The newer model has an added thermal sensor that will shut things down if the plugs get too hot. Other than that there is not difference.
They do have the newer model but it is more expensive. For me the thermal sensor was not worth the price difference to me. Mine was supposed to be delivered today but UPS didn't show up due to the weather.

I understand where you and Gwen are coming from.  If INC and I could spend several weeks at the Fort without kids and just pop into parks on a whim, it would probably hold more appeal.  I've always said, WDW is no place to take a child.  

2 16 oz Porterhouses cooked to perfection over a wood fire, 2 Baked potatoes bigger than your fist with butter, sour cream cheddar cheese and bacon crumbles,  all you can eat salad and Texas toast.    Your choice of beverage (including adult)  No ADR required, guaranteed no wait table service all for about $20 and I don't have to leave my site.

And we have AP! That's right... just put us up at the Fort, and you can borrow my short kid all day! I can get him to slouch for the 44 inch rides and cry at the suggestion of the 40 inch rides. As an added bonus, you can even hike him up on your shoulders to block you enemy's view of parades and shows!

There are a LOT of campgrounds relatively close to Dollywood, but nothing like the Fort to Disney. I would venture a guess that 90% of the campgrounds have a trolly that either comes through the campground or has a stop within walking distance from the campground. The trollys will take you all over the Pigeon Forge\Gatlinburg are and there are some that are running routes directly to Dollywood. Ok that's it, we are not going to plan a trip next year around September time frame. This is the second year we have missed this and I'm going to do what I can to make it next year. I'm thinking a nice long September weekend at DC will be good before our Halloween trip to The Fort next year.
