  1. That last bit is EXCELLENT advice. The crank on our former Coleman pop-up went - while at the Fort - got stuck while it was open! Had to have someone come out and snap the cable then manually bring the roof down. They do not make the parts any more, and the shop had to have them machined. Total to replace the crank shaft assembly was around $800.
  2. This is the problem. They have the "policies", but they're not enforced. Just like quiet hours, number of guests per site, and parking. I had the same issue with one of my children when he was younger. He was terrified of dogs because he had been bitten in the face by one when he was small. I tried very hard to always be in loops that were non-pet, but as everyone else has said, there were almost always dogs. But, they were usually smaller breeds, which didn't bother him as much. He has since out-grown most of his fear, but we too have encountered the other problem you mentioned and I
  3. Where in PA are you? We just moved up here this past summer. Haven't had the pleasure of dragging our camper all the way to the Fort, yet. It's still in FL, but will be up here eventually. Glad to hear we aren't the only crazies to be doing that! I used to always wonder about all of the long term guests, as well. But I eventually learned who all of them are and a bit of their stories from hanging out here. Like you, I can only dream about being there all the time and envy those lucky folks who are. The cart path was only blocked for safety reasons due to inconsiderate golf cart drive
  4. Well, if you want to actually see the beach, I would suggest lunch or afternoon appetizers at one of the ocean front places. You said near future, and the days are still pretty short. Typically dark at dinner time. If you cannot make it to DB by dinner, perhaps you could make a pit stop in Fernandina Beach or St. Augustine, grab a nice meal or have a picnic on one of those beaches, then carry on to your destination for the night? Then you'd still get to see the ocean and stay on track with your itinerary. Of course, that kills the drinks portion of it, but you could always go for cockta
  5. Ewwwwwww!!! You put a nasty used headband that you found on the floor of a ride on your head? Who knows who may have worn it prior, and then it may well have been SAT on numerous times that day by folks with sweaty butts. EWW EWW EWW. But, you bada** rebel behavior refusing to do what the CM's said pre-fireworks redeems you. A bit. Dolts! If they don't want anyone there, then rope it off!
  6. NO NO NO NO NO Hoping an praying this is no longer something Disney is planning to follow through on. This is a depressing thread.
  7. I am so sad to hear about the garland. That was one of my favorite things about MK at Christmas, and I haven't been able to see it in person for many years. I always noticed that first thing. Oh, well. At least I have all of the great photos on here, as well as my own from years past. Toy soldiers are my favorite too! The reindeer (both versions) are creepy to me. Something about 4-legged animals being depicted walking upright is unsettling to me. Be sure and post another daytime photo of the fort tree, if you have one, so I can swipe it. I got a night time shot but no daytime one
  8. Happy New Year! Did you notice in one of your subsequent traffic photos, the "hammerhead" (hilarious, btw) had only jumped a couple of spots ahead of you by breaking the law? I think I saw him a few days later on 95…..or several of his relatives, the morons. You were very wise not to take 2054. Even my kids noticed how many tents, vehicles, golf carts, and people were crammed onto 2056. And they were loud.
  9. Wow - that IS generous! Thank you! I'll try to remember that if the need arises again down the road. Excellent points. It did create quite a bit of extra planning and effort. But, in our case, we had no choice this time. We bought the RV in Florida after we'd already towed our golf cart down on a utility trailer. And, we didn't want to have to bring the RV up here to PA only to have to winterize it. I wouldn't have planned it this way, but it will work out in the end. I would consider doing it again, too, if it were a matter of camping at the Fort for the holidays, leaving it do
  10. Thank you all again for the suggestions…..as always, you are so helpful and this is such a wonderful resource. So nice to know I have a place to go for info and help in a pinch! Prior to starting this thread, I had made several calls and my husband had chosen a place called Stoneybrook West Self Storage. Really close to the fort, decent rate, secure place in a nice area. We thought we had made a good choice when he did a drive by to check it out. Unfortunately, once he towed our camper over to leave it there until spring, after which we were to get on the road to begin our journey back
  11. Thank you! I will check these out. Dave, you are much better at surfing/searching ff than I am....tried to do a search before posting this and came up with nothing!
  12. Can anyone recommend an RV storage facility not too far from the Fort with reasonable rates? Thanks in advance! Cyndee
  13. You're sad to leave, and I am sad that we have missed your display, yet again. Can someone post a link to the video please? Haven't had a lot of opportunities to get on here lately so missed it……..
  14. We used to camp at least once every 4-6 weeks. We haven't been as a family since we sold our TT in May. Since we moved over the summer and my husband and sons went on a major Scout trip to Yellowstone, we didn't get to go over the summer either. The summer before, I am pretty sure I spent more nights in the camper than in my bed at home. My sons and I got a few nights at the Fort renting one of Donnie's campers. Got in my last fix before moving up North. But, it rained a lot and my husband wasn't there. Since we've been in PA, the boys have been on Scout campouts, but our family trips
  15. Those are some phenomenal photos! So glad you are all having such a wonderful time. And I am with everyone else, I never want to leave either.
  16. The open space I was talking about the area where they expanded the 600 loop, by the water. Pre-pool was before I began visiting. I smell a trading pin opportunity…...
  17. benches crafted from logs not faux wood open space next to the MTP reasonable nightly rates trees and foliage native to the area between campsites number of guests/cars/tents per site rule being enforced
  18. Great TR so far! Loved the note. Priceless. I hope everyone has a great time. Even if plans don't fall into place, remember what's important is that you're together and well! Also hoping your head feels better…..ouch. I also noticed the Mickey diaper. So glad that story had a happy ending.
  19. When we had a pop up I kept a couple of those hanging Damp Rid things inside between trips. If we went a long time without using it I would refresh it with a new one. We also lived in FL at the time and those things would fill right up with the moisture. They have a nice fresh scent too which is very welcome when you go camping and open it up for the first time in a while. I have no idea if that was the reason we never got black mildew, but I never had that problem. We always dried the tent ends really well before folding it up, or if it was raining or we had an early am departure and th
  20. Great photos! I especially like the one of her outside the ladies' room in Rainforest Cafe!
  21. x3 on the Donnie/MakeCampingEasy comments…..we rented from him last summer after we sold our TT and he took great care of us!
  22. If it rains enough, all of the sites in 1900 back up to water…..hahaha. We stayed in a site in the 1300 loop that backed up to the canal that is next to the swimming' hole, etc. At first I thought it was going to be a nuisance due to the noise from the pool and the bugs from the canal. It turned out to be one of the best sites we'd ever had. We were on one that was on a curve so there was no one to the one side of use that we "faced" - the door side of the camper. We sat in chairs by the water and it was really lovely. We don't fish but could have easily right from our site. The pool
  23. Oh my goodness. You weren't kidding! That is hilarious! You're the devil, all right…….hehehe That was a big leap for your Catholic parents to allow you to dress as the devil. My brother wore that very Casper mask in the Internet photo. And all of the others look very familiar. Planet of the Apes cracks me up.
  24. Dang. you beat me to it! That's what I get for reading, then posting. Gotta get quicker on my feet and post, then go back and read.
  25. I thought he looked like the chimney sweep from Mary Poppins? But yours is funnier.
