Oops, double post.   I will say that Luke Bryan looks like Wil Wheaton.   Extra geek points if you know who Wil Wheaton is.

BTW, the TCD gang skipped the new Frozen fireworks tonight so I could stay back and report from the Fort. Stay tuned. TCD

I can do that. TCD

Wow!

I take one lousy long holiday off and out of touch, and look what I missed!

it may take me a month to catch up with all this fun!  :banghead:

Yep, around here if you snooze you could lose which is better than that "other board" where it makes you snooze. :rofl3:

  • 3 weeks later...

Some additional tidbits of info I've run across on the Luckow family's WDW festivities a few weeks ago...

  • the group consisted of 33 family members + 11 friends
  • the total cost of the week's events was $8 million
  • they do a big event like this at WDW about every 5 years
  • this year's theme was "camping" - hence the bus wrap and party at the Fort
  • the pickups on the beach were part of the theme and represented a tailgate party with food served from the truck beds
  • the president of WDW and other company higher-ups crashed the party at the Fort
  • they do smaller events at WDW several times throughout the year
  • they took over a good chunk of the concierge level at the Grand Floridian
  • there was another private performance by a well-known artist during the week, but I haven't been able to track down a name
  • the fireworks display in Bay Lake included 5000 shells - by comparison, Illuminations uses approx. 1000

I had to call in some favors, but I managed to locate video of the other private concert put on for the Luckows that week.

So, 8 million dollars to entertain 44 people for a week?

That's $181K+ per person.

That is obscene.

OK now I am really sorry to have been away for so long.  Am half way through this thread aka page 16, but had to stop to say WOW!

I wonder how else they spend money and what charities they help along the way.  Maybe the rest of the story will tell me ;)  lol

We live close enough to WDW to hear the fireworks and this explains the looooooong  one after all the parks had finished theirs.  I had a really lame 4th watching PBS from D.C.  but did score an ice cream cone at Twistees.

Sure wish I had been here, I'd have tried to crash the Fort, but it's hard to get in there on the 4th.  Back to reading as soon as I fix dinner for the DH.

I think it's funny that their theme was camping, yet they stayed GF concierge... only had to mingle with actual campers for one evening..  :/  Although if they had rented cabins or deluxe MHs would we have been complaining about site unavailability, etc.?

FINISHED IT!! :)

So maybe I'm mistaken and it wasn't on the 4th of July but the 5th.  But still remember hearing loud, loooooong and late fireworks that weekend.

Thanks for all the videos and photos and reports live from the scene.

TCD good for you telling the rent-a-cop "NO" !  Loved that :rofl3:

To Mo, Jason and all the rest of you posters  big thanks.  You made me laugh out loud!!!!

I'm a fireworks junky also, even just hearing them is a treat.

It was on the 5th and considering where you live, not only should you have heard them, you should have felt them.
