual passes next weekend, the joy of park hopping and getting fast passes at different parks is now shot out the window since we will only be allowed 3 per day per person and not 3 per park. Bad, bad, bad

Gots2pitt.. Jeff reacted to tim5055 in Adventures in CAMPER SHOPPING!!
One of the most confusing areas for anyone considering a new pop-up is the aspect of "what can I tow, and which hitch should I purchase?".  Before you go any further, get your vehicle owners manual, and determine what your limits are.  Easier said than done!  As towing capacities of vehicles are based on several factors including the vehicle frame type (unibody or frame), engine, transmission, rear end gear ratio, tires/load range, engine cooling capacity, transmission cooling capacity, alternator capacity as well as several other things.  Woe is the camper who went out and purchased a pop-up without reviewing what their tow vehicle weight ratings were.  The deal you find on a pop-up can quickly fade when you find out you need a new tow vehicle to move it!

Check with your manufacturer to see if they have a separate towing manual.  Many do not include all towing information in the standard manual.  It will probably take less than an hour, but with the manual and probably a few trips to the car/truck to read equipment stickers you will be able to determine the ratings for your vehicle.

Next, was your vehicle equipped with a factory tow package?  What is included in a tow package differs between manufacturers, but many include: heavy-duty brakes, heavy duty suspension, higher capacity engine cooling, an auxiliary transmission fluid cooler, a larger battery, a higher output alternator and a full-size spare tire.
Trailer hitches utilized for pop-up campers generally come in two different styles, Weight Carrying (WC) and Weight Distribution (WD).  The type of hitch purchased for you particular situation will depend on several factors including

    1. The tow vehicle and its towing capacities
    2. The trailer being towed
    3. Vehicle manufacturer specifications.  On certain vehicles, they will provide 2 sets of specifications, 1 for a WC hitch, and 1 for a WD.  Read your owners manual carefully The "fine print" note(s) about trailering may indicate using a weight distributing (WD) hitch for trailers weights above a certain weight (like1,000 lbs.), and it may  require WD for trailer weights above a second threshold (like 2,000 lbs).

Do NOT assume the person trying to sell you a pop-up will know the limitations of your vehicle.  Remember what their job is in this situation! It's to separate you from your money.

Remember, your vehicle braking system is designed to stop the vehicle itself!  When towing you are adding a substantial weight (mass) to the rear of your vehicle which also must be stopped.  If your manufacturer has an option for brakes (electric or surge) if  at all possible they should be included in your camper purchase.

All of the ratings and specifications are important in their own way.  You do not want to exceed any of them!

If you change any vehicle equipment (like new tires) your ratings can change. Always review equipment/tire purchases with an eye toward how it will affect you tow ratings.

I wanted to take a moment out and advise people to please make sure who you are doing business with and the terms of doing business with this entity. I had planned a long three weekend camping trip at Fort Wilderness and after reading the rave reviews about Tee Time decided to rent a cart from them. The other day the other family that was going to join us had to back out because their 17 year old son has to have surgery on a torn ligament the week of the planned camping trip. I emailed Tee Time 12 days in advance and asking them to advise me what the cancellation charge would be (I was expecting like 30% or so).
Much to my surprise it was the full amount. They charged my credit card that evening without letting me know. The other family reserved a cart at Disney and ended up paying nothing for cancellation. As a travel agent I expected some cancellation fee based on the wording of the cancellation policy but in fact Tee Time charges the full amount if cancelled wihtin 14 days of the reservation and 30% of cancelled prior to that 14 day period.
Moral of the story - know what you are agreeing to and sometimes what seems to be a good deal isn't. Tee Time isn't a good deal and I will never use them again nor will I recommend them to any of my clients.
    Happy Camping!!!

Shawn, no need to leave the site. If you wish to participate we would love to have you. Several members on the board have small businesses, they know that word of mouth is crucial to their business. We have had many trolls or single time posters come in and try to start things. I appreciate you coming back and clearing up the situation.
I think you will find that the people that felt were questioning/insulting are really good people. They may be a little jaded by previous experience. They question new members motives when they come in complaining about something. Unfortunately it has happened before here. We try to get to know each other here, and as such this board is sort of like family (yeah even a little disfunctional at times). This board isn't for everyone but anyone is welcome to come join and participate. We aren't all touchy feely here. Yes your motive were questioned. Yes several thought that you were going to be a one post complaining troll. But now that you have shown yourself not to be, stick around, you might just like it here. Understand I would say about 50% of the members here have done business with Kenny (maybe more). Not that Kenny is perfect, no business is, but he tends to try to do the right thing and make it right by his customers from what I have heard.

Gee, I thought it was going start more like this. "And we got home at 8 pm after driving from Athens, TN. The day before we had driven from WDW to Athens, TN." Oh you didn't mean that kind of backwards. Where you driving backwards, that would be interesting. :)
