  1. I'm late to the party but happy to be reading along. We've stayed at AKV twice and really liked it both times. I think it's a great resort for kids, an experience they'll never forget.
  2. Thanks for taking the time to post all these, I'm sure it was time consuming. I had posted old pics on here when I first joined FF but I just wish I had more. I have video but have no idea how I would post that.
  3. Wow, I didn't know they had a slide at Bay Lake. I do remember the hammocks though. They lasted longer than the slide.
  4. My first visit to the Fort was also in the late 80's so I missed a lot as well. But growing up I had a friend who camped at the fort every couple of years through the 70's and 80's. I'm sure she must have some great photos from their many visits there. I haven't spoken to her in about 8 years so I would have to re-establish the friendship then ask for her childhood family photos so I could post them on the internet. That wouldn't seem weird, would it?
  5. Wow, what an unbelievable experience for you and your family. You are doing something that so many (me, included) would love to do. I wish I could help you, but I only know the Northeast!
  6. Wow, great pictures. I love your Brady Bunch station wagon, assuming that was your campsite. Unbelievable pictures of the inside of the cabins. That must be a couple of models before the current cabins because we stayed in them around 1988 and they looked similar on the outside but definitely not on the inside. Great find with these slides! Thanks for taking the time to do all this.
  7. So I have to ask, since Mrs. TCD doesn't accompany you on most of your trips does she get an annual pass too or do you get a day ticket for her? I obviously have too much time on my hands today to even be wondering this.
  8. Had a lot to catch up on. I have a picture of me with my friends in the rainbow tunnel in Epcot. We thought it was so cool. I also remember those elephant topiaries being in front of Epcot for a time, we have a picture of that somewhere too. We rode in the front of the monorail a few times, the last time was probably about 2006. And I do remember them closing the doors! Great Polynesian pics. Were you all staying there? Just wondering since there were pictures of the room. It's so great you have these great memories from your childhood. How often would you go?
  9. I've switched resorts a couple of times and always did it over the phone. I felt it was too risky to do it online. Hope your cousin gets what they want!
  10. Back in college my friend's aunt won the showcase showdown on the Price is Right. She won several prizes but when they figured out the taxes she only ended up with one big prize (I think it was a trip). Have a great time and good luck! I always wanted to spin that big wheel they have.
  11. We've used Garden Grocer several times, but never at the Fort. The food has always arrived early, the resort keeps it in a refrigerated room and then once we arrive we call bell services and they bring it up. While they are pricey I would rather pay a little extra for the convenience and not having to step foot in a grocery store on my vacation. I would recommend them.
  12. That's funny, we ate at Fireworks Factory on our honeymoon in 1990! Unbelievable pictures, Aaron, am enjoying them so much. Back in junior high my friend stayed in one of those Treehouses with her family. We were all so jealous. Thanks for your time in posting all these.
  13. When we bought our VWL points 13 years ago we paid $63 per point, through resale. I just checked their website and their current VWL contracts for sale run between $77-84 per point. So I feel pretty good about our purchase. I can tell you why DVC has been a good choice for our family. We have stayed at most of the DVC resorts, in various size accommodations. These are nicer resorts than we would normally stay (if we were going for a regular resort stay we would be in a moderate). Instead we are in deluxe resorts, easily accommodating our family of five, which most regular hotel rooms do n
  14. The older I get the more I appreciate resort days. The resorts are beautiful and have a lot to offer, glad you could take advantage of SSR.
  15. The foods are similar, but not the same. One trip we went to both restaurants and enjoyed both. I think Boma has a little more variety. Tusker House had a few more mainstream staples.
  16. I can't get enough pictures of W, he's so cute! Trust me, do all the character meals you can for the next 8 years. As soon as W turns 9 they'll charge him as an adult and you won't be able to afford them again (I speak from experience).
  17. The back must be way better on the mine train because it looks like you guys are having a blast! We sat closer to the front and it was very tame, far different from your picture. I LOVE that they noticed Anna having fun and gave you another ride. Those are the things that make a difference with Disney. But I understand the love/hate thing with Disney. With my husband, it's more hate, and yet he always breaks down and goes again (but also at the same time declaring he'll never return).
  18. Thank you for the laugh, the visual on this is just too funny. That was a great post, your build up to the 'incident' was done perfectly.
  19. I wish I had known about this our last trip. Sounds like a fun way to leisurely wander world showcase.
