  1. You know, I have "heard" that other boards are better without certain people. (posted recently elsewhere) Frankly, I don't know of anyone that would be better elsewhere but here. This is not the place where you just post a question and then "walk" away, never to return. It "sucks" you in, because family does that. Family takes care of you (sometimes whether they like you or not :rofl2: ) and will complain, and spit and moan for a while too. BUT THEY DO IT. Us Fiends, we do the helping willingly and without forethought. When I am at the Fort, I consider myself ON CALL. That means I am

  2. Something else to consider for those that might make the argument "well I just want information, not all the banter" There are LOADS of places on the web to get "just the facts ma'am." Anyone ever heard of Google? Of course these days many of the topics you Google specific to the Fort will point you directly to FF.net! Hmm... I wonder why that is? After all, Google doesn't tend to rank you highly for just "banter." I know for me, I come to a message board not just because I'm too lazy to find the answer for myself or I don't know where to look, but because I don't just want facts posted o

  3. When I go looping, I come across several Fort Fiends.net signs and if I see someone outside I'll stop and introduce myself. OK, I've knocked on a few doors too....lol. It's amazing that when I do they perk up and are more welcoming than any group I have ever seen. It's kind of like long lost friends you haven't seen in a long time, even though you may never have met, other than electronically. You can't go wrong with this group. So if you haven't jumped in yet, please do so and discover the best Walt Disney Lovin', Fort Wilderness Lovin' and camping anywhere Lovin' Fiends you could ever

  5. Wednesday, December 5th OK, now it's time to show something nobody else on Fort Fiends has reported on. Today, I decided to go see Wreck It Ralph! I also decided to try the Dine In Theater I went to an early afternoon show. So here we go! The seating Large comfy seats with plenty of room. When I bought my tickets there was a chance to reserve actual seats. This movie was in 3D, so the glasses were sitting at your place. Also, there are buttons to call the servers. One thing I was a bit concerned about and never could find information, was the show time listed was it "show time" or arrival

  6. Okay, here's the deal. IOS 6 no longer supports YouTube, so you have to go to the App Store and download the mobile version. Dave's link goes directly thru the mobile app in this case, and it comes up that the author has not authorized mobile use. Now being the self taught computer geek I am, it takes me a while, so I bypassed this by going into YouTube thru safari, then searching for Gwen's videos and all is good. So if anyone else is having the same issue I did, give this a try and you can enjoy Gwen's excellent and professionally done videos. It was well worth the trouble.

  7. I'll just add that for those of you that might be shy about meeting up with the Fiends in person, please don't be! I know it's one thing to "meet" people online vs in person, but this really is the most welcoming group of people. We showed up at Halloween a year ago, having only met a couple of people the year before, and dove head first into the middle of a whopper of a GG. Fiends greet you like you're their long lost friend and it never felt weird to be hugged by a perfect stranger... or hugging the ones that say they're not huggers. Since then we've been fortunate enough to spend time

  8. I am putting this on the public forum, because maybe some of the lurkers out there will realize how great Fiends are and come out of hiding and meet some of us. As you all know Jason is there for a few days, Carol loaned him her tenting equipment, I had agreed to go up tomorrow and pick it up from him, because I am going to see Carol on WWW. Well Rich and I still haven't gotten over The Crud from New Years yet. So I called on another Fiend to help me out bord1niowa....Curt, I asked him to do a really big favor for me (I also thought he was still at the Fort, but he had left already). I explain

  9. You don't have to be crazy to do the parks on Christmas you just have to get up early and be the first ones to the park. At least I don't think you have to be crazy. Well, maybe I am crazy....

  10. Right time to use them when you've got an ECV that is too heavy to lift in and out of the truck 4-6 times a day. And ANY time I'm going to Epcot cause they serve the Orange Slushies and Peach Snap! year round :)

  14. Ok, time to get back on track. Let's see, it's Christmas Eve, and we've seen Donald and Santa himself at the Trails End porch, had free cookies and cider, and now we're fixing to go find some dinner. We decided to hop the bus to the Lodge and hit up Roaring Forks, one of the DaveInTN gang's favorite counter restaurants. I really like the Lodge, especially at Christmas time. They even decorate the walkway to the bus stop nicely. We made our way directly to RF to eat, figuring there would be time to enjoy the lobby after dinner. INC had her usual...the grilled chicken salad with apples, waln

  18. Lou...

    Let's go Lou-ping

As the Fort is so close to all of the MK resorts and most of you are familiar with them, we'll move on and do some backstage lou-ping. We're driving past the Contemporary on the right and Space mountain on the left. Further down on the right is the Pluto Lot. A CM parking lot. This lot is for non-costumed CMs. Buses pick up CMs here and bring them to the Utilidor main entrance. Next on the right is a WDW Transportation Maintenance facility. The lower level services the MK railroad and the top level with the beams running into it services the Monorails. The Monorails have been breaking down

  23. One of the troopers that works for me had his family at WDW last week. Just a quick 3 day stay. Without going into details, he wanted to take his beautiful 2 year old daughter due to severe health problems. He knows he will probably not get another chance with her. I didn't tell any fiends he was coming. But I did tell him that if they had any problems or needed any help, he needed to call me immediately, because I have a lot of friends in the area. I knew without asking that if I asked for some assistance for a friend, the fiends would come through. He told when he got back that it pu

  24. That's great, Lorna. I could give several examples to add to this list that would demonstrate the community that has developed here. And in case any lurkers or newbies think this is a "closed group" that is tight knit and wouldn't open their arms to them...I can tell you there are Fiends created every day, some that dive right in and sit around at grand gatherings laughing it up seated next to someone who's been around forever. There are a handful of Fiends that were at those early gatherings at the Fort, but most of us were not and are still members of the community, which is more like a f

  25. As promised: Easy Crockpot Chicken & Dumplings 3-4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts 2 TBS butter 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of celery soup 3 & 1/2 cups chicken broth 1 Onion, diced 1 Cup celery, diced 1 Cup carrots, sliced 2 chicken bouillon cubes 1 (10 oz) can refrigerated biscuits *When camping, I buy peeled baby carrots and pre-packaged cut up celery, for ease. You won't use all of either, but then you have some carrots and celery to snack on, later. Directions: Excluding biscuits, put all ingredients in cooker. Cover & cook on low 6-8 hours.

  26. Excuse me while I wipe away the tear. Who am I kidding, what tear? You guys are all losers and I can't stand the bunch of you, especially that guy Bob. And no, I'm not going to sing Kumbaya with all of you. Fort Fiends, bah, humbug. Remember when I asked you for your credit card number so I could enter you in a Fort give away, surprise, I lied.
