  1. I used to do phone work, and I had seen worse pools than that at some of the customers homes. I was at one and the water was so black it looked like tar.
  2. Years ago we camped in the Everglades in a van that we converted into a camper. We had a roof vent with a screen in it. The mosquitoes were able to get in thruthe gap between the screen and the crank that opened the vent. It was maybe an 1/8th of an inch gap. They can be resourceful.
  3. And the Tampa tv stations are having lead stories about bacteria in swimming pools. So no swimming anywhere.
  4. They do something.... Make you $30 poorer, and have every kid around grabbing your arm to see it and every parent asking where you got it because Tiffany is crying her eyes out because she needs one...
  5. If you have your Fort parking pass and magic bands it shouldn't be any problem. We went to visit relatives at Saratoga and they scanned my band said you're a Fort guest, and welcome home. Just tell them you want to tour the resort and have something to eat, plus it's a DVC. They are looking for potential buyers so they won't turn you away.
  6. You could invest in good insulated bottles, or freeze juice boxes or water bottles. In a soft side cooler they will defrost and still be cold in the afternoon. I have a Thermos stainless steel insulated bottle. I can put ice water in it, and it's still cold at night. Or you could go with camel backs or their competition. I have one that I put a replacement liner in that I got at Wal mart. The liner itself can be frozen to help keep drinks cool.
  7. Not sure I can afford really lean ground beef. Might have to put this idea on the back burner. You could try ground chicken or turkey, they are usually lean and less expensive than the lower fat ground beef.
  8. My relatives were at the MK last month. They saw a family pull out a bag af sandwiches made on hot dog rolls. They never stopped walking while they pulled the sandwiches out and passed them around. She was quite impressed. We used to bring tortilla shells and cut up veggies meat and cheese then make wraps at the park. Not real quick, but it gave you a needed break. I like the cheese and sausage idea. Hard boiled eggs are good.
  9. Our grandkids have done cookie decorating, rubbings, the campfire, and used the craft room at AKL without any issues. They have also used the playground. One time they both got picked as the Ambassadors of the Day. And thats just some of the kid activities.
  10. AKL is well worth the trip, especially if you have kids. Lots of activites for them. Also, they have a campfire nightly and they provide everything for free including wipes when you are done. If you do the Epcot resorts I think, someone mentioned that you can take the HS bus. There is a short path along the boat canal from the park entrance over to the side of the Grand Floridian. Hardly anyone uses it, it's a really nice place to take a leisurely stroll.
  11. You're right. Originally we were leaving on the 5th but added a day so we could relax after the 4th. Plus we got the free concert and super fireworks!
  12. Scored all 6 of them last night. Well really a co-workers wife picked them up for me since she goes to Publix just about every day. I had tried 3 others and they were out.
  13. Pontoon boat, or is everyone old enough for the back woods Segway tour? I think that's up in the same price range. Or you could take the private carriage ride at night, or a whole lot of nightly wagon rides.
  14. First 2 trips we anchored it to trees with ropes. Took a few adjustments to get it to drain right. Last 2 trips we used a bigger one and I made poles for it. The main part is a rectangle then there are 2 wings angled down. First time it worked better than the second, but i didnt play with it as much the second time. It pooled water a couple of times, but I just gave it a push and it ran off, and we had quite a bit of rain that week.
  15. It was good to meet you and get one of the cherished RR spikes. I havent started on our report yet or even opened up the pop up and emptied it. Luckily it was a dry morning on the 5th when we packed up. We had a busy first week back, then ended up back in Orlando (Not Disney) for a week and a 1/2 to take care of some family business, so the report has been on the back burner. Keep it coming...
  16. Looks like you went with what I was going to suggest, a Coleman instant tent. We were pop up campers when the kids were younger. Eventually sold it since we didnt use it because of work/kids schedules. Started back in camping at the Fort Cabins (yeah I know we were really roughing it). My granddaughter wanted to do real camping (easy for a 8 year old to say) so last year we got a used 10 person 14x10 Coleman instant on Craigslist for $75. What a breeze to put up and take down. We do take tarps to put over it. Coleman made a couple of different models using similar names, and some sa
  17. Have you checked Pinterest? My wife saw quite a few pop up renovations on there, so I'm sure there are some for travel trailers also. Some are just pictures and some will lead you to step by step instructions/hints/suggestions. Another place to check is Instructables.
  18. Don't see why it wouldn't work. Would there be any clearance issues with the thicker cushions? You might want to use some sort of glue to keep the topper from drifting/sliding around on the current foam. We have a mattress topper on our bed at home and after a while we have to yank it back into position.
  19. We had a van we camped in years ago. We camped down at the Everglades and had Mosquitos inside. They came in thru the ceiling vent after us. They figured out how to come in thru the gap between the screen and the crank, and it was a very small gap.
  20. Checked the Publix here at avalon park. Bags came in Monday, and were gone on Tuesday. I'm sure eBay and the local flea markets will be filled with them.
  21. CAPE CHARLES, Va. — A fierce storm toppled trees and flipped campers Thursday at a Virginia campground Thursday, killing at least two people and injuring at least 20, officials said. The injured were being taken to hospitals, a spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police, Corinne Geller, said. Ms. Geller also confirmed the deaths. The storm slammed into the Cherrystone Family Camping & R.V. Resort, near Cheriton, which sits on 300 acres on Chesapeake Bay in rural Northampton County. “It came in real quick,” a volunteer firefighter, Brittney Eder, said in a telephone interview. “The sky tu
