  1. Yes we're glad we were there this year when it was brand new. It's funny how we all talk about how quick Disney is to figure out a way to make things more expensive and monetize everything they do. One of the things we talked about was how Disney is trying to find all these long term events. At this point F&W is now starting August 31 and running till mid November. Then they will roll into Christmas. The minute the Marathon is over it will be Art Festival time mid-January right up to the Flower and Garden show which rolls to the end of May. All Disney needs to do is fin
  2. We really enjoyed the Art Festival - we were able to catch 4 weekends of it before we headed home and really liked the slower pace compared to both Food and Wine and the Flower Festival. As noted by several folks there was much less drinking then F&W gets and that made just stolling and looking a lot more pleasurable. You didn't have to worry about some drunk dumping their 10th beer on you. The food was good, expensive, but by and large well prepared and the presentations were a lot of fun to watch. Plus, unlike F&W where the focus is on the wines more then food, the food
  3. Amazing yes but at an average weight of maybe 175-200 lbs that's 1,050,000 to 1,200,000 pounds just waiting to drop when something goes wrong? Making your next comment even more appropriate So I guess Let it Go would be the most appropriate song??? Sorry - it's a grey day here so I have a corresponding sense of humour!
  4. We saw a cat stretched out next to the patio at Blaze Pizza this afternoon when we were there. It looked quite at home.
  5. Me too, but I asked the other day and they said as long as I had the reservation number and ID I didn't need to bring the printout. Tthat woud be problematic since we don't travel with a printer
  6. Yes, yes, yes. Again yes, yes yes - and this frog hopped out!!! They've done at least 1,000 things except use your title - which is brilliant by the way - The Year of a Million Schemes
  7. Yes we were there through DVC and they were nasty about taking the phones. I saw those folks with the gift bags and wondered who they were - "social media moms" - I don't know the term? Help? Don't know who the ones with the reserved were either. What really made us think the whole business about the phones was silly was because all those balconys behind us in the Poly had a wonderful view of the screen and anyone could have been sitting there in the dark with a camera and no security would have noticed them. THe security was too busy watching all of us. By the
  8. This bothered me more then I can say. I've never been at an event before where we had to do this. As you said, usually it's the honour system. In our case we put three of ours in one bag so we thought we'd at least be sure of getting them all back together but it was bizzare - no one asked for any identification when you picked up your phone, there was no kind of security around the tables. And there were a lot of expensive phones lying there. Very unprofessional of Disney but sadly what we're coming to expect more and more.
  9. Shush!!! - Don't give them any ideas - if they think it would add to the bottom line the will do it!!!
  10. Ok - dropped into this on Monday to see what it was like and what it was all about. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give it maybe a 2. The space is very crowded and based on the pictures above I'd say they added more seats then can be seen in the pictures. There was certainly no opportunity to get to the computers, they were all being "held" by a number of kids who were using them to check their email. The place could also use a really good cleaning. The seats were stained with spilled drinks and the carpet needed a good shampooing. The three people who were there had no time to talk to anyone
  11. We did four weeks in Hawaii last year (November 2015) - we use our DVC points and put them into RCI to cover our accomodation. We were able to spend a week at Aulani to see Oahu, a week on Hawaii, a week on Kauai and finally a week on Maui. Our two favourites were Hawaii and Kauai. We found Oahu very, very, very commercialized and just like anywhere else you might got to. Lots of things designed to seperate the tourist from their dollar! The island of Hawaii was amazing. Just the sight of the black lava everywhere is stunning. And the trip up to the volcano is not to be mi
  12. Well this year we're going to try and dodge Atlanta when we head to Florida. We're planning on taking the I-65 out of Nashville to Montgomery and then pick up the 231 until the I-10. We'll then just take that over to the I-75. Can anyone along the way just let me know the current condition of those roads. Were they affected by any of the flooding from Matthew or is everything ok? Are there any places that could give us trouble?
  13. Santa’s Chalet will also utilize the pager waiting system currently being used for the temporary Princess meet and greet at the World of Disney store: Source:http://wdwnt.com/blog/2016/10/disney-springs-host-festival-holiday-trees-among-new-line-2016-holiday-season/ So, who needs a night parade at the MK, or Osborne Lights, or Rivers of Light? Disney Springs is where it's at! And no park admission. And all of those great stores to give your money to. It's a win/win for Disney. Like always. TCD
  14. I said that having no parade was pathetic - this is even more so.

    Castaway Cay

Maybe there's a concrete warehouse somewhere on the island that they move everything into?
  16. but grandma and grandpa almost always get asked to "contribute"
  17. Holy **** - I hope none of my grandkids decides this is a great idea!
  18. I agree with you that was a beutiful parade - we used to just marvel at the way they manipulated everything. And so sad to hear the Electric Light Parade is gone - that's just plain pathetic!!!! I guess I really am getting old those really were the good old days -
  19. Thanks TCD - appreciate your sleuthing. 1511 is our favourite site at WDW and the last picture we have from the exact spot you took this picture is of an 8 point buck on the far side of the canal. Yes please, we would prefer that the entire 1500 loop remain a closely guarded secret!!
  20. Looks like a great party - and I love the Headless Horseman shot - so cool!
  21. Have never used bike locks, but they aren't expensive bikes. As well they have a rather different look with the lights on them. Have however had other things stolen, including swim suits.
  22. Not to be glib but it could just be because they're Disney and they can! Or the cynical side of me says they may have got a great deal on fence posts and want to use them up. Has anyone found out yet if they've put the fence behind 1500?
  23. Well - doesn't this just suck lemons!!! Another way for them to haul in more money. I agree Carol, and that's another reason to find other things to do with my Disney time and dollars. DVC points can go to exchanges elsewhere and my poor depressed Canadian $$ can be spent elsewhere.
  24. This thread is making me sad. I said a few years ago that I was tired of being nickled and dimed to death and watching children race golf carts and watching Fort staff ignore every rule in their books and I remember writing a long post bemoaning all the changes we had seen that winter that were so depressing. At the time I said we might not be back. Well we went back. Twice. We tried, we really did but I think that we've hit the last wall. Between all of the changes; the ones we've seen over the past four to five years and that are all documented so well in all the threads;
